What does 'blub' mean?

They had a platform for distributing music to all the online music stores like iTunes, Spotify, etc. I thought I'd be working on this platform to add support for new music services, which I was. Except the only purpose to distribute music to YouTube is so that it can be used by their Content ID system.

I worked on the back end system that allowed record labels block their content on YouTube. I thought I was going to be working on a system to help indie record labels distribute their content. I lasted 9 months.

$150 million / 10 years / $200k per dev = 75 developers. I'm pretty sure more than 75 people work on Android, so yeah, a lot more than $150 million has been paid out.

macOS has very low latency with the standard APIs.

If you use JUCE (https://juce.com/) you'll get a single API for all the different audio APIs on macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux, etc.

You'll probably get a warning about using an uninitialized variable if you don't. Compiler probably can't tell the variable will only be written and not read.

It's also just good practice to initialize your variables.

The Zune was too late. It was launched 6 months before the iPhone was announced. The MP3 player market peaked shortly after as iPhone and Android took off. It's hard to launch a new product into a shrinking market.

75 years ago was 1943, there was no tourism in Europe unless you were flying a bomber or driving a tank.

The first jet airliner didn't fly until 1949 which enabled tourism for the common person.

I'm sure tourism was "better" in the old days when only the wealthy could afford to travel.

I think it's common in smaller cities, there just aren't many jobs to jump to. My city is population 360,000. I had my first job in 2001 and I know several devs that are still there. My wife, electrical engineer, not dev, has also only had one job.

Having one hand I felt this way, I spent a lot of money on a Maltron one handed keyboard, but I could never get it integrated into my work flow. And then laptops became popular, and I just can't be bothered to carry a laptop and a keyboard around with me. So unless I use one computer all the time, I can't get away from qwerty, so I've just stuck with it.

If there is a contribution from a human, then it would be from the user who entered some parameters and ran the program, not the author of program. Therefore the copyright would belong to the user, which is fine.

The only way the copyright could belong to the author of the program, is if the program contained copyrighted material that it copied directly into the output.

For example, if the program contained 1000 prewritten melodies, and randomly selected one and copied it into the output.

Since the output of an algorithm can't be copyrighted, does it make an sense to apply a license to it? You can't waive rights that you don't have.

I always thought Yellow Pages was a generic term, but that's only in the USA. In other countries it's a trademark and owned by specific countries. TIL.

Started an open source project Miranda IM. Even though I didn't work on it long, it's cool to see the project is still active 18 years later. I continued to use it for a long time, but I no longer use any instant messaging which is kind of sad in itself.

Armstrong would have gotten away with it if he hadn't tried is comeback. He returned to the sport in 2009 and tried to play the game the old way after the game had changed. He'd already won the Tour 7 times, what did he have to gain with his comeback? Nothing -- and he lost it all.

It would be nice if the output midi files were broken into verse, chorus, bridge, etc instead of one big midi file per track. Also be nice if drums was midi instead of rendered audio.

On car makers or wine producers the US can impose import duties i.e. 25% on light trucks. There is no equivalent to import duties for online businesses, hence this tax plan.

What are the alternatives to Wordpress? Every time a small business comes to me and wants a website, my answer is Wordpress + a theme + one or two plugins. I'm not aware of anything else with as many themes or plugins available, or as easy to get going.

I'm a C++ dev, not a professional web developer, but I help out friends and family. With Wordpress I usually bill around 4 hours to do a website for someone if they have the content written.

I recently had do support for a Digidesign Pro Control (https://medias.audiofanzine.com/images/normal/digidesign-pro...) that used it's own ethernet protocol. Libtins made it very easy and I didn't need to write my own driver or anything like that.

Isn't taxing on revenue just sales tax, or at least, it will have the same effect? If companies have to pay 5% of revenue as tax they'll just raise prices to cover it?

Yes, manually. I missed that distinction, building the tool could be fun, but verifying it works would be a huge pain. Shouldn't be too hard to write test cases for tax code.

I would disagree. On of my first jobs was porting assembler to C for a paging switch. The assembler was well written and well documented. The task was slow, hard and painfully boring. It took months to get every function to be a perfect match.

Do you know which RPis used this CPU? Just the original? I'm looking for a way of emulating a RPi2/3 so I can run the arm version of Ubuntu Mate. Any idea if a method like this will work for me?

CMSIS provides an abstraction layer for peripherals, so at least the basics are the same between manufacturers. At least it's something, usually when switch MCUs you have to rewrite everything related to peripherals.
