Dahoon··on For years, Intel sat on its CPU monopoly and now the tide turns against them
Not by much unless they come with Windows as default OS.
Dahoon··on USB-C was supposed to simplify our lives, but instead it’s a total mess
Let me counter with another question: Do you also expect random HDMI and LAN cables to have the same capabilities?
Dahoon··on USB-C was supposed to simplify our lives, but instead it’s a total mess
I'm not sure I see how this is an interesting definition. How is it different from HDMI or LAN cables? There the cables also define capability so "cables that look identical don't actually work the same way".

>someone who is capable of a "serious, violent crime"

That would be 100% of people who isn't either a baby or has somehow no way to move arms and legs enough to wield a knife, gun, poison, etc. It is not a question of capability but the situations you are put in and live through. Otherwise you are saying criminality is in the genes.

So TLDR; your opinion is the way it should be done and anyone who thinks otherwise are wrong. How free of you.

> It's Orwell-think

Hilarious in a comment stating the US position is the correct one. I'd like to know of an example of another nation that is more or even on the same level of Orwellian as the US? I can't even think of one historically, far from it today. Of course the US way of thinking would require you to yell CHINAMAN or RED RUSSIAN now as loud as you can, but in reality neither have near as Orwellian a state as the U.S. of NSA.

Dahoon··on Pixel 5
I'm not sure this is a trend breaker. OnePlus seems to do the same.

Dahoon··on Dreading a dark winter lockdown? Think like a Norwegian
It does sound logical but as someone living in Denmark I can attest that it would have to be pretty far north. Winter in Denmark is almost always grey and rainy and little snow.
Dahoon··on Judge temporarily blocks U.S. ban on TikTok downloads from U.S. app stores
Exactly. This is like when tax was put on foreign motorcycles to protect Harley Davidson because it clearly was an inferior product that could not live on customer demand alone against Japanese products. I own one of the products that came out of this debacle[1] which might be the reason I still remember this unlike most who seem to believe this is a new way to do things in the US.

Wikipedia is not a good source one way or the other.

You cannot say "A" is evil because it does "X", so we will also do "X" and then still claim "A" is evil without saying you are evil yourself.

What you are saying is that unless PRC becomes like the US, the US has to become like PRC. I'm amazed how this is not clear to anyone following this. The only way to go forward and not become what you are pointing fingers at is taking the high road. The US is clearly not doing so.

Thank you for the warning. Nice to know the brand name. Not going to support anything from an Israeli company.
Dahoon··on Stop Asking Me to “Sign Up” (2014)
Not really unless it is spamming users. Apple have an API for sending "yes I like your app" to give a rating and give "no I hate it" a feedback form. On the Play store it is "gaming the system". In the App store it is "working as intended".
Dahoon··on Stop Asking Me to “Sign Up” (2014)
I always answer yes and give a one star rating. An app that tries to game the system (and likely breaks the stores rules) deserve it.

A phone with less than 700px width in 2020? The sites I work with have small screens at around 1000-1200 px width. 700 is more like a wap feature phone..
Dahoon··on Hotels of Pyongyang
Look at the most pure capitalist systems in the world and you will see more corruption and 1%'ers than in the way less "pure". Like Scandinavia vs the US. It isn't rubbish at all.

For what? Brainwashing people to buying another Coke? Sure they are better at that at least.

Like Russia on any US made map.
