FerociousTimes··on Incidents caused by unappreciated OSS maintainers or underfunded OSS projects
I beg to differ and say that requesting better documentation is fair, and it goes without saying that maintainers don't need to fulfill these requests, as I don't think that these requests are driven by an inexplicable sense of entitlement or unfairness to OSS maintainers, but instead a desire for more knowledge about the projects and since no one knows the codebase better than the creators themselves, it becomes obvious that you turn to them for answers to your questions or technical problems that you might face.

Isn't this like a revival of the dreadful era of browser plug-ins from Adobe Flash Player to Java applets?

FerociousTimes··on Europe now has so much natural gas that prices just dipped below zero
I like how you're effectively nitpicking my seemingly nitpicking comment in defense of anti-nitpicking :)
FerociousTimes··on Europe now has so much natural gas that prices just dipped below zero
Which is good, isn't it?

At least the energy crisis has been averted for the first month of the autumn season in Europe and the outlook looks promising going into the second month esp for households in light of rising costs and soaring inflation.

FerociousTimes··on Europe now has so much natural gas that prices just dipped below zero
Where do you live?
FerociousTimes··on Europe now has so much natural gas that prices just dipped below zero
The $2 Bln quote could be historical but in real time live spot prices at the present, the rates cratered momentarily to zero or even negative territories.
FerociousTimes··on Europe now has so much natural gas that prices just dipped below zero
Not to nitpick and assuming you're living in the northern hemisphere, winter has not officially arrived; we're still in the fall/autumn season.
FerociousTimes··on Python 3.11 is faster than 3.8
OK, I'll watch your repo and track the updates and see when you release the JS/TS port and then I'll a give it a try and port it to Ruby and send it your way.

Best wishes

FerociousTimes··on Python 3.11 is faster than 3.8
Can you do Node 19.0 and Ruby 3.1.x too please?
FerociousTimes··on Kitchen Renovation ideas animation using Stable Diffusion [video]
This wasn't a value judgement BTW. I acknowledged the valid and productive use cases for this project but pointed out that it wasn't revolutionary in creativity or innovation at this stage. For me, it looks like Pinterest on steroids, very capable and efficient but not mind-blowing or out of this world.
FerociousTimes··on Kitchen Renovation ideas animation using Stable Diffusion [video]
This is still rehashing the same concepts/ideas in circulation not producing novel ones nor innovating in this space. Maybe it will prove beneficial for rapid prototyping during the ideation stage for mass-market products/services in the commercial/residential remodeling industry but nothing revolutionary.

Isn't this sort of a roadshow but aimed instead at angel investors and not the usual pre-IPO investors?

I would have preferred and opted for "to teach" instead, or probably the more emphatic yet more problematic "to teach the truth" but the sentence structure seems sound to me grammatically speaking.
FerociousTimes··on Rammstein Get Restraining Order Blocking Viagogo from Reselling Concert Tickets
Rich people buying tickets to be seated in the peanut gallery section??

Come on, let's get real here!

FerociousTimes··on Rammstein Get Restraining Order Blocking Viagogo from Reselling Concert Tickets
Rice is a fungible and commoditized food source where no apparent global producer has enormous pricing power to dictate prices according to their whims, while popular music bands/acts are not commoditized and the supply is intrinsically limited or even scarce, and thus pricing is more flexible and can be manipulated more easily.
FerociousTimes··on Rammstein Get Restraining Order Blocking Viagogo from Reselling Concert Tickets
> What if all food was priced "optimally" in terms of foodmakers' profit, making it so expensive that half of society starves to death?

Not to nitpick or take away from your point but this strategy is extremely myopic and counter-productive even from a maximum financial utility for the food producers as it eliminates the consumers gradually for their products destroying the demand side and the market altogether in the process.

FerociousTimes··on Rammstein Get Restraining Order Blocking Viagogo from Reselling Concert Tickets
But this is supposed to be a retail business not wholesale, I am trying very hard to get the professors' point in this debate but I just can't.

Maybe the ticket market is ripe for some structural changes where wholesalers become an integral part of the value chain but I don't seriously think that this is the way to go by competing directly with retail consumers by denying them access to these tickets.

FerociousTimes··on Ask HN: Have you experienced “hiring fraud?”
How many fraudulent candidates did you guys hire exactly?
FerociousTimes··on Ask HN: Have you experienced “hiring fraud?”
Can you cite any cases where US authorities prosecuted such applicants for lying on their resumes?

I doubt that it really happened since as you may have hinted, no prosecutors are interested in pursuing these cases for lack of sympathy as you put it, which I can't verify, or failure of winning the case which I suspect to be the chief motive here since misrepresenting facts or exaggerating events on your resume is not a crime.

FerociousTimes··on Ask HN: Have you experienced “hiring fraud?”
What I was trying to say is that since courts would laugh at these organization, and rightly so, for not doing their due diligence, these would-be offenders might actually proceed to pull the stunt, and try their luck landing the job.

Also, I fail to see how this can be prosecuted when there's no identity theft or forgery i.e. real crimes involved in this act. It can be all boiled down to being just another case of an under-qualified candidate holding a role without proper or adequate credentials due to flawed hiring procedures, or more frankly the incompetence of the decision makers inside the organization.

FerociousTimes··on Ask HN: Have you experienced “hiring fraud?”
Whose fault is in all of this?

Again not to look like flogging a dead horse here, but it's the hiring manager's and the organization's not the contractors' for this turn of events.

They should have done their own due diligence and cross-checked the references and the whole nine yards.

FerociousTimes··on Ask HN: Have you experienced “hiring fraud?”
> though most courts will just laugh at companies and tell them they clearly didn’t do enough due diligence, so most people trying it will be worried about being arrested in person.

There's a contradiction here, right?

FerociousTimes··on Ask HN: Have you experienced “hiring fraud?”
I think that hiring organizations by now should have been immune to this kind of "switcheroo" or "bait and switch" tactics on the supply side of labor.

It always amazes me that some businesses still fall for this kind of deception, it's like the oldest trick in the book.

FerociousTimes··on What I’ve learned from users
1) As you said, these LinkedIn *testimonials" are more of professional endorsements than anything. In my opinions, testimonials on the web have become totally discredited, and the moment I see one in the wild, the first thing that pops on my mind, it's a commercial with an identity crisis.

2) I totally agree with you that details are scarce and left much to be desired but maybe this narrative is more suitable to other media like books or podcasts where they have the space to expand on points and let us all on the juicy details.

I pretty much would have appreciated to hear the full story on Airbnb struggles in the beginning and how they managed to turn it around.

While I don't agree with your view regarding the classification of this piece as a sales pitch -- it's infused with variable value proposition statements, it doesn't detract from the core message -- I share your sentiment that PG is one of the leading experts in the world of startup accelerators.

Regarding your suggestions, I don't think that this listicle-heavy Buzzfeed type of writing suits PG. I'm more drawn to his abstract and enigmatic writing style.

FerociousTimes··on What I’ve learned from users
Maybe PG should listen to his users, in this specific case his readers, and provide a summary at the top of the article on each post for people running on a busy schedule.

I for once felt like returning to the days of college when I finished writing this comment where I'd prepare summaries for lecture notes for me and my friends, very nostalgic times.

Tesla was supposed to pass some of those cost savings onto the end customer not to pocket it all like this but I'm aware that it's a corporation that's looking to maximize profits to their shareholders and extract as much value as possible from their clientele.
