FetusP··on System76 on Age Verification Laws
But, should it be the governments responsibility to decide/control how children are raised, and what they are exposed to?

Maybe in the future, a governing body will try to age lock dissenting opinions with some crafty verbage

I'm curious what a bouldering app is? As in climbing, like a route checklist type thing?
FetusP··on 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 on sale now at $50
I noticed those links went to the 8gb for $80. If you swap it to the 2gb when available it comes down to 50$.
FetusP··on Confirmation of ancient lake on Mars
Oh yeah, 100% agree and I'm going to use that bread baking analogy if its ever relevant again.

I swear I'm decent at conversation in real life, but I don't think I'm good at it online.

Yeah, I guess I had an intended tone without realizing it. I'm not sure I meant it to be sarcastic, but rephrasing his comment in questioning tone.

Oops

Why does knowledge we don't have matter?
FetusP··on Pulsars, not dark matter, explain the Milky Way’s antimatter
Intro college Physics is reformatting formulas to solve for variables in other formulas, and inserting them into each other.

So even if c = (w+x+y+z), e=mc^2 and e=m(w+x+y+z)^2 would still be equivalent.

FetusP··on Simulating History with ChatGPT
I think ultimately it just matters your comparison tolerance levels. You could just as easily make the argument that most churches are different from each other as well.

In my opinion, churches/mosque/temples are very similar because I live in a younger part of the world where the modern buildings look similar and the eventual purpose is them being a place of worship.

FetusP··on Simulating History with ChatGPT
Yeah but you could say Chipotle and Panda Express buildings are very similar, but the core business is way different.
FetusP··on Simulating History with ChatGPT
Are you comparing mosques/churches/temples, or are you comparing religions?
FetusP··on Ask HN: I’m an FCC Commissioner proposing regulation of IoT security updates
While I have neither, I'd much rather use a smart oven to see its status than have a constant camera feed of my kitchen.
FetusP··on US Air Force wants $6B to build 2k AI-powered drones
Reading the article, it makes me think that they are making a real life aimbot for the Air Force.

It is getting silly though. Makes conversations with less than tech savvy people a little difficult lately since it's such a hot topic

FetusP··on Layoffs are down, but employers are still finding ways to cut jobs
I just want to throw out that "paid by the year" has not been a common thing in my American experience. I've never heard of anyone with that.

Unless they are talking about a yearly salary.

FetusP··on Are 99% of LLMs based on web scraping?

FetusP··on Old software keeping space missions alive
Maybe to access the drive, they have to go through a lockable case. If someone lost the keys to that case, they might have had to pop the locks with a bolt cutter
FetusP··on Disney used to hate gambling. Now it’s doing a $2B sports betting deal
I don't understand the comparison. With cannabis companies, did the overall sales go down or did certain companies capture the market?

Because if it's about certain companies capturing the market, I'd put money on Disney

FetusP··on Tinder wants to sell a $500-a-month subscription
>Van Ryswyk declined to share exactly what features you can expect to find in the new subscription model, but he says the brand is “really looking at a whole range of additional value-add services to Tinder overall” in a conversation with Fast Company

Feels like Twitter is about to get into the pimping business.

FetusP··on Fatal grizzly attack renews debate over how many bears are too many
I lived in bear country, and still live relatively close and visit all the time. I think it's just generally safe to assume if someone says brown bear, it's a grizzly. Like the old saying doesn't work as well like

If it's black, fight back

If it's ursus arctos horribilis, lay down

If it's white, goodnight.

FetusP··on Fatal grizzly attack renews debate over how many bears are too many
I feel like the first sentence of the wiki article explains it...

>The grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis), also known as the North American brown bear or simply grizzly, is a population or subspecies[2] of the brown bear inhabiting North America.

FetusP··on Fatal grizzly attack renews debate over how many bears are too many
Aren't grizzlies brown bears?
FetusP··on MacKenzie Scott is giving away more money, faster, than anyone has before

Appreciate you.

I miss the days of simple internet where you could just click and read without accepting cookies, subscriptions, ad blocker blockers... Etc

FetusP··on Supersonic Trebuchet
I can't imagine so. Even if it was somehow accurate, it wouldn't be very mobile or quick..

I'd imagine one person with a pistol could take out a good sized group of people shooting marble trebuchets
