Decker87··on Reverse engineering Ticketmaster's rotating barcodes
Taylor Swift's manager is a woman. And an artist like TS is going to know exactly how it works behind the scenes
Decker87··on Millionaires' Effective Tax Rate Has Been Cut by Half Since Mid-20th Century
Maximizing tax revenue isn't necessarily ideal.
Decker87··on Bloomberg's analysis didn't show that ChatGPT is racist
Did you comment on the right article? This seems to have nothing to do with whether the Bloomberg study article is correct or not.
Decker87··on Huberman Husbands and the rise of self-optimization
"Self-help might help you, but it also help systems of injustice."

Unfortunately the article did not improve after this.

Decker87··on X/Twitter has updated its terms of service to let it use posts for AI training
How does this work for old tweets if a person doesn't accept the new terms?
Decker87··on OpenAI used Kenyan workers on less than $2 per hour to make ChatGPT less toxic
sent from my iPhone
Decker87··on What “diversity and inclusion” means at Microsoft
At this moment in time I think companies can gain a major hiring advantage by simply hiring the best regardless of race/gender. So many large companies are shooting themselves in the foot distorting incentives and saying "no" to people who are the wrong color/gender.
Decker87··on Software engineers paying 75K to get 3 inches taller
I can't tell if this is sarcasm. Social change can take centuries and I'd argue this trend is moving in the other direction.
Decker87··on Brew Is a Bad Neighbor
It's what gets the clicks.
Decker87··on Ask HN: Our users don't want to pay taxes
I wish I could be more helpful, but the one thing I can tell you confidently is that you can't educate your users unless they are coming to your platform seeking an education. The best you can do is just give them a snappy UI where they mindlessly click through the "boring stuff" and a EULA that keeps you legally safe.
Decker87··on How many bots are on Twitter? Question is tough to answer and misses the point
Very useless article. "It's hard to count them, so let's just acknowledge the difficulty of the problem instead of solving it."
Decker87··on IBM's Asshole Test
Hiring is imperfect, and doesn't involve anything bordering on "objective truth".
Decker87··on 75 Percent of car buyers don’t want features locked behind subscriptions
That does seem pretty different from a subscription.
Decker87··on PayPal shuttering its San Francisco office
Go ahead and demonstrate it.
Decker87··on The Drunk Men I Drive Around Every Night (2020)
So they don't like that either?
Decker87··on Asian-Americans fight back against school discrimination
Why do you believe it's good for America?
Decker87··on Simmone Taitt wants to eliminate maternal health inequities
Why's everybody got to be such critics? Like yeah, of course they are pricing it so some users subsidize the cost for other users. That's not some new or crazy concept.
Decker87··on Ask HN: Why are Google's search products bad if Google has decades of Know-how?
I think there's more nuance than the cynical answer of making money.

Internally Google has become a "rest and vest" culture. Smart people ship one or two meaningful things per year, and because Google is swimming in cash they don't understand that they are ridiculously slow and inefficient.

Decker87··on Apple chief Tim Cook faces shareholder revolt over $99M pay package
So just to get this straight: you argued that Tim Cook only got there via his rich family, even before you knew whether that was true.
Decker87··on When I do TDD and when I don’t
This is where TDD folds in on itself. It's nominally about iteration, but requires that you know how the inputs and outputs will look up front before iterating.
Decker87··on 6 months of working at a hypergrowth startup
Why is that needless to say? It sounds like they gave you a straight answer.
Decker87··on Major breakthrough on nuclear fusion energy
He's pretty into the future of clean energy. If one looks at it just from that perspective and not a moralistic one, I think it means something for him to invest.
Decker87··on Google Stadia May Not Be Long for This World
I am Jack's compete lack of surprise.
Decker87··on Elsevier embeds a hash in the PDF metadata that is unique for each download
Nit: This is a function of the file system, not the operating system.
Decker87··on As Austin thrives as a tech hub, will it avoid San Francisco’s problems?
I guess that's a "yes"...hopefully?
Decker87··on I now have full remote control of over 20 Tesla’s in 10 countries
My guess is Tesla would treat it as the user's fault unless they were defeated in court. It'll be interesting.
Decker87··on I took a job at Amazon, only to leave after 10 months
I think it was perhaps circulating in the professional networks and rumor mills before. I remember hearing about it a few years ago.
Decker87··on An Excel TikToker manifested her way to making six figures a day
In general that helps with everything.
Decker87··on Don't soften feedback
Accepting feedback is a skill, and a manager has to deal with vastly different skill levels in the people they provide feedback to.

The manager's manager also has to be supportive. I had a manager once who, when one of my directs complained that I was "mean", told the direct that I shouldn't have been so direct. This undermined my ability to give direct feedback, and deprived my employee of the opportunity to practice the skill.

Decker87··on San Francisco Considers Two Bills Legalizing 'Missing Middle' Housing Citywide
San Francisco's approach to housing is so endlessly entertaining. They want to allow developers to build higher-density dwellings but force them to do so at a loss. Gee, I wonder how many developers will voluntarily lose money.
