DeWilde··on In Maine, prisoners are thriving in remote jobs
Have you considered the impact to the society if people destructive to it are not incarcerated?
DeWilde··on OpenAI's misalignment and Microsoft's gain
> no bonus some years,

What do you mean? MS employees are getting bonuses on a yearly basis, this year included.

DeWilde··on OpenAI DevDay, Opening Keynote Livestream [video]
Was this just ChatGPT or a custom implementation with access to some data?
DeWilde··on Men's Shed
That is true, such spots should exist as well.

But the point of the men-only ones is to allow men to socialize with other men and talk about problems that affect them only or problems they don't feel comfortable talking about in a mixed setting.

DeWilde··on Men's Shed
Why would it be sexist to have men's only spaces for the purposes of men's mental health?
DeWilde··on Biohacking Lite (2020)
Depends what fruit and depends in what amount.

You can safely eat 200 grams of tomatoes as the sugar and calorie amount is pretty low but it will make you feel satiated.

Meanwhile 100 grams of banana will have 5 times the sugar and calories of tomatoes (for 100g) but still is pretty fine if you restrict yourself at that 1 small banana.

200 grams of an apple is also pretty safe and is a nice snack.

DeWilde··on Disney begins laying off 7k employees
This was a good use of ChatGPT
DeWilde··on Microsoft 365 Copilot – your copilot for work
I've been using it for code and product summaries and recommendations and it works fine.

With what uses did you find it lacking?

DeWilde··on Ultra-processed foods may contribute to cognitive decline
Making your own bread will have it qualify as non-ultra-processed. Now that might seem extreme for most folks or too cumbersome but today to avoid ultra-processed food or generally unhealthy food is pretty hard. And most people won't put in the effort no matter how well labeled it is.

To me it is more counterproductive not to label it as such, regardless that it may be highly nutritional, due to the fact that people like me who are not able to eat processed food and information like this is a literal life saver.

DeWilde··on Core-JS is holding the internet hostage?
I'd say the only problem with Denis is that he kept supporting something for free for so long while getting so much hate and vitriol from the community.

I'd just abandon it and find something else to do in life. If Core-js is truly that important than some company would step in to fill in the void.

DeWilde··on Half of Americans now believe that news organizations deliberately mislead them
> Bette yet: half of Americans believe in conspiracies with superhuman coordination and execution capabilities.

But they are not well co-ordinated or executed, that is the reason many people are catching on to the manufactured narratives.

This isn't done by some Matrix-type entity or does it need to be run by something as perfect as an AGI. All it takes is to have the top editors deciding which stories to run and with what narrative. Of course this break down as the rank and file journalist are the ones in charge of writing the stories and presenting them.

And the people at the top of this aren't by any matter a cohesive group or a big brother type entity rather just people with money and power doing what they think will help them keep money and power.

DeWilde··on Amazon warns employees not to share confidential information with ChatGPT
When using it for work I never give out specific examples, data, or code. Rather I ask generalized questions like how to parse this JSON object in python and access this property within the object.
DeWilde··on GitHub Sponsors will stop accepting PayPal on February 23, 2023
That might be a Germam specific thing, right over the border in Czechia cards are omni-present.

Plus you have e-banks like Revolut.

DeWilde··on GitHub Sponsors will stop accepting PayPal on February 23, 2023
Isn't revolut more popular in EU?
DeWilde··on ChatGPT Plus
Already is, if you mean davinci-003.
DeWilde··on ChatGPT in an iOS Shortcut: Smart HomeKit Voice Assistant
Where does it say he is using InstructGPT?
DeWilde··on 'Oumuamua: An analysis of the debate regarding the first interstellar visitor
Maybe better not to do it, could be a trap that provokes a dark forrest strike.
DeWilde··on A plea for culinary modernism (2001) [pdf]
My thoughts as well.

You don't need to spend an entire day in the kitchen to prepare yourself a few meals with unprocessed or minimally processed foods: frozen or fresh veggies, dairy products, eggs, raw meat, or fish with about 20 mins of cooking, frying, or boiling and you have yourself a few meals.

Its actually cheaper than eating out and if you apply meal prep on a weekly basis, like I do, it doesn't even take too much of your time.

DeWilde··on VALL-E: Neural codec language models are zero-shot text to speech synthesizers
Seems like there could be better technical solutions for the problem of impersonation (digital signature, etc.) as malicious actors could just make their own TTS without such noises.
DeWilde··on Musicians wage war against evil robots (2012)
Has there ever been a case when such movements successfully halted some technological progress?
DeWilde··on GPT3/DALL-E2 in Discord, chat like ChatGPT, generate images, and more
Yes, the GPT-3.5 model has been fine-tuned using RLHF, this is the text-davinci-003 you can use through OpenAI's API's.

Not sure if ChatGPT has some additional fine-tunings as you can get similar response using text-davinci-003, with the Chat prompt, and a temperature setting between 0.3 and 0.7.

DeWilde··on Programming as Play
The difference between programing for work, where with deadlines speed is of the essence, and programming for fun, where I take my time and don't stress if it all fails, is vast for me. The later feels the same as any hobby while the former is mostly a source of stress as I have to leave many things in a undesirable state.
DeWilde··on AI breakthrough ChatGPT raises alarm over student cheating
If a technology can make an educational method obsolete maybe it is time to rethink the educational method?

And if students can use a technology like ChatGPT to complete their education, are they not then prepared for real life tasks and situations that they can also complete using ChatGPT?

DeWilde··on I’ve been battling cancer last 2 years, but now only have a few days left
In some cases yes, but hardly in all cases.

Anecdotally, I know people with the same wealth as me or even wealthier who eat copious amounts of sweets in all forms and are also obese. Some people just don't have control.

But yes, proper education regarding nutrition is something that is sorely needed as most people are unaware of the dangers of eating sugar rich and calorie rich foods in large amounts.

DeWilde··on Show HN: Factual AI Q&A – Answers based on Huberman Lab transcripts
Thank you :)
DeWilde··on Next, Nest, Nuxt Nust?
Anyone here using Svelte or now SvelteKit, how does it compare to React and Vue and Next and Nuxt respectively?
DeWilde··on Show HN: Factual AI Q&A – Answers based on Huberman Lab transcripts
This is pretty amazing. Is this approach documented or explained anywhere?

I have some ideas of my own that I would love to implement similarly to this and it would help to know how to get started.

DeWilde··on Ask HN: How does ChatGPT work?
It uses GPT-3 under the hood which requires about 350 gigabytes of GPU VRAM (back of the envelope calc, likely more) to perform these inferences.
DeWilde··on Disputing a Parking Fine with ChatGPT
It is disturbing in the way it changes a lot of things in such a short time. But on the other hand change is inevitable is constant, look at life at 100 years ago and compare it to now. A lot has changed.
DeWilde··on Placing #1 in Advent of Code with GPT-3
Maybe hunter gatherers did live more equitable but their life quality has nowhere near what an average human has today with technology. Even in developing countries.
