Djrichsjdjdnxkd··on Just say something people want
There is nothing wrong with the post per se, but it's Marketing 101.

If it seems new, I suggest hunkering down with a marketing textbook on a weekend.

My analogy for marketing is this:

CS = human needs and wants. They are foundational building blocks of that don't change much.

Programming = marketing tactics. They change depending on ecosystem, talent, timelines, etc.

I don't know any marketer that would pitch "composable OS fabric." Actually, I do...it's when a marketer/agency has failed to convince stakeholders how to talk to their audience.

Sometimes that is because the marketer/agency sucks. Or some combination of the founder/company being somewhere on the spectrum of hating marketing and not understanding marketing.

Djrichsjdjdnxkd··on Focus
Anecdote, I know plenty of people who use FB exclusively for private and secret groups. The ability to require approval before approving (tied to looking up the profiles of people applying) while still allowing members to ask questions anonymously within the group (like maybe for health advice), moderation, some basic administrative roles, event invites / rsvp, discoverability by location (new mom club around me).

Not like any of these features are particularly good, but the combination beats anything else out there, which is surprising because usage of groups seems to be huge.

Discord comes close, but the complaint I see from FB group users is they don't like the real-time chat stream.

Funny, the video is on a service of the biggest advertiser in the world.

She touches on the main problem but most everyone here seems to miss.

Marketers exist because every company, every VC, and every stock holder (Wall St. and every person that has money invested for retirement or to pay for their kids college tuition, etc), demands perpetual growth. Till this changes, and it won't any time soon, marketers will exist.

No one is working on changing that. Anyone?

Startups are the worst. No one is hiring a marketer at a startup to drive 25% yearly revenue growth, the expectation is 10X or 100X. How is that supposed to happen without pushing advertising, hard?

We can blame the marketers, but this is structural problem.

Djrichsjdjdnxkd··on 20-Person Startup, 30 SaaS Services, and $1,183 Monthly Bill
I’m probably too slow to understand, but is this basically humblebrag?

Obviously the salaries of 20 employees is many magnitudes larger than a startups monthly SaaS tool bills.

What am I missing here?
