DnDGrognard··on Kentucky candle factory: questions arise over why staff worked during tornadoes
Probably should not have "trailer parks" in a tornado zone - in any event a trailer park could have tornado shelters.
DnDGrognard··on Researchers find a treatable indicator of blood clotting in Covid patients
Well I am on aspirin and when I got Covid in october (whilst in hospital for something else) my case was rather mild
DnDGrognard··on Researchers find a treatable indicator of blood clotting in Covid patients
When I have been in hospital (UK) I was given heparin anyway this seems to be SOP for the NHS

But they are not all in the same building which reduces the risk collectively.
DnDGrognard··on Americans are rethinking where they want to live
I suspect what you have will quickly built flats (apartments) that are targeted as investments
DnDGrognard··on Hydrogen Is Not a Fuel, It’s a Cult
You don't have to drown entire valleys and their communities to build gasometers.
DnDGrognard··on The CIA and the Media (1977)
His boss during Watergate was a mate of Angleton and had been kicked out of I believe France
DnDGrognard··on FAQs: Why we don’t have them (2013)
Yes its good once your on the site but not having structured data FAQ's means your not targeting search.

Also looking at FAQ and PAA data does give insight into searches that your not providing information to your users - which you can quickly solve by adding FAQ's

Just blindly assuming that users will automatically know to go direct to the relevant .gov site is typical Civil Service Arrogance.

DnDGrognard··on FAQs: Why we don’t have them (2013)
Have you actually used Google recently? the FAQ and PAA results are what you would want to target with faq pages.

FAQ's and its mark-up are about the search experience and not once the user has landed on the site eg for searches like "renew car licence online"

DnDGrognard··on FAQs: Why we don’t have them (2013)
You do know that search engines look for and surface a sites marked up FAQ's - by not having a FAQ your giving up that space possibly to a bad actor in the case of Government sites.
DnDGrognard··on FAQs: Why we don’t have them (2013)
Someone doesn't understand how google works these days - sounds like an excuse for not putting the work in.
DnDGrognard··on Better.com CEO fires 900 employees on Zoom call
Abide by the WARN act for one
DnDGrognard··on Better.com CEO fires 900 employees on Zoom call
A few years ago a German telco company did that to their uk subsidiary:

1 First made the uk subsidiary bankrupt and went into administration

2 Called every one to a mass meeting said your redundant

3 oh there's no £ - pick up the RB2 form to claim statutory redundancy from the UK tax payer.

DnDGrognard··on Better.com CEO fires 900 employees on Zoom call
The CEO doesn't really pass the "fit and proper person" test does He
DnDGrognard··on Better.com CEO fires 900 employees on Zoom call
For large US companies there are rules (Warn Act) about how you make people redundant
DnDGrognard··on Even with Agile and Scrum waterfall will sneak in
Exactly each waterfall phase has its own iteration loop
DnDGrognard··on Movie dialogue has gotten more difficult to understand
As some one originally from Birmingham I found the accents in peaky blinders oddly relaxing.

Though I could see full "yam yam" being hard - that's the rural dialect from the black country.

DnDGrognard··on Movie dialogue has gotten more difficult to understand
Does have a down side if you move production to Wales / Scotland etc you don't have many BAME Actors and Technical Staff.
DnDGrognard··on Twitter photo-removal policy aimed at improving privacy goes into effect
I can think of one UK MP who would try to abuse this.
DnDGrognard··on Father-son duo helped techies ‘hack exams’, earn top scores for big payday
I did the college CNNA courses and one test was to fix a broken network (using real hardware).

There is no substitute for hands on with real hardware.

DnDGrognard··on Accepted and ghosted: interviewing for a leadership position at Stripe
So they breached a verbal contract here?
DnDGrognard··on Workers quit jobs in droves to become their own bosses
But from a UK perspective the premium in the USA for contracting like this is rather low - and you pay both sides of the SS tax.
DnDGrognard··on Ask HN: Did you find something to use your Raspberry Pi 400 for?
Having everything in one place does help - the traditional pis have so many cables and are prone to being flung off the desk.
DnDGrognard··on Ask HN: Tips on Sysadmin Job
Re Laptop make sure you have one that has a serial port and all the custom cables to plug into the switches / routers etc. (possibly having a second laptop for redundancy)

And seconding the physical logbook.

DnDGrognard··on Ask HN: Tips on Sysadmin Job
I would add 15 start keeping a physical log book to document changes.

Dependant on what you have to look after you might want more than one book.

DnDGrognard··on Wander (1974) – a lost mainframe game is found (2015)
The PDP range where Mini computers not Mainframes - the only mainframe class systems DEC had where the DECSYSTEM-20 / 10.
DnDGrognard··on Individuals Matter
Not when I have done waterfall - each waterfall phase can iterate
DnDGrognard··on Google Outage in Europe
It's the same at all large companies - its CYA boiler plate.

Though I almost got to be the official spokesperson for British Telecom responding on the alt.2600 news group about the the Met police VMB hack - press office was cool but the internal security was not.

DnDGrognard··on Unsafe at Any Speed
That's pretty common in other countries - there's loads of Chelsea tractors (SUVS and 4wd) used on the school run in the UK for the height and perceived safety.
DnDGrognard··on I'm “still afraid to use spaces in file names” years old
I had a really odd one last year where a Grave I ( well known brand name) got converted by office/excell into a Double Grave I.

The double grave I is used by some obscure orthodox religionious texts
