Eva_Peron··on Bot wars - The arms race of restaurant reservations in SF
Cool concept. Wonder if he could write a script to land a reservation at Dorsia. I think that might be asking a bit much, even for a bot.
Eva_Peron··on Cameron ‘Porn’ Advisor’s website ‘hacked’ – Threatens/Libels Blogger
Stating the obvious, but there are MAJOR first amendment problems with trying to get ISP's to block porn sites by default. I don't see how something like this could come to a vote without major controversy. There is still such a thing as freedom of expression, last time I checked.
Eva_Peron··on House of Lords debates pardon for Alan Turing
It's about bloody time.
Eva_Peron··on "Have the robots come for the middle class?"
First they came for A, and I did not speak because I was not A. Then they came for B, and I did not speak because I was not B. Then they came for C, and I did not speak because I was not C. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.
Eva_Peron··on The worm that regrows its head, and memories, when decapitated
Herbert West, MD, is doubtless all over this one.
Eva_Peron··on ScienceGist - science in simple English
That is such a fantastic idea! I enjoy browsing science papers on the internet, especially physics, so it is very cool concept to have a site where they are boiled down into non-specialist terms. Awesome.
Eva_Peron··on Worms regrow their decapitated heads, along with the memories inside
I think one Herbert West, MD lately of Miskatonic University in Massachusetts would be particularly interested in this study.
Eva_Peron··on Ask HN: What will life on Earth be like in 2030?
I am more concerned with 2038, when the memory on time_t runs out. I plan to be stocking up on baked beans prior to then. :-)
Eva_Peron··on German Girl Turned Away at Border Due to Private Facebook Messages
Well I guess the guns and gates will still hold Nikita in. :(
Eva_Peron··on Yours in distress, Alan
Yet another giant intellect felled by the ignorant Athenian polity.
Eva_Peron··on The Bomb Didn't Beat Japan
Stalin has always been under-rated in the United States. Truth was, he was a hero who helped to defeat the Nazis and Imperial Japan. But saying that undermines those who want Churchill and FDR to take all the credit.
Eva_Peron··on My Medical Choice
Best of luck to Crash Override. You're the best!!
Eva_Peron··on Saving Detroit: When a Big City Stops Being Big
Pittsburgh has remade itself as a startup ecosystem going from a steel city to a IT startup hub. Could Detroit do the same I wonder. Manufacturing is not going to be what it used to be. Can Detroit take some of those empty buildings and turn them into startup incubators? I don't know. Maybe Enimem could invest in such a project. There is little Slim Shady could not do I should think. :-)
Eva_Peron··on Why Isn't Gatsby in the Public Domain?
Meyer Wolfsheim would never hear of it. :-)
Eva_Peron··on Rent-a-coder hilarity (2008)
I have an uncle who is a deposed King of Nigeria who will solve this problem for you for a small deposit and your bank account information. :-)
Eva_Peron··on How Al Gore Got Romney-Level Rich
Hunting Man-Bear-Pig is a profitable venture. Who knew!
Eva_Peron··on Year 2038 problem
does anyone have a start-up dedicated to solving this issue? something like an Initech for the 2038 bug? If not someone should.
Eva_Peron··on Most amazing business card ever
Beg to differ. I prefer bone background with Silian Rail font.
Eva_Peron··on Myth of the Flat Earth
Just as "equal time" for "Intelligent Design" theories is being proposed for teaching science in high school, it seems we ought to also give "equal time" for alternate theories of cosmology, including the Flat Earth theory. LOL.
Eva_Peron··on This Man Thinks He Never Has to Eat Again
They will take the soylent from his cold, dead hands! :-)
Eva_Peron··on I’m 13, and this is my first app
Good point. Positive feedback for aspiring programmers is good, but also constructive advice on improvement also is needed, or, else, as you say, if naive young people get to thinking they are the next Gates or Jobs or Zuckerberg, they might skip out on really trying to learn the fundamental skills that help to create such giants. Encouragement is always good, but a sense of realism is also helpful for helping folks to improve.
