Coercive eugenics used to be a progressive platform.

More recently progressive prosecutors have been tried and the results are pretty clear they lead to increased crime.

Consider perhaps the progressive policies have been considered and rejected for good reasons.

Good art is secondary to avoiding some journalist writing a hit piece about how they used your company’s AI generator to depict Hitler saying the gamer word.

> Having NATO on the border with Russia is a recipe for disaster.

With Finland having joined NATO in 2023 there is a land border with Russia, so…

But yes, as you touch on later land invasion through Ukraine is far more a threat to Russia than invasion through Finland.

>* Very few people demonize gun ownership. They just want some laws preventing criminals from owning guns.

Don't gaslight us. Democrats have been pushing civilian disarmament HARD recently.

Restricted magazine sizes, requiring all transfers to go through a FFL, basic features bans, permits to purchase, restricting ammo purchases to FFLs raising prices, and now repeated attempts at semi-auto bans.

This isn't focused on criminals, it's trying to discourage firearm ownership in general. When states ban the federal government marksmanship program from shipping firearms to civilians AFTER they have already been background checked by a federal agency it's clear there is no attempt to stop criminals.

Wrong.

Latest research says it cuts heart disease risk and increases other risks.

Homicide is objective. Murder is unlawful homicide and therefore subjective.

I’m not sure how you can look at an America where it is largely illegal to build and claim with a straight face that anything is unrestrained.

It wasn’t on equal footing, so your entire post is based on either a misunderstanding or you’re just blatantly trolling in which case well done, I totally bit.

Duwensatzaj··on Authoritarian Coups Are Gradual Then Sudden
The empty homes are largely where people don’t want to live.

You have cause and effect completely backwards. Housing has become an investment vehicle BECAUSE it is expensive.

And it is expensive to build because government policies make it expensive to build. Safety codes, building codes making previously common types of housing illegal, environmental reviews, zoning, “affordable housing” requirements, development permit fees and delays.

I’m not saying all of those are bad but they have a cost but the legislators and bureaucrats who impose them don’t have to pay them.

Duwensatzaj··on UK's hardware talent is being wasted
Google’s not pulling it up but I swear I read about police visitations for immigration criticism that didn’t involve calls for murder or arson.

The UK arrests people for writing the n-word on Twitter https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/black-twitter-ra... or praying silently near abortion clinics. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g9kp7r00vo so it’s not exactly a stretch.

Duwensatzaj··on Fascists and Rakes (2014)
Rational fear of a crime being committed? I'd struggle to call that emotional harm. I might not be upset about a threat, but still respond to it by changing my behavior or actions, and for various reasons society wants to discourage people from using the threat of initiated force in most situations.
Duwensatzaj··on Fascists and Rakes (2014)
I don't think you need to treat emotional harm as harm when you can criminalize credible threats or harassment (repeated unwanted personal contact after being told to stop).

There is the tort of outrage or "Intentional infliction of emotional distress" which does treat emotional harm as harm that can be recovered against in a civil case, but it's controversial, hard to prove and limited in scope.

> Oh, and legalizing weed didn't do jack shit about dealers selling weed

This isn’t universal. Oregon estimates roughly 80% of marijuana purchases are through legal sources nowadays.

The real issue the state sees now is apparently illegal grow farms to supply other states that haven’t legalized or where the taxes are too high.

>rent price fixing RealPage leads to faster rent drops when the economy is slow. It makes price discovery easier for landlords.

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4403058

Key quote: “ We find strong evidence that algorithmic pricing helps building managers set prices that are more responsive to market conditions, with adopters lowering rents more rapidly than non-adopters during economic downturns.”

The claim that RealPage leads to price fixing reminds me of the claim that inflation is happening due to corporate greed.
