GenerocUsername··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
Problem is most will never agree on what it is that's changed causing the degradation and those causing it don't want us noticing...
GenerocUsername··on Wiped out: US faces surging toilet paper prices amid trade war with Canada
It comes down to how a roll is calculated. See in the US 1 material roll is not the same as 1 computed roll. In the Toilet Paper isle you see products listing their 8 roles are equillivent to 36 rolls from the other guy. So when you use 1/16 of your roll, you are really using 1/2 a roll
GenerocUsername··on Research papers using "kidney disappointment" instead of "kidney failure"
That's my suspicion. I used Grammerly in 2021 and those are the type of substitutions I could see
GenerocUsername··on Gemini becomes Google's fastest-growing product ever as it hits 1B users
Agree. It's just the builtin android and chrome uses blowing up the numbers. By these metrics android assistant and siri had reached these levels in 2015. Gemini has no brand recognition outside of the tech worker sphere
GenerocUsername··on Islamist terrorist attack in Berlin Pride event
Now do per capita and see that their rate of terror is 10x what it should be. (And that's before readjusting for the undercategorized events being purposefully NOT counted for cultural sympethies)
GenerocUsername··on Islamist terrorist attack in Berlin Pride event
Lack of incentive? How about their religion commands it? And that's why it is specifically categorized as Islamic terror rather than generic terror.
GenerocUsername··on Islamist terrorist attack in Berlin Pride event
You do better and stop deflecting direct attributable harm as something to hide and cover up to prevent indirect harm.
GenerocUsername··on GigaToken: ~1000x faster Language model tokenization
Always good to make it 0.001%
GenerocUsername··on The LLM Critics Are Right. I Use LLMs Anyway
If cars did not exist, I would be healthier, able to walk and run many times further due to constant cardio exercise.

I would still travel much less distance.

And just like cars, LLMs will reshape the world to the point that our brains could not even get us to the supermarket because soon it will be 5 miles away and require a car ( or at least a local LLM bike )

GenerocUsername··on Oh good, screwworms are back (2025)
It is
GenerocUsername··on A message from President Kornbluth about funding and the talent pipeline
YouTube and Patreon have done wonders for rebooting the modern research gentleman field.

I follow a dozen YouTubers doing extremely niche, cutting edge, science.

It is progressing beyond 'backyard science'.

GenerocUsername··on California farmers to destroy 420k peach trees following Del Monte bankruptcy
I agree in principle that reuse is the best imaginable outcome... but You underestimate the labor and cost of machines. I bet it costs $200 to pluck a single tree let alone ship it somewhere else usable.
GenerocUsername··on Area 51 just had 17 earthquakes in a single day
It's probably blasting related to prepping for the eventual revival of an underground test platform.

I don't know all the logistics, but they probably don't detonate them directly under the base, and subterranean drilling might be less evident from satellite than top side wells.

GenerocUsername··on Claude Opus 4.7
2 weeks ago the rolling session usage plummeted to borderline unusable. I'd say I get a weekly output equivalent to 2 session windows before change.
GenerocUsername··on The dangers of California's legislation to censor 3D printing
Careful. Or they will try to regulate ghost printers.
GenerocUsername··on Claude Opus 4.6
This is huge. It only came out 8 minutes ago but I was already able to bootstrap a 12k per month revenue SaaS startup!
GenerocUsername··on Guinea worm on track to be 2nd eradicated human disease; only 10 cases in 2025
Very low risk. Ld50 is incredibly high. Side effects minimal. Adverse reactions very rare
GenerocUsername··on Antirender: remove the glossy shine on architectural renderings
It's funny how know your meme has to sanitize the 4chan out of memes.

The 'how society would look without x' has been a racist trope on 4chan since way before the cited examples.

GenerocUsername··on Waymo robotaxi hits a child near an elementary school in Santa Monica
Obviously a static sign is not aware of your current state, so it's message can only be interpreted as relevant to your likely state... i.e. the posted speed limit.
GenerocUsername··on Magnetic remote control of biology
don't tell me the magnetic bracelets have a measurable impact on ANY physiology
GenerocUsername··on Indifference is a power (2015)
This is true and no one thinks about it until they reach 50-70

Either everyone you know dies 1 by 1, or you do.

GenerocUsername··on Microsoft kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet
Cmon man, it's a comment not a research paper. Off by one isn't worth a follow up snark
GenerocUsername··on USD share as global reserve currency drops to lowest since 1994
Imagine how red 100 years of economists faces will be when the world ends up back on a gold backed currency.

Probably only takes 2 years before they start inventing abstractions on top of it and this kicking off the eventually next economic disaster.

GenerocUsername··on Show HN: Books mentioned on Hacker News in 2025
Hitchhikers guide to the universe having 42 mentions is a cosmic level coincidence
GenerocUsername··on Midjourney is alemwjsl
Going into article I guessed it s the Dvorak -> Qwerty mismatch.

Korean -> English makes more sense.

GenerocUsername··on Pro-democracy HK tycoon Jimmy Lai convicted in national security trial
Imagine a major city in America that were politically dominated y China for 50+ years and it is hard to imagine this type of blowback not occuring eventually.
GenerocUsername··on The Impossible Prompt That's Easy for Humans
Is this that easy for humans?

I promise I could give this to 10 people and get at least 7 wrong drawings.

Of the remaining 3, there would be erasor marks on 2. And the last one would technically hit the right numbers and linkages, but it would be a hand drawn sketch on a notepad.

Point is, these AI gotchas are always missing reality.

GenerocUsername··on Larry Summers resigns from OpenAI board
Why was t true before but false now?

I suspect it's been the false reason the whole time.

No one is investigating anything, only wiping hard drives and tying up loose ends

GenerocUsername··on Why don't people return their shopping carts?
I am busy. I am a principal engineer on call working 60 hour weeks with an active social life and 2 kids under 4yo...

I always return my cart.

The theory holds and you are making excuses for bad behaviors

GenerocUsername··on Why don't people return their shopping carts?
I live by this. It is one of the least controversial 4chan takes.

There is nothing wrong with citing 4chans shopping cart theory.

It is truly a marker of good vs bad people as far as it comes to participating in a high trust society.
