GenerocUsername··on Settling the File Structure Debate
Blog has a unique voice, but also the clear outline structure of a ChatGPT response.
GenerocUsername··on Google Play sees 47% decline in apps since start of last year
You'd think a well running A/B system would not be seeing 47% declines in a yoy basis
GenerocUsername··on Reports of the death of California High-Speed Rail have been greatly exaggerated
When a wikipedia page has a whole section dedicated to how massive of a issue construction was then it's result may still be good even if the project was a big failure
GenerocUsername··on Reports of the death of California High-Speed Rail have been greatly exaggerated
Even if it succeeds on its current trajectory, it will be studied for 100 years as a massive failure.
GenerocUsername··on First hormone-free male birth control pill enters human trials
Traditions have nothing to do with it. In America we have liberty and your worldview is not compatible with our constitution. Wars have and will continue to be faught to preserve my version
GenerocUsername··on First hormone-free male birth control pill enters human trials
I for one reject your social contract and despise the self-righteousness of people who think a social contract overrides personal liberty.

You want others to partake in your social contract, but you would probably be appalled if that contract demanded people not be overweight (affects others wherever healthcare is in limited supply), or maybe the contract demands people not be gay (lowers birth rates and therefore societies GDP… also increases disease transmission). Social contracts come and go with time and yours is as wrong tomorrow as my proposed one is today

GenerocUsername··on Trump exempts phones, computers, chips from ‘reciprocal’ tariffs
These companies could choose to invest in the US instead and not have to worry about any of this.

Tariffs are only usable as extortion if the companies have outsourced the manufacturing that gutted our middle-class.

Externalizing variables comes with risk. This risk should be factored into planning in the future. Just because a politician in the 90s promised cheap labor through globalization, a president 30 years later can flip the script

GenerocUsername··on Banned Books: Analysis of Censorship on Amazon.com (2024)
The next iteration of The Anarchist Cookbook going to include a trans protagonist so it becomes unbannable
GenerocUsername··on X’s director of engineering, Haofei Wang, has left the company
A lot of big tech CEOs are promising full driving this year, they just don't have the cajones to say it. Elon is just saying the quiet part out loud
GenerocUsername··on Timeframe of 8-hour restricted eating irrelevant to weight loss
Yes. It is important that every american eat grain-heavy meals every 4 hours. Same regimen as pigs I bet.
GenerocUsername··on US added to international watchlist for rapid decline in civic freedoms
And who defines that process? Oh right, the government.
GenerocUsername··on Reasons veterans are especially hard-hit by federal cuts
Ah, because the VA has been widely regarded as providing great care up to this point. Surely cutting out the bloated and inefficient administrative class will lead to short term reductions, but it also provides the vacuum for better processes to grow back into.
GenerocUsername··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Despite all the rage in these comments, the base of the right largely views this as best possible outcome.
GenerocUsername··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Thank you. Agree. This post only makes me like HN less.
GenerocUsername··on Dogs may have domesticated themselves because they liked snacks, model suggests
You must deep down actually hate yourself or all of humanity to feel such remorse for the impact we have had on nature/dogs. Doesn't sound healthy
GenerocUsername··on Fabric and craft retailer Joann to go out of business, close all of its stores
I want this to make sense... But that doesn't make sense.

Wouldn't the chinese dropshippers be hit with Tariffs

GenerocUsername··on Andrej Karpathy: "I was given early access to Grok 3 earlier today"
Is this true or are you just speculating based on nothing
GenerocUsername··on BleachBit is a free and open-source disk space cleaner
Still a scandal. Gov officials purposefully deleting data AFTER a subpoena is criminal.

And given this is Hillary Clinton we are talking about, the lack of follow through is a major reason we even have the current right wing leadership... It's in many ways direct blow back to the abuses swept under the rug for so many years

GenerocUsername··on Opposing arrows of time can theoretically emerge from certain quantum systems
Doubtful, but also perhaps a matter of perspective.

Time does not exist so we experience it, our experience of existence is a function of our brains integrating and recalling state via entropy. Therefore, our moment of consciousness is sliding along in the direction of entropy, and our entanglements with the universe around us are likewise evolving with entropy

GenerocUsername··on Opposing arrows of time can theoretically emerge from certain quantum systems
OP here, and no, that's not what I mean.

What I mean is that since our brains store memories and generally process information utilizing entropic systems, we perceive time as always moving forward. There is no fundamental physical direction to time... But since our experience slides along an axis of increasing entropy, we perceive the whole universe sliding on that axis as well.

GenerocUsername··on New Junior Developers Can’t Actually Code
This. Just because things are always getting worse does not mean things are not literally at their worst
GenerocUsername··on Opposing arrows of time can theoretically emerge from certain quantum systems
Our brains operate on the principle entropy, therefore we experience time as the macro evolution of the universe along the dimension of increasing entropy.

Time itself does not exist, we merely experience it because it is how our consciousness experiences reality

GenerocUsername··on Increasing rat numbers in cities are linked to climate warming, urbanization
The magic of climate science is they literally use correlation as evidence of causation.

Climate change getting worse means anything else getting worse at same time can be bucketed into climate change.

GenerocUsername··on 75K federal workers accepted 'deferred resignation' offer
Annual attrition goals met by February. Ahead of schedule
GenerocUsername··on Eggs US – Price – Chart

GenerocUsername··on Is USAID mainly serving US interests? (2013)
"Minimum Legal operation" should probably be the target for many government programs.
GenerocUsername··on TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users
No my point was that both sides are frequently manipulated, but I see comments on the Internet EVERY DAY to the effect of 'the other side is being manipulated', apparently oblivious to their own manipulated opinions.

And CNN has ALWAYS been a propaganda wing, they just didn't have a serious competitor during the era when both parties were controlled by the same group. (Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama)

GenerocUsername··on TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users
I assume you are speaking about establishment politicians over the last 40-2000 years, but I suspect you are actually miming talking points about manipulation aimed at 1 very recent election where the established propaganda cycle failed to manipulate enough people and a different brand of manipulation brought in a different set of manipulators. Evidence of your own manipulated belief structures going without serious enough introspection to be held as a competent free agent
GenerocUsername··on The Origins of Wokeness
Not at all what it means to anyone. And anyone who phrases it so reduced is either lying or oblivious
