vibe coded crawlers run by morally bankrupt trend chasers aren't going to be the most well engineered systems you come across.
DarmokTanagra··on Creepy Crawlies
Most of these crawlers are probably AI generated in the first place, and AI generated code is garbage.

Thats a good enough explanation in my opinion.

Most Asian primates that I have encountered are omnivores, especially if you include insects and small reptiles/amphibians.

Is that not the case in Central/South America?

DarmokTanagra··on No AI Fridays
Privileged workers are the ones who's employers are paying for AI while still keeping them employed in the first place.

The end goal of every AI initiative is to lower headcount, if your employer is forcing AI usage you are digging your own grave.

DarmokTanagra··on No AI Fridays
I just cleaned my cats litter box and that was cooler than AI.

I have no idea how people can spend 40 hours a week interacting with those sycophantic random number generators, its like having the most annoying linkedin influencer you can imagine DM'ing you all day.

Spare me the dang cosplay.

You can choose to rationalize the actions of fascists all you want, but the rest of the world is not obligated to respect you for it.

In my country we have a word that roughly translates to “lackey to those in power”, but I think I prefer the American English pejorative “bootlicker”.

Nothing at all, I just think its a rather arbitrary distinction, especially when you consider heuristic methods like autocomplete that have been around for ages.

Speaking as someone living in Asia who visits the US every year or so, you are falling more and more behind and I don’t see a way for you to catch up without a drastic societal reformation.

The EV market alone should scare the average citizen, but it seems like a non issue every time I bring it up.

I think the US economy has painted itself into a corner and this all in bet on AI is its last real play before the house of cards collapses.

So “create an express app boilerplate, make no mistakes” requires attribution but “npx express-generator myapp” does not?

The bar for “writes code for you” is very low.

Like "code generator IDE plugins".

There are hundreds of them for just about every IDE you can think of.

I can't tell if this is a serious question or not, but metaprogramming/generators are decades old concepts that have been common features of basically every IDE since the 90s.

Just look it up, its a pretty well documented bit of trivia.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by "Star Wars".

How funny will it be when the US economy collapses because of all the money poured into AI at the expense of pretty much everything else only for China to come out ahead anyways.

Personally I hope this is China's "Star Wars" moment, the current US admin certainly seems easy enough to manipulate into catastrophic own goals.

"Voting works, you just need to compromise your beliefs and pretend to be someone that hates everything you believe in to participate!"

Hallmark of a healthy democracy.

Good thing that there isn't a court in the United States that exists solely to make those kinds of distinctions and revise previous interpretations of the law in order to apply them to an evolving legal landscape.

Flock cameras using facial recognition to surveil citizens in public spaces without a warrant is a 4th amendment violation under any rational reading, and it is up to the American people whether they want to live in country that no longer holds itself accountable to the law or not.

It really has no impact on my life beyond the looming existential crisis of the world's largest military and nuclear power slowly becoming a rogue fascist state.

DarmokTanagra··on The Rise and Fall of Agent Civilizations
Someday soon we are going to have a rogue agent or "civilization" do real harm.

When that happens I hope people wake up to the danger they face and hold these people accountable.

Of all the people in the world that I can think of to be entrusted with this kind of power, a bunch of greedy sociopathic SV CEO's are pretty much at the bottom of the list.

Carpenter v. United States and the supporting opinion written by John Roberts in 2018 reaffirms that ongoing electronic surveillance requires a search warrant and constitutes a violation of the 4th amendment.

I don't live in the US, but it seems that constant monitoring via government sanctioned facial recognition technology falls under that umbrella.

The term is "nationality", it describes a person's legal bond and citizenship tied to a specific country, usually gained by birth or naturalization.

If you have never heard of that before then someone failed you during your education.

In American style representative democracy there certainly are places where voting is useless depending on your political affiliation.

Nonsensical drum circle naivety.

Go to some of the poorer parts of the world and live the life of a subsistence farmer for a while.

There is a reason people move to cities, and it generally involves their children not starving to death.

Buddhist's view everyday existence within samsara (the cycle of rebirth) as inherently marked by dissatisfaction, pain, and impermanence.

Those kinds of beliefs reflect the lived reality of our ancestors.
