FromTheSteppe··on Zig: The Modern Alternative to C
Some languages support early return(break) and labeled return (continue) in lambdas. Although good languages have lazy iterators or optimizing compilers. One would use iterator.takeWhile(x => x is not m) in your case, or filter, and skip in other cases. Better languages even allow you to yield return and write your own lazy iterator transformations.

I could connect to my Iranian VPN which it's VPS I bought through portals available in English, type "The Climb 2023 دانلود", Click on first google Link and use google translate to find the download link in the page. Or use private trackers like IPTorrent or TorrentLeech through leecher (torrent to direct link) providers available in said countries. Will probably work on any other country/language combo with out copyrights law.
FromTheSteppe··on The pool of talented C++ developers is running dry
I'd love to have a C++ job. I didn't study for an A GPA to move data in and out of databases all day.

But I currently live in a 3rd world country which has no software C++ jobs. And I can't get a foreign C++ job because I don't have C++ experience.

Imagine wanting to leave all your networks, friends, family, and culture; get a lifestyle pay cut and still not get a C++ job. All skilled migrants must get a masters degree or PhD in their destination country just to get their get their CV viewed by an actual person.

The middle east has not been in any more or less conflicts than rest of the world. You have provided no statistics to prove this. By 1912, Maroc, Algerie, and Tunisie was under French control; Libye was under Italian control, Egypt, Sudan, Oman and Eastern Iran was under English control; and Northern Iran was under Russian control.

In Iran specifically, Allies caused 2 great famines in Iran(1917-1919, 1942-1943); Reza Shah was deposed in 1941 by the allies; democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh was overthrown in 1953 by CIA/MI6; Germany built Iraq's chemical weapon program and to prevent an Iranian victory, the United States supported the Iraqi army in their use of chemical weapons.

How can operate I with a bare minimum of good faith with someone who denies oppression and injustice? You're just being called out.

No middle east does not have "a 3 thousand year track record of being a mess". Imperialism though has a 300 years track record of messing the middle east up. You're racist.
FromTheSteppe··on Why Rust?
Because Ada tooling is bad. Try getting gnat on macOS aarch64 and compile emacs' ada mode extension. You'd never touch anything Ada again.
FromTheSteppe··on Show HN: My book for programmers called “Junior to Senior” was published today
Now this, is a book I'm willing to hoop around US sanctions and then fight Iran's internet filtering to read. Thank you.
FromTheSteppe··on Cruz: I Never Put Java in My Resume No Matter How Much Experience I Have
Iran has a very strong Microsoft roots and very serious brain drain problem. Right now, in jobinja.ir there are 84 spring jop openings and 346 .net job openings. I have worked with many of these "enterprise" .net code bases and it's as if they're written by people who keep experiencing their first year college experience every year, not people who have N years of professional experience. Oh and they went to college in the 1970s.

Of the few talents who decided to remain in the country, even fewer want to do boring enterprise work and they prefer staying on the "bleeding edge". Therefore there are very few companies doing java which can compete with foreign firms in payment(and so can keep talent and code quality).

FromTheSteppe··on Cruz: I Never Put Java in My Resume No Matter How Much Experience I Have
I envy you westerners being able to interview so easy for enterprise java jobs. The huge supply is devaluing the experience. I'm here in Iran dying to get to work on, and study a quality java codebase. But they're so few and I do not qualify. I don't think I'll see an actual enterprise codebase before I'm 30.
FromTheSteppe··on Show HN: Vim Tutorial as RPG
Remember that you're paying for a subscription. Years ago I bought this thinking the subscription agreement is just there so the author can pull the plug if hosting the project became unprofitable. Nope. It was a subscription to make more money, which is understandable, but is not worth it imho.
FromTheSteppe··on We Are Changing the License for Akka
The biggest and most battle tested implementation is certainly Erlang OTP and not Akka. I'm actually happy more attention will be given to ol' boring Erlang now.
FromTheSteppe··on UK energy bills are soaring to record highs
I guess invading Libya is still a better alternative to checks note importing fuel from Iran.
FromTheSteppe··on GitHub Copilot for individuals available without waitlist, with free trial
I live in Iran, one of the worst economics of the world. 10$ is 4 meals and it's still worth it imho.
FromTheSteppe··on AMD Acquires Xilinx
I hope they finally make Xilinx's netlist open source. Hardware design and verification tooling feel like they're 40 years behind software's.
FromTheSteppe··on “Zero fucks given” in other languages
As a Persian, I feel the same about "Kirete" | "Kiraeme" meaning "it's your dick" | "it's my dick" not being mentioned, for almost the same reasons.
FromTheSteppe··on Facebook bans, sends C&D letter to developer of Unfollow Everything extension
I'm a developer in Iran willing to do this, email in the profile, just in case the owner wants to and reads this.
FromTheSteppe··on Casbin: An authorization library that supports authz models like ACL, RBAC, ABAC
Keycloak is developed by Red Hat and is the safest bet (with the best documentation)
FromTheSteppe··on The Environmental Cost of Bitcoin
Nope. People are not taking advantage of anything. Do you live in Iran?

Majority of bitcoin is mined in containers. Civilians do not have access to megawatt power supplies. Civialns also can't import such containers. Electricity may be cheaper but graphic cards and ASICs certainly are not.

TDLR; people don't have access to mining equipment or power source required. Rulers do.

FromTheSteppe··on The Environmental Cost of Bitcoin
Iranian government is mining bitcoin and causing countrywide power shortages. It's also burning mazut in power plants and polluting the environment. Currently 8% of the world's bitcoin are mined in Iran (which has 1% of the world's population and 0.5% of world's GDP). I don't know if it's behalf of China or not yet but this must be stopped.
FromTheSteppe··on The Persian Art of Etiquette (2016)
I have lived in Iran for 26 years and have never had an issue with taarof. Old people just know I don't do taarof and they're fine with it. Young people don't do it at all. In fact they're so straight forward an American might find it rude (i.e business emails starts with no smalltalk).

The comments about our hospitality and generosity being fake is unfair and unfounded. It's also very self centered of someone to have such claims based solely on their experience and perception. Iran is a big county with different cultures and very different behavior between generations. Do American boomers and GenX behave the same?

The comments about our language not being understandable because of taarof is also laughable. I have never done taarof. My friends and family don't do taarof. My driver and food delivery guy get paid over a mobile app. My barber outright asks for tips. People who have chain migrated out of Iran ages ago and higher middle class people are not representative of all Iranians. We are just like you and everybody else.
