DoItToMe81··on U.S. Failed to Stop Drone Attack Because of Identification Mixup
I find it very odd that Americans seem to not be able to understand how a highly nationalist people may object to them staying past their welcome date and seek to attack them on their own accord, and that most of these groups existed well before acquiring Iranian funding.

Most Iraqis still remember tragedies like the Mahmudiyah massacre. The government of the time took them into account and promised to have American bases closed, but reneged. I think you can see how events like that being rampant might drive people to fight, even a generation later.

DoItToMe81··on "If nothing changes, all remaining Nitter instances will go down eventually"
Kiwifarms is an absurdly slandered e-gossip forum. poast is a rival community. The poster has no clue who runs what.
DoItToMe81··on Ukrainian Drones Are Burning Down Russia's Oil and Gas Industry
This seems like a wunderwaffen propaganda narrative, just like the Javelins that will end the war. Ukraine is failing. All of its major offensives have failed. It will continue to fail as the Gazan conflict has soaked up its primary source of armaments.

Russia is not a competent state. It's rife with corruption and skimming that will make the response to this heavily delayed. But what the article neglects to mention is that, in spite of this, Ust-Luga was repaired and reopened only a few days later, with Novatek resuming fuel loadings.

DoItToMe81··on Improbable Island, one of the largest and longest-running online text adventures
The code of conduct immediately made me realize that this place will be cliquey and run by rules lawyers who take delight in making a billion subcategories for the sake of empowering themselves to ban. I've never seen an instance where this was not the case.

Anything that needs to write paragraph after paragraph for what could be summarized in 4 to 8 rules, especially with weird, no doubt completely irrelevant to the game itself "DRUMPF GAMERGATE VACCINE" clauses on top of that, is not something anybody who values their time should involve themselves in.

DoItToMe81··on Right to Repair: The Price Is Not Right
Yeah, no. The industry intentionally making repairs impossible or excessively costly is absolutely an industry problem. Apple is especially responsible for this. Replacing parts on various iPhones will disable a whole slew of features depending on the part and model, which has nothing at all to do with "consumers not wanting to repair"
DoItToMe81··on Sharing deepfake porn could lead to lengthy prison time under proposed law
It's already covered by multiple harassment laws, defamation laws and possibly revenge porn laws depending on your state. When you see a redundant bill like this, expect it to be a trojan horse for something that might not be justifiable otherwise.
DoItToMe81··on Nitter.net has disappeared
Doubt it was a legal request. Njalla shoots first and asks questions later if there's any risk of controversy.
DoItToMe81··on Nitter.net has disappeared
Njalla is, sadly, garbage. It is a disgrace to the legacy of The Pirate Bay. I've heard horror stories of domains being stolen, without possibility of transfer, over fake reports.
DoItToMe81··on Europe buying Russian oil via India at record rates in 2023 despite Ukraine war
Gaza is faaaaaar more indicting than Ukraine. They can't replace Russian oil, and the alternative to buying it, as we were shown last year, is letting people freeze.
DoItToMe81··on Israeli group claims it’s using back channels to censor “inflammatory” content
There is a network of pro-Israel and even Israeli government affiliated corporations and NGOs that successfully lobby for extreme censorship and social restrictions, such as a ban on sharing and even viewing all Gaza war footage in Australia, and the numerous anti-boycott and anti-organization rules across government organizations in 30+ American states.

Even if it can't be confirmed as of yet, I have no doubt that they are working on or have actually achieved the connections to make this possible.

DoItToMe81··on Don't Say Velcro (2017)
Genericide is the funniest myth copyright enforcement agencies ever invented. Common use has not "genericided" anything after the 50s except for intentionally litigious naming ("flip phone") or things comprised of hypergeneric terms like videotape. Kleenex and Hoover have not lost their trademarks despite widespread generic use by millions.
DoItToMe81··on To stem North Korea's missiles program, White House looks to its hackers
NK has its internet access from NK. They have had telecomms infrastructure for over a decade and the intranet restrictions don't apply to researchers and the elite.
DoItToMe81··on Lapsus$: GTA 6 hacker handed indefinite hospital order
Each hack was going into a company Slack server and saying "hell o i am the admin gibe me password". I'm not impressed.
DoItToMe81··on Australia to ban engineered stone
People are dying slow, painful and horrific deaths because fines have not worked to dissuade these companies. Bans are the only option left.
DoItToMe81··on The New Godot Forum
That's disappointing. Discourse is hideous, badly organized and the design around infinite scrolling very much contradicts the easy categorization in other forum software.
DoItToMe81··on Microsoft Will Eventually Start Charging You for Windows 10 Security Updates
Because it strips out features, adds garbage in its place, and increasingly aggressively acts against powerusers. 10 and beyond are "good" as long as you don't go out of the tiny box of intended use.

