Domark··on Ask HN: Has anyone on HN ever successfully arbitraged eBay?
Desperately trying to buy and resell at a higher price? That would require some poor third party sap to pay more, right?

Sounds sad.

Domark··on Deactivated Facebook with 2FA, now can't reactivat and 2FA doesn't work
Contact facebook for help with their service.
Domark··on Ask HN: Is there any money in website design for small businesses anymore?
Is this a joke? Of course there are ways to run successful business nowadays like Web Design. Here's an example: https://www.bluecompass.com

Seriously, these types of "Ask HN" seem like trolling. How can people be this ignorant? Is it lack of schooling? Lack of parenting?

Domark··on MakeCode Arcade: Retro Gaming, Modern Programming
Why the downgraded graphics obsession?

As an artist, I want my games to be 1080p with unlimited colors and animation. These old systems don’t work.

Pixel art looks like stitching. When will everyone grow up?

Domark··on Blowing the Dust Off of an IBM AS/400 Server
Des Moines is roughly the size of Bloomington, MN.
Domark··on A decade-long boom is ending as consumers hang on to devices for longer
Cycles go up and down. Good luck trying to prevent that. Best to plan for downturns and upturns.
Domark··on Making a Game Boy Game. Part 1: Getting Started
For me I do it this way: 1. Get a sprite system, audio, sfx, save state, game loop solution going for the platform (GBC). Usually something is available like Cocos.

2. Create the game! Sprites, animations, sounds, game code for all parts.

Then I test play, and iterate until it’s ready to share.

Starting from scratch like this website is like starting from step zero, not step one.

Domark··on Great Pacific garbage patch cleanup fails to collect plastic
He’s pointing out a scam.

You might not believe it’s a scam, but it’s a valid opinion.

Maybe try moderating HN if you don’t like the quality of the posts. Up voting and down voting is cute but it’s not moderation.

Domark··on We should replace Facebook with personal websites
Nice blog post at vice.com! That’s all this is.

Facebook posts my content using a template. Wordpress could do the same thing, but it’s missing Friends.

So we need a personal site with Friends. Looks like Facebook works for that.

Discord is the only other app I have with Friends list.

Domark··on Show HN: Analysis of 2018 Hacker News “Who Is Hiring” Job Posts
I applied to matching jobs for three months about five years ago. Also did the same earlier this year for three months.

My advice: skip this site and weworkremotely.com. Both are complete wastes of time based on the responses.

If you’re in IT, your best bet is LinkedIn (for a referral) or Careerbuilder/Dice/Indeed. At least those will result in face to face interviews.

Also find companies you like and apply directly on their website.

Domark··on Will it be snowy holidays in your region?
No, yes, no, yes, no, yes. Why would there be snow in Australian summer?
Domark··on Virgin Galactic successfully reaches space
For customers who want to see the edge of space, your solution provides zero value.

Being weightless can be accomplished on any rollercoaster, a fraction of a fraction of what you are proposing, with no view of space!

Funny to see this as the top comment when it’s so off base.

Domark··on The Titanic Was on Fire for Days Before the Iceberg Hit
Except the site specifically tries to debunk incorrect narratives.
Domark··on Ask HN: If you woke up tomorrow and it is 18th century, what would you do?
I’d roll out the cotton gin!
Domark··on State of web browsers in 2018
This blog post was tough to read! Seems to have capped out at a 6th grade level.

Re: the topic, the author shows clear bias toward Firefox. It might be better to just acknowledge this: the best browser wins on each platform. Period.

Safari is up there because it runs the best/fastest/with least trouble on iPhones and iPads.

20/20 means PERFECT vision. Above that is ‘abnormally good’.

In other words, the author has a clearly biased view, tries to figure out the obvious, and doesn’t ‘agree’ with definitions for words. Right!

Domark··on Dear Tumblr: Banning “Adult Content” Will Harm Sex-Positive Communities
Translation for non-millenials: It’s become a joke.
Domark··on Flying for Thanksgiving
It’s a shame you’ll miss the festival travelling!

To each his/her own.

Domark··on Flying for Thanksgiving
It’s the thought that counts.
Domark··on Why affordable housing is scarce in progressive cities
The problem is, I've been hearing about these problems since I lived there in 1995.

1995 would have given an intelligent species enough time to build a money-losing, poor-people housing skyscraper or two. Yes building vertically in crowded places is a challenge and expensive but those are just excuses.

Since 1995 they could have figured out a way to get the job done, so now we have to examine what the problems are.

Domark··on Unscii – a bitmapped Unicode font for blocky graphics
The BBS ANSI scene was fun, but then we moved to Photoshop. Now it’s fun to work with Retina level graphics! And the tools now... I love Lightwave.

So it’s always been peculiar that some are attached to this particular style. Then I noticed a bit of it is quite explicit or just nasty, and the art style complements the restricted artistic method ANSI provides.

Also since I associate it with my youth, it just seems so immature. That’s obviously my personal bias.

Domark··on Ask HN: Knowing what we know about Facebook, why do you still have an account?
Facebook is just another website. Sure it has problems, but it’s super handy for keeping up with a ‘distributed’ family across the globe.

What are you fishing for?

Domark··on An error message, still found in Windows 10, is a mistake from 1974

Domark··on Atari Asteroids: Creating a Vector Arcade Classic
When I was a kid, my parents would drop my off at a daycare called Kids Time Out.

This was the early 80s and they had a cocktail version of Asteroids. I mastered it! I could play it all day!

One of my favorites to this day, along with Gauntlet, STUN Runner and VR Racing/Daytona USA.
