Dragonai··on How often do people copy and paste from Stack Overflow?
Thanks for sharing this!
Dragonai··on jQuery 3.6.0
That's pretty neat. Thanks for the link.

There's some great information here. Thanks so much for sharing!
Dragonai··on Ask HN: Advice for finding an entry-level remote job?
Absolutely love this. Proof that opportunity is everywhere. Congratulations on an awesome success story!
Dragonai··on Ask HN: What is the oldest image online in which the link is not broken?
This is hilarious, thanks so much for sharing. Very funny halfway-legitimate approach to cybersquatting.
Dragonai··on Dropbox saved $75M over two years by building its own infrastructure (2018)
That's objectively still a lot of money that can pay for a lot of things.
Dragonai··on Ask HN: What is the best money you have spent on professional development?
> Telling Eric Schmidt (while at Google) to "go fuck yourself" and walk out the door to never return was the most empowering thing I have ever done.

You can't mention this and not tell the full story. You know what you were doing here :)

Dragonai··on Airbnb S-1
I'd also like to add that Airbnb has become a pretty widely adopted verb. Once a brand becomes a verb, overtaking and unseating that degree of brand recognition becomes a feat that I can't recall has ever been done before.
Dragonai··on DoorDash S-1
This thread has been really informative, thank you for your comment in particular! This tidbit is fascinating.
Dragonai··on Ask HN: What are the most fun-to-play-with open source deep learning projects?
Nice writeup!
Dragonai··on When you browse Instagram and find Tony Abbott's passport number
This was the line that made me audibly laugh. Couldn't not finish the article after that. Great read.
Dragonai··on I lost €4k in a Facebook scam
This is too funny. Thanks for sharing!
Dragonai··on Planet Ceres is an 'ocean world' with sea water beneath surface, mission finds
Terrific comment. Thank you so much for the excellent explanation!
Dragonai··on Being Alone
> I think I would say we project different aspects of ourselves into lower dimensions (thoughts and words) depending on the transformation function (context into which we are projecting ourselves).

Such a great way to articulate this. This is why I love HN.

Dragonai··on Being Alone
Loved the essay. You captured a lot of specific sentiments and emotional instances that I was pleasantly surprised to read because I related to them so deeply. Thanks so much for the piece!
Dragonai··on Ask HN: How did you fix your narcissism?
Thanks so much for linking this - for a long time, I've been observing all of these various types of responses in the conversations I've had over the years, but never consciously named/categorized them to this extent. I've only ever mentally filed away bits and pieces about correlations between someone's responses and their personality. I really like how this article breaks it down.
Dragonai··on How Popular Is “Sign in with Apple”?
Here's a link for ya:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210318

In essence, Apple generates a unique email address through their relay service that forwards to (and thus hides) your actual email address. It was widely considered a pretty major step in the right direction for user privacy.

Dragonai··on What happened to Mint?
This is hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
Dragonai··on Congressman's phone password is 111111
Comments like the parent comment never fail to fascinate me - far and away, I have never seen more uncommon/unusual use cases for pretty much anything than I do on Hacker News. I don't mean that in a negative way at all, I mean it's just amazing how diverse a crowd we have on here and I love how many perspectives we end up seeing in the comments.
Dragonai··on The one who kept VLC free
Thank you for everything.
Dragonai··on The video game industry can't go on like this
By "don't have sales" maushu meant the company doesn't run discounts on the game :)
Dragonai··on The Battle to Separate Safa and Marwa
Incredibly touching piece, and an astounding display of expertise and skill by the doctors. I found the photo of Rital and Ritaj holding hands while still conjoined particularly moving. Thanks so much for sharing!
Dragonai··on Google Calendar Is Down
Nah, you're remembering correctly, this happened. The failure icon was hosted on S3, but S3 was down. It was a great moment.

Here's their tweet about it: https://twitter.com/awscloud/status/836656664635846656

Dragonai··on Ask HN: Are you put off building something because it already exists?
Love this advice. Thanks so much for sharing!
Dragonai··on American Employers Are Hung Up on Hiring PhDs
I like this characterization a lot. Thank you!
Dragonai··on Bungie departs from Activision
I love seeing Oni mentioned in discussions about Bungie. It's always held a special place in my heart.

Did you ever check out the Anniversary Edition mod? It's a massive community-made enhancement to the base game that adds a ton of fixes alongside a really dope mod framework. The reason I bring this up is because it allows for stuff like Oni Team Arena[0], a fake multiplayer mode that lets you basically play team deathmatch with bots. It's super fun and when I first played it, it breathed a whole new life into the game for me.

Dragonai··on Ask HN: How did you decide what problems to solve in your lifetime?
This is actually a project I was looking to take on myself! I love preserving my family's history (photos, stories, memories) and it's very important to me. I'd like to develop some sort of central collection of everything that my entire extended family can peruse, and that the future generations of my family can maintain and update. I'd love to know what you're working on in that space. Mind sharing? :)
Dragonai··on Ask HN: How to incorporate machine learning into day job?
This is a great idea for a simple application of ML. Thanks for the tip!
Dragonai··on Apple Launches Portal for U.S. Users to Download Their Data
Many people have commented on this, and the response I typically see (and which makes sense to me) is that Apple makes so much money from their products that they don't need to collect and monetize detailed user data (unlike Facebook, Google, et al.) and can easily afford to come to the user's defense and protection in that realm.
Dragonai··on Mmm, Pi-hole
Just as a note, a project being open-source doesn't necessarily provide a 100% guarantee that it doesn't contain any (possibly obfuscated) malicious code. Our community likes to think that someone else would catch it, but enough people thinking that way can (and likely often does) lead to the bystander effect. So it's always good to be wary :)

Edit: Heartbleed was a good example of this -

https://www.csoonline.com/article/3223203/vulnerabilities/wh...

> The most ironic thing here is that OpenSSL is open source software. Anyone could look at the code, and presumably hundreds did, but nobody noticed the fairly elementary coding error.
