FeteCommuniste··on Getting Creative with Perlin Noise Fields
Nice examples, I think I landed on that page quite a while ago. I love Processing and Perlin noise. One thing I enjoyed was using Perlin noise values to compute a "region" on the canvas and making the behavior of a particle depend on which region it was in. Examples:

The Processing code I wrote to make them is here: https://github.com/Brian-Fearn/Processing/blob/main/PerlinNo...

FeteCommuniste··on "Don't You Just Upload It to ChatGPT?"
I don't know, I was never one to "assign roles" to AI myself, but if it ends up working for some people in practice, then I guess it might be worth examining why.

FeteCommuniste··on Israeli firm BlackCore suspected of meddling in New York and Scotland votes
It's from the old Tom Lehrer song, "Wernher von Braun."
FeteCommuniste··on "Don't You Just Upload It to ChatGPT?"
I imagined it as kind of a shorthand for "you should be spending my tokens on looking for / addressing issues like X, Y, and Z," where X, Y, and Z are the sorts of things that an expert in [insert domain here] would be likely to care most about.
FeteCommuniste··on Claude Fable 5
And then in a couple years the AI gets better at "using AI" than the bottom 99.999% of knowledge workers, who are now out of work.
FeteCommuniste··on If Claude Fable stops helping you, you'll never know
Distilling the entirety of thousands of years of human intellectual output: totally cool.

Distilling the answers of one LLM: totally uncool.

FeteCommuniste··on If Claude Fable stops helping you, you'll never know
Yeah, MS doesn't quite exemplify good-faith competitive spirit, does it?
FeteCommuniste··on Show HN: Lathe – Use LLMs to learn a new domain, not skip past it
Some people will probably be curious regardless of their environment but I think there are others who could be swayed into developing curiosity (or not) by life experiences. And an ever-present "just gimme the answer now" button could be a powerful force pulling them toward the "incurious" side.
FeteCommuniste··on The OnlyFans Economy of American AI
They've been singing the same old song since the Cold War, "either support everything the US does or you're a commie/terrorist." Yawn.
FeteCommuniste··on India's surprise baby bust
Fascinating hypothesis. I wonder if technological and economic progress makes "nuclearisation" inevitable, i.e. people can just move wherever the best money is at.
FeteCommuniste··on India's surprise baby bust
Interesting. Once you have a cellphone to amuse yourself, perpetuating the species is just too much bother?
FeteCommuniste··on Elixir v1.20: Now a gradually typed language
So the future of programming is asking an LLM to spit out the appropriate assembly?
FeteCommuniste··on The newest Instagram “exploit” is the goofiest I've seen
Interesting thought experiment but I'd presume they have backups to which they could revert, right?
FeteCommuniste··on Training our own AI models
They are opting you in by default. Very cool.
FeteCommuniste··on Greg Brockman interview [video]
Maybe a little extreme but I love it.
FeteCommuniste··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
A high-fidelity simulation of a Russian with damage to Broca's area, perhaps.
FeteCommuniste··on We let AIs run radio stations
The major LLMs as implemented are basically role-playing programs. The default role is something like "helpful chatbot" so if you tell an LLM "do whatever you feel like on your own" it will simply use its weights to determine "what would a helpful chatbot do and say in this scenario?"

FeteCommuniste··on AI slop is killing online communities
There's some work on using phone accelerometer data as a "proof of human," e.g. "move your phone in a figure eight," which I guess machines can't quite do in a human enough way yet.
FeteCommuniste··on AI slop is killing online communities
Yeah, I think "pay to enter" or maybe "pay to be able to post" is ultimately going to be the solution. Then we'll have the paid "gated" social networks, filled with mostly humans, and the free ones will all be bot-swarmed wastelands.
FeteCommuniste··on Cloudflare to cut about 20% of its workforce
Wonder if they used AI to write it. "We don't just [x]. We [y]" strikes again.
FeteCommuniste··on Cloudflare to cut about 20% workforce
Even so, "Daddy needs a new yacht" might sound too insensitive.
FeteCommuniste··on The X-Files has made me nostalgic for a time I never experienced
Ah, a fellow 1984 release.

I'm pretty nostalgic for the 90s. Maybe everyone who had at least a halfway-decent childhood feels that way about their kid years, though.

FeteCommuniste··on The X-Files has made me nostalgic for a time I never experienced
We have amazing cell phones, though.
FeteCommuniste··on How ChatGPT serves ads
I've been using Gemini a couple months and haven't noticed it pushing Google products at all.

I did ask it some scientific questions about gemstones and it seemed to want me to buy sapphires, lol. Sorry, Google, that's outside my budget.

FeteCommuniste··on The Stanford Freshmen Who Want to Rule the World
Interesting that "recruitment" happens right after age of consent is reached. I guess eighteen year olds have some special intellectual quality that a twenty year old would lack?