I have never, ever seen another OS so intent on resetting my settings and reverting what I've installed. I even had a case where Windows Defender was removing cracked software even after being disabled.

DoItToMe81··on Godot 4.2 Released
Is support for webgames/HTML5 fully re-added yet? It's hard to tell, as few things have been announced on it, and the lack of webgame questions on the forum about 4.x is not reassuring.
DoItToMe81··on As Democrats push to ban caste discrimination, some Indian Americans object
Caste discrimination is insanely prevalent. Every workplace I've been in that has had Indian workers has had some form of it. Very often it has been serious and skilled people have been denied the positions they should be in because they "need to stay in their station".
DoItToMe81··on PeerTube v6
Peertube takes under twenty minutes to set up. It's really, really not hard.
DoItToMe81··on The blender.org servers are experiencing a DDoS attack since last weekend
It's a neutral or endearing term pretty much anywhere in the country outside of places with too many gated communities and golf courses. You'll find more people (maybe enough to count on one hand) feigning offence than people actually being offended.

I call my friends cunts, they call me cunt, strangers call me cunt. It's vulgar, but vulgar and offensive are two different things.

DoItToMe81··on The Great Sphinx of Giza may have have started out as a natural formation
We do know how the vast majority of these artifacts were made, though. Most of the people "just asking questions" are ignorant of craftsmanship and historical achievements, whereas the 'academics' are not.

Quartz and diorite are harder than granite. Quartz sand abrasion, hand drills utilizing quartz, diorite smoothing tools and melting with hot coals are all techniques recorded by the Egyptians, and have been reperformed by scientists and engineers with similar results.

UnchartedX is run by absolute whackjobs who believe an ancient super civilization, despite no iron, no lithium, no artifacts indicating use of electricity, milled these hand crafts with computer guided drills. It's even dumber than ancient aliens, because at least aliens could take the evidence of their existence with them.

DoItToMe81··on Afghan opium poppy cultivation plunges by 95 percent under Taliban: UN
I can't believe these evil, evil people hate an industry that operates on mass addiction and suffering. These vicious brutes exterminated the poor opium farmers by giving them opportunities to grow food crops.
DoItToMe81··on Omegle Was Forced to Shut Down by a Lawsuit from a Sexual Abuse Survivor
Omegle's video chat had an overzealous AI that would ban you if you showed too many skin coloured pixels for years, and actively cooperated with global law enforcement and the Centre for Missing/Exploited Children. The idea that they just allowed their site to be flooded with predators and went "Eh, we're making money" is wrong and borderline slanderous.
DoItToMe81··on Omegle 2009-2023
He implemented algorithms to automatically time out people who were mentioning a variety of rapey terms and paid moderators and built AI algorithms to (mostly successfully) wipe out the rampant sex pest behavior in video chats.

He did about the best job you can do without a team that costs tens of millions of dollars, and the result was being sued and accused of being a pedophile.

DoItToMe81··on UK plans to redefine extremism to include undermining the country
Many Anglo nations, not just the UK, but also Australia and to a lesser extent, Canada, have had a terrifying shift into authoritarianism through these means, where crimes have clauses denying due process and laws are written in such a way as to be open to interpretation and use of arbitrary punishment.
DoItToMe81··on UK passport images database could be used to catch shoplifters
The police have been subject to raiding of funds and budget cuts every election for the last twenty years. Rubbing salt into the wound by creating the capability for severe overreach is not the solution.
DoItToMe81··on EU tells Apple to open everything up to its rivals
A phone is not a game console, and the opening of the hardware would be good either way.
DoItToMe81··on LARPing and Violent Extremism
They don't have a page because they don't make the distinction. And, generally, once they're called in, have the idea of securing a conviction at any cost.
DoItToMe81··on Gen Z falls for online scams more than their boomer grandparents do
Probably an aspect for some, but the drop in tech literacy is also a thing among people who pay no attention to 'hustle culture'. I suspect the endless coddling by walled gardens has more to do with it.
DoItToMe81··on India suspends visas for Canadians as row escalates
They do, when they view themselves as in immediate danger. They killed Ibn Al-Khattab by bribing his courier into delivering him a letter laced with nerve agent.
