DarkNova6··on Leanstral: Open-source agent for trustworthy coding and formal proof engineering
I'm never sure how much faith one can put into such benchmarks but in any case the optics seem to shift once you have pass@2 and pass@3.

Still, the more interesting comparison would be against something such as Codex.

DarkNova6··on Leanstral: Open-Source foundation for trustworthy vibe-coding
Not at the moment, but a release of Mistral 4 seems close which likely bridges the gap.
DarkNova6··on SQG (SQL to Code Generator) v0.10: Java Streams and List Type Support
Neat! Even-though they should probably use a custom type rather than the generic "Stream" to communicate that this needs to be closed. Or remove the try-with-resource block if closing is not necessary.

This way it leaves some room for misinterpretation.

DarkNova6··on How to talk to anyone and why you should
Yeah... it's difficult enough to find engaging conversations with people I do know. If you want to talk for the sake of talking, there won't be a shortage of possibilities. And if you are sociable enough, people will do so.

But outside of these parameters? It's very slim picking.

DarkNova6··on Looks like it is happening

DarkNova6··on C# implementation of state machine declared using fluent syntax
Oh yeah, that's a fun exercise. And it comes with a mermaid generator as a bow on top too.

Did pretty much the same in Java at university.

DarkNova6··on Tesla Sales Down 55% UK, 58% Spain, 59% Germany, 81% Netherlands, 93% Norway
Musk didn't found Tesla, he invested into it when it was small. Musk brought good marketing and gave the people who were declined at GM a platform. So far so good.

It was a success. He got more investment, built factories, became market leader. Built an industrial stack where there was none.

And gradually he got crazy. Dodgecoin, Nazi gestures, thinking he has to safe humanity because left radicaly are destroying it.

Instead of cutting down on costs, Tesla insisted it is the only electrical car and priced it as such. Not to mention the cybertruck disaster everybody saw from miiles away.

Meanwhile, the Chinese have the best electrics with the currently best industrial basis for production and cheap resources.

Musk has too much money, got lucky with an investment and started becoming complacent. The rest of the story writes itself.

DarkNova6··on I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?
Gemini 2.5 Pro gets the joke and has by far the best answer:

This is a wonderful logistical puzzle!

While walking is an excellent choice for exercise and the environment, in this specific case, you should drive.

Here's a breakdown of the two scenarios:

# Scenario 1: You Walk

1. You walk 50 meters to the car wash.

2. You arrive, feeling refreshed.

3. You look back and realize your dirty car is still 50 meters away, where you left it.

4. The car remains unwashed.

# Scenario 2: You Drive

1. You get in your car.

2. You drive for approximately 10-20 seconds.

3. You arrive at the car wash with the car.

4. The car gets washed.

Conclusion:

To achieve your goal of washing your car, the car itself must be present at the car wash. Therefore, driving is the only logical option.

Enjoy your sparkling clean car

DarkNova6··on From Tobacco to Ultraprocessed Food: How Industry Fuels Preventable Disease
I am not sure we can take a slogan from 2007 as a state of the art understanding.

But I am biased. I‘ve seen this slogan everywhere to promote UPFs that claim to be healthy because they are „vegan“.

Now that the market for meat alternatives has collapsed I don’t see this reasoning anymore. What a strange coincidence.

DarkNova6··on Euro firms must ditch Uncle Sam's clouds and go EU-native
True for the current situation, but something needs to happen before the thinking turns into acting. There's no better time than now, since most cloud services have become commodities. You don't need to be big-tech to have a competitive offering that. Naturally, the tech won't be as efficient and shiny as those of the big ones, but you have none of the corporate bloat and inefficiencies.

And don't forget about legislation. If there are new laws that set a limit to egress costs you can say goodbye to the walled garden of cloud empires.

After all, how many cloud services does the average company actually need? Most problems have been figured out by now, so such a project would be less like creating thought-leaders and more like a public infrastructure project. With exception of cutting-edge technologies, the cloud has become a commodity.

DarkNova6··on Package management is a wicked problem
I mean, those languages have the literal culture of "Skill Issues" backed in. I would be very careful with that statement.
DarkNova6··on Package management is a wicked problem
I was mostly having typical application programming languages in mind such as C# and Java. Go doesn't exactly fit that bill and I've seen it be used more for technical plumbing that needs a good concurrency model. And Maven isn't exactly new.

Frankly, PHP also has a very good packet manager with Composer. In general, PHP has done surprisingly good and sane decisions for the language and extremely solid support for static typing by now.

But yeah, Cargo definitely had the benefit of Hindsight.

DarkNova6··on Package management is a wicked problem
Is it not curious that languages known for their rigor have solid package manager/build tools while the remakning languages do not?

This is not a technical problem. It’s a cultural one.

DarkNova6··on What twenty years of DevOps has failed to do
But is DevOps a role or a principle?

The way I have seen it in my carreer is to have operational and development capabilities within the same team. And the idea of a „DevOps guy“ is a guy „developing operations integrations“.

As opposed to completely siloing ops nd dev.

DarkNova6··on AI Destroys Institutions
This is literally corporate textbook 101. Subsidize your product, become market leader, cause lock-in and make your customers dependant.

Every large enough corporate wants to become the new Oracle.

DarkNova6··on AI Destroys Institutions
An institution is worth nothing without the spirit, humanity and exchange of knowledge among the humanity behind it. The fostering of real expertise is difficult, but without this expertise you are doomed to believe whatever your Corporate AI is telling you.

So is the AI better?

No. It's quicker, easier, more seductive.

DarkNova6··on Is Rust faster than C?
> But we’re not usually talking about that. We’re usually talking about something in the context of engineering, a specific project, with specific developers, with specific time constraints, and so on. I think that there are so many variables that it is difficult to draw generalized conclusions.

The world would be a more reasonable place if more people took this by heart.

DarkNova6··on No management needed: anti-patterns in early-stage engineering teams
What you are saying is that companies would want to pay theor employees more money, but they can’t because of unions.

Sorry, hard sell.

> While null-pointers are possibly under #1 it seems much more likely that you'd produce other kinds of invalid pointers(out of bounds, unaligned etc) than nullptr. The use of null pointers to signal absence and failure is surely the most common source of them in C (and relatives).

Fair point. Still, it just leaves a bitter taste when you want to express something as non-null but can't technically exclude it...
