DoubleCluster··on Obscure kernel settings to increase performance of Linux TCP servers
Thanks, very interesting!
DoubleCluster··on Show HN: I want to give people surprisingly awesome book recommendations
Why do I need to sign up? The "You are just a few clicks away from..." shows me that you don't have my best interests in mind. Please let me pick three books, provide a recommendation and then offer me to create an account.

Now I'm going to close my browser, get some sleep and completely forget about your supposedly awesome book recommendations.

DoubleCluster··on Intel Anti-Theft, A Big No-No
Preinstalled McAfee crapware, what did you expect? I understand manufacturers get some money for putting that shit on the computer before they sell it, but it really diminishes the value of their product.
DoubleCluster··on Show HN : Hackathons are dead. Introducing Code in the Dark.
Agreed, and it's not coding, it's not creative. This will be the most boring event ever.
DoubleCluster··on DuckDuckGo: illusion of privacy?
Thus article states that the NSA will get the information anyway. Even if this is true it may be a good thing to choose a search engine that makes a point of at least not tracking you itself. Sadly Google has much better search results...
DoubleCluster··on VoodooJS – Mix 2D and 3D content on the same page
The tree looks cool. If this catches on I might finally buy a 3d monitor just to browse the web ;)
DoubleCluster··on Find Cities with Similar Climates
If you can't find any cities how are you going to evaluate the rest of the features? I'm not going to play "guess the city".
DoubleCluster··on Ask HN - I just left my job today and I'm really confused. Need urgent advice
It's best practice to immediately lock someone out from all accounts if they are leaving on bad terms. You don't want them to be sending nasty emails to customers or to delete company data. It almost never happens but sometimes someone snaps and creates a big mess.

You should come and maybe bring something nice for the people you enjoyed working with. Make sure you have a talk with the project managers boss and tell him why you are leaving. Furthermore you should act professional so don't involve your colleagues. It's nasty but it's between you, him and his boss. Your colleagues will figure it out anyway.

Best of luck finding a new job!

Great product!

DoubleCluster··on Russian Proton Rocket crashes Seconds after Launch
Wow. The rocket exploded about 3 km from the guy filming it (from the speed of sound). It could have landed on his head...
DoubleCluster··on Poll: What is your primary programming language?
(Smart)GWT makes this possible with Java. I like my languages for big projects strict and unforgiving ;)
DoubleCluster··on Poll: What is your primary programming language?
Wow, lots of python. I use it quite a bit too but mainly for scripting. What are you guys using it for?
DoubleCluster··on NSA: we can warrantlessly grab your data and keep it forever if encrypted
If your data isn't safe when someone has access to it "forever" then you haven't encrypted it good enough. I'd still prefer them not to keep it though.
DoubleCluster··on The sleeping bag that charges your phone while you sleep
Exactly, this makes the sleeping bag less comfortable. It doesn't actually pump the heat though, it flows from hot to cold on it's own. It's actually like a turbine that turns the flow into electricity.
DoubleCluster··on Twitter vs female protagonists in video games
Yep, stupid people exist. There are a lot of them actually. What was your point again?
DoubleCluster··on obamaischeckingyouremail.tumblr.com
This is the best one: http://obamaischeckingyouremail.tumblr.com/image/52498105224
DoubleCluster··on Sen. Mark Udall: I knew about the NSA spying, did everything but leak to stop it
... all Cases, except Treason ...
DoubleCluster··on Belgian woman blindly drove 900 miles across Europe due to broken GPS
Yep, feels like early stage dementia to me. Quite a sad story.
DoubleCluster··on Increase Leads by A/B testing your live chat software (with Math explanation)
Instead of boring A/B testing, let's discuss these "live chat widgets". Does anyone here actually use these? I consider them annoying popups and rather send an email if I have any questions.
DoubleCluster··on Google bans porn on Google Glass
How do you ban something on an open platform? Ah...
DoubleCluster··on A minimalist approach to washing the dishes
My sink is dirty, but my work is clean.
DoubleCluster··on Ifs and &&s and Plan 9's Source Code
Great, now add an "else".
DoubleCluster··on Announcing UnQLite: An Embeddable NoSQL(Key/Value + Document store) Database
Couldn't you just use sqlite with blobs? Or, you know, use files?
DoubleCluster··on What if Enterprise IT built a race car?
That looks like normal software development to me. Enterprise IT just involves more people, money and time.
DoubleCluster··on Show HN: run-after
So it's a limited (buggy?) version of "at"? What's the use case for this? A demonstration of "english-time"?
DoubleCluster··on What Europeans think of each other
What a worthless article. Better read the original research here: http://www.pewglobal.org/2013/05/13/the-new-sick-man-of-euro...

On page 6 they detail the sample sizes (around 600 people from each country).

DoubleCluster··on Turing Drawings
The ascension of the lines: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#10,3,0,1,2,7,2,3,3,2,...

Wavy lines slowly move upwards, some disappear over time.

DoubleCluster··on Changing Your SSH Port Does Lower Your Risk
Sure it does. It does make your life more annoying as you have to specify the port every time (and you have to remember it). Some software/firewalls/proxy servers may have trouble with the nonstandard port. If all that is not a problem then go ahead.

Another very nice trick to hide a service is port knocking.

DoubleCluster··on Show HN: Latest side project, a poetry app that suggests rhymes as you type
Looks good, but an online version to try it out would be nice. I'm not going to write a poem on my phone (and I've got an android phone).
