Fordec··on The first room-temperature ambient-pressure superconductor?
If this pans out, this is some 2044 Nobel Prize stuff

I'd say I expect better of an IBM employee, but I plainly don't.

Literally saying seek a professional opinion, not diagnosing themselves.
Fordec··on The many planned moon landings of 2023
An average of 2.5% per year for 10 years. It would be like spending $575B per year now on a percentage of GDP basis.

You can do a lot of things with that money. Now we're talking about missions doing it for a once off $100M. So yes, massive progress has been made.

Fordec··on Grammarly will discontinue the Text Editor SDK
Huh, not the OPs intent I'm sure, but this actually makes me want to give Grammarly a second look.
Fordec··on San Francisco loses 2 big conferences
You can admit a problem to yourself in private to get to work on it, you don't need to declare you're an active drug addict at every job interview.
Fordec··on San Francisco loses 2 big conferences
If he said anything otherwise the economic death spiral would become a cliff. He's just doing his job to not make national headlines basically telling people to run to the hills.

He's not right, but he's not in a political position that will economically benefit the people of the city by being candid.

Fordec··on Our food tastes are turning salty and weird
Salt is a taste enhancer where the underlying food is not up to scratch.

The food quality is getting worse as companies seek margins and throw the salt in to compensate for their business decisions.

Fordec··on All EU Members are committed to achieving full climate neutrality by 2050
As much as I prefer electrification, EUs policy on this front is clear. The shipping industry is one of the cited primary motivators for the EUs current Hydrogen infrastructure initiatives, such as the "Fit for 55" program.

Just as the EU are making moves on de-carbonizing road infrastructure, you do realize that people are thinking about the maritime aspect also? These net-zero 2050 commitments include maritime transport.

Fordec··on All EU Members are committed to achieving full climate neutrality by 2050
Well as of 2021 54% of German tracks are already electrified and have a 75% 2030 goal, so to claim it's going to take 50 years to do the other 46% seems wildly off base.
Fordec··on All EU Members are committed to achieving full climate neutrality by 2050
Europe has a much more fleshed out freight rail system and the vast majority of European countries have ocean access, so long range haul can be done by the cheapest form of transport of all, boat.
Fordec··on All EU Members are committed to achieving full climate neutrality by 2050
So be it.

Fordec··on Rivian embraces Tesla's charging standard for EVs
My perception is that CCS2 is better egineering than NACS but both are improvements over CCS1 so any alternate adoption is a market improvement. Having the pure "best design" is very rarely the deciding factor to market adoption.
Fordec··on Goodbye, Twilio
After following this thread and following up on some mentioned competitors, looks like I'm looking for Plivo. Cheaper and still covers the SMS backhaul use case without the fluff I don't need while still focusing on the developer. I'm sure I will have to move again in a few years, more its something for now.
Fordec··on Goodbye, Twilio
My open question becomes, who is servicing the request-reply service in its void? It still has a place as a subsystem within IoT that itself isn't anything necessarily hype worthy, but quiet background productive infrastructure in an easy to consume API format.

Maybe the answer isn't SMS but someone working on constrained satellite internet?

Fordec··on DeepFilterNet: Noise supression using deep filtering
Any NN tips? I have my legacy pipelines, but haven't put the effort to migrate yet even though I know I should.

Fordec··on High-tech farm startups are laid low by financing drought, pests
Ok? Indoor growing doesn't by law have to be hydroponics.
Fordec··on High-tech farm startups are laid low by financing drought, pests
USDA 3b is what I've generally seen sited. Mostly online, including Etsy, but it's much easier to grow by cuttings.
Fordec··on High-tech farm startups are laid low by financing drought, pests
There are plant's that are basically impossible to transport, so they aren't farmed for practical purposes. Remove the need for long distance transport, you have a unique proposition.

Eg. I bet you've never had a Thimbleberry.

Fordec··on Meta Open-Sources Computer Vision Foundation Model DINOv2
Microsoft made a massive investment in OpenAI and get 75% of OpenAI profit at least until that earns them the $10B invested back. Microsoft, for now, from a financials perspective are OpenAI rather than any old third party integrator. They are the paymasters.

Fordec··on Walkout at global science journal over ‘unethical’ fees
Don't mistake self-congratulatory with show-y about academia.

Only the home crowd know academics names, politics at least has the public eye on them.

Fordec··on Prompt engineering vs. blind prompting
Name one business problem solved with any tool that can only be solved by that tool and nothing else.

It's not about uniqueness, the name of the game is efficiency/scaling already solvable problems by multiple or skilled humans and reducing one of those dimensions.

Fordec··on AMD CEO: The Next Challenge Is Energy Efficiency
It's used inside Google's TPUs[0]. Useless for regular logic programming (You've wouldn't want a nuclear power plant, or your payment processor to approximately work), but has found a use case in scaling ML pipelines where the accuracy of individual values is less important compared to billions of parameters in aggregate.

Fordec··on Turkey earthquake opened 190-mile-long fissure
Tried looking it on Sentinel Hub but based off the visual resolution, the cracks are mostly are too small to see from space with the optical satellites that just about show individual buildings.

My assumption is that you can only really statistically tell the difference with the Synthetic Aperture Radar data or if you're on the ground right beside or looking at the very largest ruptures in the country like that olive farm.
