DerArzt··on 'This Is Just Not How the Human Race Should Operate,' Says US Senator
Why does America need to act as world the world police? America's interventionism is a big part of what has lead to the current Iran Government.
DerArzt··on 81yo Dodgers fan can no longer get tickets because he doesn't have a smartphone
At this point couldn't we have all tickets be printed with a QR code that is used to look up if it's a valid ticket or not (if you have the QR code you have the ticket)? I don't get why forgary would be a thing if the ticket ID's were GUIDs or something else that you can't brute force while physically in line at the event.

The real reason, I fear, that we need the apps is data harvesting to be sold to data brokers.

DerArzt··on How a British father and son made a fortune in Dubai then became wanted men
I find it hard to feel sorry for these people that emigrate to a place like Dubai and they are crying when they realize how it's a different culture with different rules than their old country.

By no means do I like what happened to these people, but they really shouldn't be surprised.

DerArzt··on The Only Game Worth Playing
I like the idea of "playing" Calvinball, but it feels like it's not acknowledging that many aren't in a position to make that kind of life change.
DerArzt··on Ask HN: How do you handle clients who don't pay on time?
Firms that follow their contract get preferential treatment.

FTFY

Just.....no. Don't give them an inch.

DerArzt··on Ask HN: Books on Unit Testing and TDD?
I would give the book by Beck a bit of lenience as it was the first book on the subject at a time that testing frameworks weren't as ubiquitous as they are today.

It's still a good foundational book to start with though.

DerArzt··on Tesla Goes Ahead and Admits Its Robotaxis Are Sometimes Human-Controlled
The controversy is the continued lack of transparency from Tesla about their activities on the planet's roadways.
DerArzt··on Software Engineering Is Becoming Civil Engineering
Until there is a standards body that tests and certfies Software Engineers and those engineers can be held liable when things go wrong, then no software engineering will not become civil engineering.

(I say this as someone who went to school for and got their bachelor's in Software Engineering)

DerArzt··on A Founder Tried to Pitch – and Got a Restraining Order
An you posted it......
DerArzt··on Default GraphQL response is now HTTP 500
Man I got excited until I saw the date. I disagree with always returning 200 (why should the caller need to parse the response to find out there was an error). Then again I don't understand why you would reach for graphql unless you are a massive org with a lot of front end teams (which isn't my works use case even though someone got distracted by the shiny thing and made it the standard) so my opinion is probably skewed.
DerArzt··on GitHub's Historic Uptime
This has to feel a little vindicating.
DerArzt··on U.S. stocks are set to deliver their worst quarter in nearly four years
We?
DerArzt··on Garry Tan: "37K LOC per day across 5 projects"
"Engineering"
DerArzt··on Meta's court losses spell potential trouble for AI research, consumer safety
The research wasn't the problem, it was what Meta did after the research was in that's the problem.
DerArzt··on I was paid to write fake Google reviews – then my 'bosses' tried to scam me
They worked for a fraudulent company and then the fraud was directed at them, shocker.
DerArzt··on I am leaving the AI party after one drink
People can do that, but they can't always get that point across to the decision makers at work (after enough smoke, they seem to enjoy the warm breeze between their butt cheeks).
DerArzt··on OpenAI reportedly plans to double its workforce to 8k employees
If their product works half as good as they say, why would they need more headcount (Just #ask_ai_to_do_it™)?
DerArzt··on Qman: A more modern man page viewer for our terminals
I haven't considered that many pages could be better, this is cool!
DerArzt··on Why investors won't know what to make of AI for a while
Oh no, professional gamblers are second guessing the bandwagon they jumped on....anyway
DerArzt··on AI is making CEOs delusional [video]
Making?
DerArzt··on Marc Andreesen says he has a zero-introspection mindset
I can taste the irony
DerArzt··on Afroman wins Ohio lawsuit over music videos: 'We did it – freedom of speech '
I hadn't heard of Afroman before all of this, but I loved the music video.
DerArzt··on "Please perform a comprehensive security audit" – and why it doesn't work
Begone Ad
DerArzt··on “This is not the computer for you”
They would still be better purchasing a used MacBook as you can find those at similar prices and they (assuming they aren't Intel) will have the long battery life and more.
DerArzt··on Show HN: Hyper – A stupidly non-corporate voice AI app for IRL conversations
Voice activated openclaw for the device that most people use more than a standard desktop computer, what could go wrong?
DerArzt··on Wired headphone sales are exploding
> here's hoping that someday headphones without pressure (e.g. active/passive noise cancelling) will make a comeback, too

What do you mean? There are tons of wired headphones that don't do noise cancelling at multiple price points.

I can still pick up a new pair of headphones that I started using 10 years ago (AudioTechnica m50x if you want the recommendation).

DerArzt··on Show HN: We want to displace Notion with collaborative Markdown files
You can make a NES emulator, that's neat! I'm probably not your target audience it seems. I don't know why a large amount of programmability is beneficial for a knowledge document system. Then again, I don't generally like my notes to be much fancier than text when possible so I can read it on any device or platform.
DerArzt··on Show HN: I built a multiplayer strategy game for AI agents
> TypeScript package with seeded RNG, so games are reproducible.

How does that work when the agent itself isn't deterministic? I'm guessing your talking about overall starting conditions and world state, or is there something else?

DerArzt··on Universal vaccine against respiratory infections and allergens
Gotta start somewhere!
DerArzt··on DuckDB 1.5.0
Once again, I cry for what I don't have in SQL Server. Range types look cool!
