I love this story. Tap tap tap, "A little help over here please."

DLA··on The US Gov Graph – a complete map of the federal government
This is not a complete map at all, though very nice visually.
DLA··on Dario, Please
This! $1.6+ TRILLION in infra spending from the big frontier labs. The earnings needed to drive a reasonable ROI to recoup that investment is simply not going to happen in a time frame where the numbers make sense.

The other insanity in all this the smartest computer scientists in the world are asking Congress to regulate them. Come. On. Really? Do we remember “The internet is not a truck, it’s a series of tubes…”

Why can’t the big labs form a Save The World Consortium and self-regulate?

Non-democratic counties (hey there China) will not abide by any agreement that constrains their advantage. It’s naive to think so.

What this conversation lacks is enough discussion of how these models can cause us harm—we are are so worried about AI but we allow Windows in critical infrastructure; we build JS/TS apps with thousands of dependencies; we generally don’t segment networks well enough; we don’t have adequate (sometimes any) detection capabilities in our systems, and so on.

Love this approach and use it often, usually with a Go backend. Blazing fast, simple, respects the way the web is supposed to work. Really nice touch using the CSS transitions.

DLA··on [dead]
Wow. What an absolutely stupid policy! So TSA thinks a cursory visual glance is somehow increasing security when every single carry bag is already digitally imaged. Pure security theater. I cannot believe this is real.
DLA··on U.S. Capabilities Are Showing Signs of Rot
You are kidding right? "Right not carpet bombing exactly but multiple days now of bombing a country that has never attacked us with their military." Iran conducted thousands of attack against US and coalition forces in Iraq with IEDs made in Iran.
DLA··on U.S. Capabilities Are Showing Signs of Rot
Nobody is carpet bombing. Baseless claim.

And what is your association to speak about US MIL morale may ask?

DLA··on Tailwind Components
Love DaisyUI & Tailwind. Building 5 systems with it now at work. We are using Ho for the backend with mostly SSR views with some HTMx interactive islands.

DLA··on JetBlue flight averts mid-air collision with US Air Force jet
Threats are not to civilian aircraft. If conflict occurs areas would become restricted.
DLA··on JetBlue flight averts mid-air collision with US Air Force jet
The FAA did warn about military ops in the area. Good question; not sure they issued a NOTAM.
DLA··on JetBlue flight averts mid-air collision with US Air Force jet
Not sure I’d call crossing traffic “within a few miles” a near-miss. Even at full cruising speed of 500-600MPH (less because the JetBlue was still on a climb) the civilian aircraft would cover a mile in 6-7 seconds, so we are talking 18 to 24 seconds to close 3-4 miles.

Also, it a common for military aircraft to not have a transponder on, especially in the vicinity of threats. Without a transponder the civilian aircraft TCAS/ACAS would not warn about traffic.

Not sure how far off the coast of Venezuela this occurred, but there are some very real SAM threats the Air Force aircraft would need to worry about.

DLA··on Pete Hegseth Needs to Go–Now
ABC News now reporting:

New details emerged Wednesday about the second strike by the U.S. military on an alleged boat on Sept. 2 that killed two survivors, according to a source familiar with the incident.

The two survivors climbed back onto the boat after the initial strike, the source said.

They were believed to be potentially in communication with others in the vicinity and were salvaging some of the drugs that had been the boat’s cargo, the source said, and because of these actions were determined to be "still in the fight" and considered to be valid targets.

DLA··on Pete Hegseth Needs to Go–Now
God no I am not saying people floating are fleeing; not even the slightest. I was, however, pointing out events from the past and how post-strike targets were often finished in counterterrorism strikes from land wars. This was not a matter of giving no quarter but one of eliminating threats. The cartels have been designated as terrorist organizations, which does open additional operational options. Not passing judgment; trying to consider the complex nuances here.

Media is quoted because The Atlantic tends to be very biased to one side—-they are not objective; they have an agenda.

DLA··on Pete Hegseth Needs to Go–Now
This is a good faith debate. Notice asking questions and being transparent about what I do not know.
DLA··on Pete Hegseth Needs to Go–Now
[Not a JAG] I think there are legal interpretations here that I am not qualified to make. However, countless times in Irag, Afghanistan, and elsewhere target vehicles or compounds were struck, killing some and causing others to flee. Fleeing is NOT surrender. So this gets nuanced really quickly.
DLA··on Pete Hegseth Needs to Go–Now
So what is the illegal order, specifically? Lots of people repeating talking points but not one cites the illegal order. And, The Atlantic is anything but a fair “media” outlet, so consider the source. (21 years in the military).
DLA··on The Civil-Military Crisis Is Here
This is such unserious “reporting” - typical biased, agenda-driven hysteria from The Atlantic. Sixty-day security operations with National Guard to protect Federal officers doing legal deportation operations is not an authoritarian takeover.

I’d like to see a little concern over the lawlessness and crime that’s occurring because certain big cities don’t enforce laws and fail to protect the citizens. Yes by all means protest, 1A rights all day, but attacking police and Federal officers is a crime. This must stop.

And regarding, “extrajudicial killings of random Venezuelan people” - How many ‘random’ people (and a few US citizens) did Obama drone with zero due process?
