In short, high density housing, apartments. Not everyone wants to rent a little apartment the rest of their lives, particularly with the incredible limitations they bring with what you can do at home. There's a whole world out there that apartment dwellers can't participate in, and most people would prefer not to live in an apartment if given the choice and the financial means.

Welcome to Microsoft.
DrReachAround··on Google opens Falcon, a reliable low-latency hardware transport, to the ecosystem
I'm confused by this because we've been using Falcon at work for over a year now, perhaps longer, as I just started a year ago. What are they making available that wasn't already?
DrReachAround··on Show HN: Tell YouTube Ads to Fuck Off
It's not "so expensive". It's a couple of cups of coffee from Starbucks, for 720 hours of content per month per person. Even if you factor in 8 hours a day of sleep you could watch it for 16 hours per day per person for one low price. That's about US$0.01 per hour.
DrReachAround··on Show HN: Tell YouTube Ads to Fuck Off
Sure, they could charge you per view, which is being done indirectly now through ads. You're not entitled to free content no matter how much you think you are.

I presume this means you're now pirating. If so, then you've admitted you're a criminal. Nice work. If not, the what are you using your NAS for? Purchased content like I am?
DrReachAround··on Show HN: Tell YouTube Ads to Fuck Off
I presume you like to get paid to do your job. I'm a bit miffed at that.
DrReachAround··on Wales' 20mph speed limit: How has the first month gone?
That sounds absolutely miserable. You can do 18 by taking your foot off the brake.
DrReachAround··on Leaked Microsoft pay guidelines – salary, hiring bonus, stock awards by level
The downside is you have to put up with Microsoft's ineptitude. I was on a Microsoft project for about 6 months and it was a terrible experience. Everyone was out for themselves, asking questions was treated as an annoyance. Condescension at every turn. It was a small team and perhaps not representative of all of Microsoft, but it was a bad enough experience that I'd never consider working there in any capacity.
DrReachAround··on California to require firms to reveal carbon emissions in first law of its kind
This is going to cost billions to implement and enforce. Companies will have to hire large departments of people, including outside consultants, to manage it all. Expect higher prices to cover the cost.
DrReachAround··on If the Economy Is So Strong, Why Are Consumer Stocks Tanking?
Since 1968, 77 million housing units have been completed in the US. At 2.5 people per household, that's enough for 190 million people. The US population has increased 133 million over that time. We have plenty of housing.
DrReachAround··on If the Economy Is So Strong, Why Are Consumer Stocks Tanking?
The average home size in Tokyo is 60 square meters, that's 645 square feet. That's called a one room studio apartment in the US. I don't personally know anyone that wants to live in a box like that, except maybe single people just out of college with little income.
DrReachAround··on If the Economy Is So Strong, Why Are Consumer Stocks Tanking?
This is absolutely false. Since 1968, 77 million housing units have been been built in the US. Assuming 2.5 people per household, today's average, that's enough for 190 million people. US population has increase 133 million since 1968. We have plenty of housing. It may just not be where you want to live and the type of housing want at the price you want. But no one is guaranteed any of those and shouldn't be.

If you want to understand the housing price problem, look no further than the irresponsible monetary policies of the last 20 years.

Simply looking at median house prices to median household income we can clearly see the impacts to housing prices from the stimulus following the dotcom bust, the stimulus following the housing bust, and the stimulus from the pandemic. Hint, they're the big upward slopes.

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/?g=1adYW

Take away the irresponsible and unnecessary stimulus and you have a reasonable housing market at 4x income, not 6x.
