Glant··on A room-temperature superconductor? New developments
At the bottom of the video is a progress bar, which presumably means they screen recorded a clip instead of uploading the original. I think that's what the parent comment is referring to.
Glant··on Drone cops are coming for small-town America
Imo it's an issue either way. I'm absolutely with you that AI shouldn't have guns, but I don't think police should have any remotely activated guns.
Glant··on Drone cops are coming for small-town America
San Francisco almost had exactly that. The policy was reversed after about a week of outrage. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/11/30/san-francis...
Glant··on UK to crack down on plant-based food and drink labels
Is breast milk considered dairy? I've never met a vegan who has issues with breastfeeding
Glant··on UK to crack down on plant-based food and drink labels
Why would you need to consult a doctor about not giving your kid dairy?
Glant··on Why I'm done with Mouser Electronics
Alternatively, "Our customer constantly has issues with our service, let's ignore it until they are no longer a customer"
Glant··on GPT-4 Prediction: It won’t be useful
I don't know much about AI, but does it know that it doesn't know something? Like would it be able to tell that it's unsure or even wrong?
Glant··on Show HN: This Hacker News Does Not Exist
They weren't kidding about crypto being unstable...
Glant··on Secret 9/11 memo reveals Bush rewriting the history of the 9/11 attacks
Time to put my conspiracy hat on.

A lot of people have criticized the government for not knowing the attack was coming and not being prepared for something like it. Now that G.W. Bush is sort of irrelevant, could this be a falsified document by one of the 3 letter agencies to make them look better while putting the blame on Bush?

Glant··on Ask HN: Scriptable iPhone Redialer Interface? (For reaching state govt.)
Might be fun to start calling your governor's office, tell them you haven't been able to connect to anyone in the right department. At worst they at least become aware of an understaffing issue somewhere in their government, at best they can actually connect you to someone who can help.
Glant··on Spotify Royalty Calculator
One other thing Tidal offers is if you buy their highest tier plan $20/mo) they give $2 a month to your most listened to artist. Wish it was more given that the plan is twice the cost of the next plan, but the plan does include a bunch of other stuff.
Glant··on Pocket Casts goes open source
Is it based off of a database? Even fairly small YouTube channels seem to work with sponsor block as soon as the videos are uploaded. I always assumed YouTube requires creators to mark which sections are sponsored, and sponsor block has some way of looking that up.
Glant··on An open letter to the Tesla fan who wants to run over a kid
You don't even need to match the radar signature of humans, it shouldn't be driving through any object of that size in the road.
Glant··on BART’s excursion fare: Agency earns millions from passengers not riding trains
Looks like this comment from another chain is your answer https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32442280
Glant··on Ask HN: I always beat the technical interview but never get the job. Why?
I guess it depends on the company, but as long as you aren't mischievously twirling it while cackling you should be good.
Glant··on UK Online Safety Bill put on hold
> protect adults from legal - but harmful - content

Seems reasonable and not ripe for abuse

Glant··on Introducing Collectible Avatars
> Reddit has always been a model for what decentralization could look like online

Funny

Glant··on Orange juice took over the breakfast table
Military coup.
Glant··on I built a dead simple webhosting service
Not a criticism, just a curiosity; why abbreviate "month" as "mon" on the pricing page?
Glant··on FCC Closes Robocall Loophole
(Not OP) I get about one spam text a day and it's always some vaguely sexual message with a shortened link in it.
Glant··on Ask HN: Why do phones not notify you of malware?
Ah yes, the "put your head in sand" approach to problem solving.
Glant··on Ask Ethan: Will physics ever see another Einstein or Newton?
I'm certainly no physicist, I don't know much on the subject, but does Stephen Hawking not count? As a layman I'd group him with Einstein and Newton as the greatest scientists I know of.
Glant··on Napoleon's
Only 1 inch after some shrinkage. Is this why they called Napoleon little?
Glant··on Journalist shares experience with Tesla's malpractices
Well this[0] is certainly interesting to see just after reading OPs thread.

Glant··on After roasting Apple about headphone jacks, Google dumps it from Pixel 6A
Not sure about the 6a, but the regular pixel 6 arguably only has the bigger battery and even then I still can't get 2 days of use between charging. No headphone jack, no SD card, no IR remote, heart beat sensing is done via camera instead of its own sensor. Maybe the tensor chip takes a lot of space.

The rest of your argument seems sound enough.

Glant··on Ask HN: From a business perspective, how does an “arms deal” play out?
Such an incredible opening sequence.
Glant··on Tusk Browser aims to combat censorship of conservatives

Does TUSK collect or sell personal user data?
No. We don’t get to see the sites you visit, what you type in the browser, or your downloads. This type of data is either stored locally on your device, or encrypted. Some browsers monitor users, create profiles, and sell your data for profit. Not us, not ever! Only the sites you visit can see you. We use SSL or HTTPS, when available, to protect your browser from being seen by others including your IP provider.
The privacy policy claims otherwise.
Glant··on Show HN: Resume Editor
Verification of resumes. After reading the blog post I'm still not entirely sure why this is something anyone would want.

Glant··on Internet Archive services are temporarily offline

Glant··on Ask HN: Is there a simple way to continuously backup your Google account?
You can use Google Takeout to receive a zip in an email of all your data, including drive, email, and seemingly everything else. You can even schedule it to send a new backup once every 2 months for a year, then just remember to renew the schedule every year. I have my Gmail mirror to a local mail server which sort of becomes my "backup".
