Eddygandr··on Google Maps is a critical dependency for nutrition facts on mcdonalds.com
What are your details for 10 chicken nuggets? Are they different to mine in Sweden?

Eddygandr··on Show HN: Automate complicated manual business processes
Open source is nice. I actually find these types of tools useful in testing where you don’t have time to do a full automated suite but you need to compare data between systems
Eddygandr··on Code Llama, a state-of-the-art large language model for coding
Probably superseded (by y’all) within a week!
Eddygandr··on Code Llama, a state-of-the-art large language model for coding
Maybe confused Code Llama with Llama 2?
Eddygandr··on Show HN: Automate complicated manual business processes
Right click, open in new tab? I’m surprised if most people don’t know this
Eddygandr··on Show HN: Automate complicated manual business processes
Maybe this should be settled Musk v Zuck style for the internal tooling crown?

On a more serious note how does this compare with Retool? I remember that doing the HN rounds in 2019 and it’s still going

Eddygandr··on Leaving Haskell behind
I think this happens with experience - I’ve recently done the same after spending years chasing languages to work in
Eddygandr··on Leaving Haskell behind
Stack vs Cabal was a huge argument where I worked with multiple teams using different build tools. Add Nix and nix2whatever, and it was more fun. Spent half my time debugging build instructions
Eddygandr··on Pytudes
Thank you!
Eddygandr··on Pytudes
Etudes for Programmers is really hard to find to purchase - looks like it is around 450 USD on my local Amazon store and none in local libraries. Does anyone have a link to a PDF of it instead?
Eddygandr··on Writing a Package Manager
Thanks for the info! That would explain why I spend so much time fighting dependency errors when I upgrade something ML related ...
Eddygandr··on Modern Computer Architecture and Organization - Second Edition (2022)
I got asked to write a book by Packt as a lead author with two years experience in a junior position. This was a (badly) paid role of like 800 GBP or something. Take from that what you will...
Eddygandr··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
Not at all! Although some of them will be people like me having it on the side monitor day dreaming while they write CRUD :)
Eddygandr··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
Please please let this bring on a second space race! I want humans on Mars during my lifetime!
Eddygandr··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
SpaceX livestream much more mundane things with tens of thousands of viewers
Eddygandr··on Writing a Package Manager
I’ve heard a lot about Bazel but are there any good beginner tutorials? When I last looked it felt a little Nix-like (high learning curve to get through which I prefer to ignore for my tooling where possible)
Eddygandr··on Writing a Package Manager
Bit of a tangent here but what’s a pip/npm/cargo like package manager for C++? For example ‘pip install boost’? I’ve never worked it out for hobby projects and never worked with it commercially
Eddygandr··on FP-Go: Functional programming library for Golang
Imagine how much more productive we’d be if Kubernetes had VMMonads, and instead of yaml configs we have Kubernetes Combinators!
Eddygandr··on FP-Go: Functional programming library for Golang
Step 1: Make a beginner friendly language with minimal syntax and nice concurrency primitives.

Step 2: Add “Monoids for the Endomorphism where the `concat` operation is the usual function composition.”

Step 3: …

Step 4: Profit?

Eddygandr··on Getting a job at Apple without going to college or doing LeetCode
Didn't the guy who made Homebrew fail his interview at Google because he couldn't invert a binary tree? That's a guy who has built a popular product in the wild and can clearly code but failed because of the leetcode barrier at all IC levels.
Eddygandr··on DeepEval – Unit Testing for LLMs
I logged them as issues for you, good luck! As a test engineer it's great to see more test tooling around generative AI :)
Eddygandr··on DeepEval – Unit Testing for LLMs
The docs for this aren't great - leaked api keys, code doesn't run, etc...
Eddygandr··on DeepEval – Unit Testing for LLMs
I really dislike benchllm's use of yamls for test cases - I'd rather it be in code.

""" input: What's 1+1? Be very terse, only numeric output expected: - 2 - 2.0 """

Eddygandr··on Ask HN: I learned useless skill of prompt engineering, how relevant will it be?
I don’t think we’re at the point of Asimov’s robopsychology!
Eddygandr··on Testing on production
The problem is when you use feature flags for customer-bespoke reasons or to enable paid features. Then they’re always there and have to be tested in combinations which sucks.
Eddygandr··on Testing on production
There’s many reasons you test in production! The most recent TiP project I worked on was running a regression suite against production to notify outages before before users did (in an irregularly used but critical system, such that you can’t just go by user logs alone).
Eddygandr··on Show HN: I wrote a RDBMS (SQLite clone) from scratch in pure Python
> but with Python you'll never even know what the real thing is like

What do you mean? Surely the concepts are similar regardless of using Python or C?

Eddygandr··on I’ll never be an astronaut
> Your priorities are messed up.

They could be from a country with a lost CoL so $28k is a huge deal, they could be living the life they want doing a job they love, etc... Just so happens some future tech is interesting enough that they wish they could afford that too. Not everyone is in tech for the FAANG bucks!

Although if GP wishes they could earn more I assume any account holder on HN is technical enough to find a remote job paying more than that if they wanted.

Eddygandr··on Metro 2033 author Dmitry Glukhovsky sentenced to 8 years in prison in absentia
Oh of course, the title made me think he was already in some gulag somewhere though.
Eddygandr··on I’ll never be an astronaut
Agreed, although most companies in Oxford never really matched living costs either (well, housing costs) - Oxford Uni pay staff comparably to other companies in the area (like Elsevier or Oxford Computer Consultants). Let alone the low salaries in academia there...
