Feathercrown··on Boardgame.io: an engine for creating turn-based games using JavaScript
Ooh this is neat, I've been working on something similar. I'll have to check it out and see if they're using the same abstractions as I am. Could be enlightening!
Feathercrown··on Getting to 2M users as a one woman dev team [video]
I'm a monster, I see code that's been commented out for more than 2 months or so and nuke it unless I know it's needed. We have Git, it'll be fiiine
Feathercrown··on JSON parsers that can accept comments
Threads in browsers sounds like an absolute nightmare of new browser bugs and dev issues
Feathercrown··on Skia Canvas: Browserless implementation of the HTML Canvas drawing API for node
I've been waiting for this for a long time. Previous attempts to do similar things required installing Node-Gyp, which was a nightmare.
Feathercrown··on What Color is Your Function? (2015)
They even created setImmediate(fn) for this purpose
Feathercrown··on How I use git
Something I've always wanted is a simple way to rearrange local commits between different branches (or reorder them) by clicking and dragging. I know there are CLI tools out there to do it, but I haven't explored the options yet. I think that's much more intuitive than doing the same actions using the CLI, although that's mostly because using the CLI forces you to know the Git internals by heart, which is probably a good thing in the long run.
Feathercrown··on Commonly used arm positions can overestimate blood pressure readings: study
I went in for a checkup and my doctor actually retested me after a few minutes because the first reading was unnaturally high. Hurrying into the office and the general anxiety of being in a hospital certainly raises it by a bit.
Feathercrown··on Studios: Please Don't Spoil the Movie We Are Seated to See
That's when you call the staff over
Feathercrown··on Canvases versus Documents
This dichotomy seems like a very useful tool for analyzing media.
Feathercrown··on Jazz – Apps with Distributed State
Couldn't you just use api/schema versioning?
Feathercrown··on The Rise of Worse Is Better (1991)
I think the counterargument is that something being easy to proliferate doesn't mean that it's good.
Feathercrown··on Falsehoods programmers believe about TCP
But they assert whether or not something exists, as an absolute statement. Maybe TCP packets don't exist in a particular situation, but there is still such a thing as a TCP packet in that case.
Feathercrown··on GPTs and Hallucination
Their ability to generate facts is a consequence of the word statistics they are truly using. I think it's fair to say the statistics explanation is a more accurate interpretation.
Feathercrown··on Why Login Security Sucks
correcthorsebatterystaple isn't much worse
Feathercrown··on What's functional programming all about? (2017)
I think the point of the article is to illustrate why "no side effect" is important.
Feathercrown··on Is My Blue Your Blue?
But teal isn't a single point, it's a range. You can have teals that are more blue or more green than each other; they can't all be zero. Whichever one you choose to be the true transition point between blue and green, there will be teals that are more blue or green than that one.
Feathercrown··on Electric chainsaws and the gorge of misery
> After all, if what you’re prescribing is truly better wouldn’t people naturally choose it?

No, not really. People are very bad at choosing the thing that will result in the best outcome for themselves, let alone for the rest of us.

Feathercrown··on JavaScript garbage collection and closures
You can rename eval, but the renamed eval will be considered "indirect" and will run in the global scope.
Feathercrown··on New technology could reduce the amount of energy for air conditioning
It may be cheaper or more effective to increase efficiency rather than offset the efficiency cost with more energy. Plus you can do both!
Feathercrown··on Sharedrop: Easy P2P file transfer powered by WebRTC – inspired by Apple AirDrop
I'm kind of surprised that there aren't general-purpose public-use servers for this purpose.
Feathercrown··on Numeronymize
I dislike numeronyms. They may be shorter to type, but unlike acronyms, where the acronym itself is a valid pronounciation, numeronyms cannot usually be pronounced. The only way to know how is to know what the original word is, so you have to ask every time.
Feathercrown··on Mechanical computer relies on kirigami cubes, not electronics
You can route a wire to both inputs of a NAND or NOR gate to create a NOT.
Feathercrown··on HP bricks customers laptops with faulty automatic BIOS upgrade
I've bought two of those headsets and neither one lasted 2 years
Feathercrown··on Gradient descent visualization
When I took an ML class we solved that with a temperature parameter, to allow random deviations out of a local minimum. I wonder if there are novel methods now or if they're just improved versions of temperature?
Feathercrown··on Pyinfra: Automate Infrastructure Using Python
This is really cool! Kinda seems like the Nix config approach.
Feathercrown··on Hitting every branch on the way down
I wouldn't consider rebasing your own local commits on top of a more recent remote master to be messing with history in any meaningful way, and that's the most useful method of rebasing.
Feathercrown··on The forgotten war on beepers
Couldn't Twitter do that once?
Feathercrown··on Open-sourcing our progress on Tailwind CSS v4.0
I think we've lost some of the coolness of the old web from this mentality. We turned website source code from a txt to a pdf.
Feathercrown··on French court issues damages award for violation of GPL
Bone apple tea, with an em dash to boot
Feathercrown··on Why it's impossible to agree on what's allowed
1. The majority said the ambulance was a vehicle, so agreeing with that wouldn't lower your score

2. It's an agreement score, not an achievement score. All it does is measure how many questions you agreed with the majority on. The score does not convey a value or judge your actions, it's just there to inform you how closely you align to others' answers.
