Eyght··on Myst at 25: How it changed gaming, created addicts, and made enemies
The article didn't make mention of the role of sound in Myst. I remember people setting up their big 90's stereos with massive speakers to fully immerse themselves in the Myst world. The game really built a strange, otherworldy atmosphere.
Eyght··on Anthony Bourdain has died
Putting an important decision such as ending ones life behind a single point-and-click action is really bad UX. There should at least be a number of "Are you sure?" prompts and two factor authentication as a bare minimum.
Eyght··on China smartphone market suffers hard-landing, shipments decline 21% in Q1 2018
I've been using the same phone for almost 4 years now (oneplus one). It came with 3gb ram and 64gb storage and cost about $300, vat included. There are two tells that I'm using an old phone. The camera is really bad compared to the current ones, and it doesn't have any biometric unlock.
Eyght··on All You Need to Know About UML Diagrams
I once took a couple of informatics courses at uni. They talked about uml as if the software would just magically fly out of the diagrams onto peoples computers.
Eyght··on Google and Microsoft Push Websites to Go Password-Less
Maybe those people with facial tattoos are onto something.
Eyght··on Teslasuit – full body haptic VR suit
Here is a link to another video where a guy wears the suit, has it setup, and gets 'touched'.

Eyght··on Show HN: Hacker News Ranked by Comment/Score Ratio
It might be simpler to look at the share of the population that went to see the movie. That should tell us how influential a movie was compared to another.
Eyght··on New method developed to 3D print fully functional electronic circuits
The article mentions a video but I can't seem to find it. If anyone finds it, please share it.
Eyght··on Ask HN: Is Comcast having internet problems?
Seems like the UK and Germany are under relatively heavy load right now.

Eyght··on The Netherlands has become an agricultural giant
I've been buying what they call "Plum Tomatoes" and they are much better than anything else I can get here in Sweden. Technically I think they are Grape Tomatoes, as they are quite small.
Eyght··on Norway, where no salaries are secret
If someone makes a request for your personal income and tax information in Sweden, you'll always get a letter with the name of who requested your information and a copy of the information that was supplied to them.
Eyght··on McRevolt: The Frustrating Life of the McDonald's Franchisee (2015)
It's the old one-size-fits-all-(but-badly) problem. If you want to maximize your target customer base, the taste of the food becomes very bland. So they try to compensate by adding more items to the menu - and subsequently run into the problems described in the article.
Eyght··on The Benefits of Talking to Yourself
If I say something out loud I usually realize much quicker if it makes sense or not. The act of vocalizing a thought triggers a second check whether or not I'm making a fool of myself, and quite often it turns out that I am!
Eyght··on Still Logged In: What Social VR and AR Can Learn from MMOs [video]
I wonder if future popular virtual worlds won't go more towards the 'abandon all hope ye who enter here'-kind of route. That being said, the premise of setting up AI Police in games to avoid abuse seems like an amazing project to work on.
Eyght··on A Physicist Who Denies Dark Matter
Your link made me very grateful for Firefox's Reader View.
Eyght··on HP laptops covertly log users’ every keystroke, researchers warn
Could I simulate trillions of keystrokes on my laptop daily and have HP ddos themselves with their own software?
Eyght··on China may lead the electric car revolution
I think your idea works out in most cases. Examples:

"Theresa May promises 'No snap election'"

"James May to stay sober for entire season of shooting The Grand Tour"

Eyght··on Ask HN: Which non-technology book has influenced you the most and why?
Many of the problems he describes keeps coming back with each iteration of technological evolution. Like the Ident-I-Eeze card[1] and the inherent issue with providing reliable identification.

Eyght··on John Nimmo, Internet Troll, Jailed Again
The term "internet troll" could be used as defusing terminology by the defense to imply that the comments were solely made to elicit response, rather than threaten or harm. The Guardian would then use the term in the title to show how even a self-described internet troll isn't safe from repercussions, regardless of stated intention.
Eyght··on Turning CO2 to Stone
Peat is a great long-term storage for atmospheric carbon [1].

Eyght··on Finland will hand out cash to 2000 jobless people to test universal basic income
I know that at least some municipalities in Sweden allows for earnings equal to ~25% of the social welfare payment, before it's reduced. So you can earn about $250 extra per month and get to keep it, instead of being stuck with the same income. Cheap way to provide extra incentive for people to actually get out and work. Even if it's only for a few hours a week.
Eyght··on Researchers: Artificial Sweeteners Prevent Weight Loss
The effect seems to be caused by a metabolite of aspartame, called PHE. So you could check whether stevia or erythritol produces the same metabolite.
Eyght··on Twitch could be a $20B company within Amazon
They are currently beta testing the js player.

Eyght··on Show HN: A simple infinite world in WebGL
I'm hoping that this kind of interaction will be part of one of our first encounters with aliens, sometime in the far future. The aliens would ask why we had done something a certain way and the human answer would be: "Because it looks good".
Eyght··on Oracle Buys NetSuite for $9.3B
I'm calling it now. If this deal goes through Larry Ellison will buy a huge new boat.
Eyght··on Dutch men confirmed as world's tallest
There was a study last year that pointed to Dutch women preferring tall men as the most probable cause of the rapid increase in height. [1]

Eyght··on Google Cuts Its Giant Electricity Bill with DeepMind-Powered AI
This is interesting to me. Is it a problem with the Adwords/doubleclick API, or just some adblock checker hack from bloomberg's side?
Eyght··on Refugees arriving in Italian town given notes to be used as local currency
The Swiss WIR system might be what you're looking for.

Eyght··on Coup attempt underway in Turkey
Venezuela's coup that ousted Chavez, and had the people reinstate him, might be a fair comparison. The returning leader will have a carte blanche for future politics.
Eyght··on A Saudi Arabia Telecom's Surveillance Pitch (2013)
It would be interesting to see how people feel about money vs. privacy. If the choice was:

1. Guaranteed employment for everyone, at middle class- or higher, living standard. But with 100% surveillance of communications and movement.

2. Privacy and democracy but with no guarantees of employment or living standard.
