Footnote7341··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
Which rights? What does that mean?
Footnote7341··on David Sacks: OpenAI and Anthropic Don't Need Regulations to Pace Frontier Models
You're wrong about profits.
Footnote7341··on Nvidia dismisses "circular financing", says every $1 it invests brings back $100
Economic value isnt a physical resource being depleted....
Footnote7341··on A misalignment of AI in mathematics
Can't all the prestige-maxed mathematicians still study all these famous problems after ai solves them. And even if they convince open-ai to stop dunking on them, some normal user with gpt 7.1 on the normal chat interface will do it in a year.

Even if they stopped anyone from releasing ai proofs for five whole years it would be meaningless seeing as these problems are decades old already. Humans weren't JUST about to solve them until openai stepped on their toes.

Footnote7341··on More questions about whether researchers can trust OpenAI with unpublished math
This smells of extreme 'cope'. Am I really supposed to believe that all of these problems could have been solved, were right about to be solved, etc. But it just happens they are all getting solved now when AI is getting really good at Math...
Footnote7341··on I'm sorry, you're not going to die from an AI-engineered supervirus
Everyone is gathering around patting themselves on the back, but smallpox depopulated an entire continent. Clearly it is possible for a highly transmittable deadly virus to exist.
Footnote7341··on Flock Wants a Closely Surveilled World with No Exit
The real protections are where and how the data is allowed to be used, the state has had the technical capability of breaking into your home, following you, and reading your mail forever. But they aren't allowed to use it in court to prosecute you.
Footnote7341··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
I think you're right about having to be 100x safer, but it's definitely irrational and a bad thing.
Footnote7341··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
self driving is safer than human driving, why should we apply urgent attention to AI driver safety. Human drivers are killing hundreds of people daily.
Footnote7341··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
In many jurisdictions you can run people over and kill them and as long it was a normal lapse in judgement or mistake they cannot charge you.

Only if you intentionally drive recklessly, for example speeding and racing, is it easy to charge a driver for manslaughter.

Footnote7341··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
Plenty of examples of this. In many jurisdictions even accidentally rolling through a stop sign does not even come close to 'serious recklessness'.

Footnote7341··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
We do not generally hold drivers responsible for slips in judgement when driving. Only in cases of extreme recklessness is it normal for a driver to be 'held responsible'.

It is silly that we hold self driving cars to an astronomically higher standard. We all know they are safer than human drivers. And that is true even if they kill 50 people a day.

Footnote7341··on Our position on open-weights models
The elementary school example is a clear sign of bad faith. Neither Iran or the USA have intentionally blown up any school children.
Footnote7341··on Higher usage limits for Claude and a compute deal with SpaceX
I'm using grok to help bring awareness to black and brown and latinx communities that live within 100 miles of Colossus 1!
Footnote7341··on Higher usage limits for Claude and a compute deal with SpaceX
The current bottleneck on compute is power and zoning. Solar panels are 5x more efficient in space, and there is no zoning in space.
Footnote7341··on Higher usage limits for Claude and a compute deal with SpaceX
IDK what world you're living in, but in the real world Americans are the richest people on earth and richer than ever before in real terms. And yes international seigniorage is part of that.
Footnote7341··on HP trialed mandatory 15-minute support call wait times (2025)
It is technically possible for mandatory 15 minute support call wait times to increase total user happiness by lowering average wait time in the queue.
Footnote7341··on OpenAI Has New Focus (on the IPO)
Everytime I use Gemini, the pro paid version, it ends almost every interaction with "This relates perfectly with <random personal fact it memorized about me> do you want to learn how it connects to that!?"

and it is just annoying and never useful or interesting. Hilariously hamfisted.

I'll be asking about linear programming and it's trying to relate it to my Italian 1 class or my previous career.

Footnote7341··on War prediction markets are a national-security threat
That has nothing to do with the point of my post.
Footnote7341··on War prediction markets are a national-security threat
Isnt this silly when you can calculate the chance of war in Iran by oil futures instead. Prediction markets are just explicit markers of information that is already being traded on in 100 different ways.
Footnote7341··on Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month
No, there is hardware based attestation, and it could be set by an administrator / parent for the user account.
Footnote7341··on Millennium Challenge: A corrupted military exercise and its legacy (2015)
Creating a strong image to adversaries, aka deterrent, is a key function of all nations militaries. But the US conducts tough rigorous exercises against impossible odds constantly. All ground forces are rotated through NTC and JRTC where expert opfor units are given all the toys, home-field advantage, and usually win.
Footnote7341··on DoorDash and Waymo launch autonomous delivery service in Phoenix
We're still moving thousands of pounds of vehicle around a public highway to carry a 1lb burrito, obviously lightweight aerial drones are the future for food and grocery delivery.
Footnote7341··on We rewrote the Ghostty GTK application
I managed to write a fairly large GTK application without the GTK type system encroaching on my code at all. It just meant hooking a bunch of lambdas in where they want you to be inheriting from and extending their own classes to allow all the parts to communicate together.

In the end it wasn't that messy, but probably confusing for anyone used to writing dogmatic GTK applications.

Footnote7341··on TikTok says it is restoring service for U.S. users
Foreign countries are already banned from owning TV stations in the United States so this is certainly not a speech issue. I dont think its clear that Trump can really save TikTok without passing a law through congress though.
Footnote7341··on Generating an infinite world with the Wave Function Collapse algorithm
When did we start calling markov chains 'wave function collapse'?
Footnote7341··on NY governor signs law making the restaurant reservation black market illegal
Scalping is good and there is no such thing as a distorted price.
Footnote7341··on TikTok divestment law upheld by federal appeals court
We aren't used to draconian internet control in the west yet, in China and Russia the population is. Everyone who's anyone just uses a VPN and uses western internet when they like. China banned western social media for the exact same reason that the US wanted to, they were just ready to do it earlier.
Footnote7341··on The Engagement Is Better on Bluesky
Ok thats nice and all, but 'a general vibe' doesn't survive actual incentives.
Footnote7341··on Using drones to terrorize a city [video]
Aren't the civilians in Kherson largely Russian citizens according to the official Russian line here? It's one of the territories they officially annexed.
