DEFCON28··on German online bank uses Bitcoins to transfer loans
If Bitcoin is such a good solution, why do they have to mislead with news about banks that aren’t banks?
DEFCON28··on The Weird, Dangerous, Isolated Life of the Saturation Diver
Are they unusually well-compensated for this sort of construction work?
DEFCON28··on The Last Slave Ship Survivor Gave an Interview in the 1930s
I think many people in the West don’t realize the Arab and Moslim contribution to the slave trade. Especially considering the sympathy these groups receive from Progressive political groups in the United States.
DEFCON28··on The Last Slave Ship Survivor Gave an Interview in the 1930s
The Wikipedia article about the Clodilda says:

> After the Civil War, the people had asked the U.S. government to repatriate them, but they were refused.

DEFCON28··on The Last Slave Ship Survivor Gave an Interview in the 1930s
Yes. And I fully agree that without the demand there would not have been the supply. I’m not trying to start a “butwhatabout” here.
DEFCON28··on The Last Slave Ship Survivor Gave an Interview in the 1930s
> members of the neighboring Dahomian tribe captured him and took him to the coast. There, he and about 120 others were sold into slavery and crammed onto the Clotilda, the last slave ship to reach the continental United States.

Even repeating a sentence about this that appeared in the original article gets downvoted and reported. Why is this such a sensitive thing to talk about?

DEFCON28··on The Last Slave Ship Survivor Gave an Interview in the 1930s
Not to detract one bit from the evil horror of Americans who purchased him and brought him to the US but what of the neighboring tribe who captured and sold him? (As is described in this article, and was news to me.) That’s a story I’ve never heard told.
DEFCON28··on FCC fines robocaller record $120M
One technique I use is my phones have an area code from another state that I never get calls from. (South Dakota). If I get a call from this area code I know it’s spam.
DEFCON28··on The Wealthy Are Hoarding $10B of Bitcoin in Bunkers
I wouldn’t expect the poor to hoard $10B
DEFCON28··on Google Duplex: An AI System for Accomplishing Real World Tasks Over the Phone
Why don’t they think even further ahead and build a robot that cuts your hair?
DEFCON28··on List of screw drives
I like the skrillex
DEFCON28··on Obamacare Calorie Count Rules Ushered In
But this law is all about calories. And counting calories works. If you’re unable to count calories then of course you need some remedial help. But pretending that it’s about “eating the right foods” is lying to yourself.
DEFCON28··on Obamacare Calorie Count Rules Ushered In
And especially don’t listen to anyone who is overweight. They are like crabs in a bucket and will try to pull you back in.
DEFCON28··on Obamacare Calorie Count Rules Ushered In
Exactly. I am a strict calorie counter and I am not overweight. (155# 5’10” 55 year old man). Sometimes I have hostess cupcakes for breakfast. (330 calories). Sometimes I have a Big Mac for lunch (550 calories). It’s hilarious when fat people talk about ‘whole foods’ and ‘mindful eating’. It’s calories.
DEFCON28··on Yale physicists find signs of a time crystal
Sean was just Ok.
DEFCON28··on Bonobo and chimpanzee gestures overlap extensively in meaning
Or Jackdaws! (Here’s the thing....)
DEFCON28··on ICOs are Cancer
No they're not. An innocent person can't succumb to an ICO the way anyone can get Cancer.

This is just a very old story: "A fool and his money."

DEFCON28··on Amazon threatens to suspend Signal's AWS account over censorship circumvention
Exactly! These countries may start blocking Amazon and Cloudfront domains. Amazon needs to put its foot down.
DEFCON28··on Amazon threatens to suspend Signal's AWS account over censorship circumvention
Why should we in the United States coerce (or sneak into) countries whose Governments don't want us there? Are these folks really "idealists" who think that access to tools like "Signal" will usher in a new spring! (See how well that worked in Egypt and Syria?)

Let these Nations enjoy their sovereign right to protect their borders--even their digital ones--as they see fit.

DEFCON28··on Microsoft helped imprison a man for ‘counterfeiting’ software it gives away free
Because to YCombinator fans Microsoft is always bad, and nobody should ever be able to own intellectual property.
DEFCON28··on Microsoft helped imprison a man for ‘counterfeiting’ software it gives away free
Microsoft didn’t imprison anyone. The U.S. government did.
DEFCON28··on Credit card fraud warning signs
Ha!

Neither buyer nor seller is protected with Crypto Currencies.

DEFCON28··on Controversial New Milk Shakes Up Big Dairy
Exactly. So if people claim that they are "lactose intolerant" and can drink A2 with no bad effect, they are not making much sense.
DEFCON28··on Controversial New Milk Shakes Up Big Dairy
I don't want to see another good cheap source of protein be demonized, the way gluten (seitan) and peanuts have been. Most people can tolerate milk well.
DEFCON28··on Controversial New Milk Shakes Up Big Dairy
It's one of the highest quality news sources in the United States and many people pay for it.
DEFCON28··on Controversial New Milk Shakes Up Big Dairy
You are not correct.

Stabilizers and emulsifiers are only used in beverages made from milk (chocolate or strawberry milk) and heavy whipping creams. They are not used in normal dairy products, even homogenized ones.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk#Creaming_and_homogenizati...

DEFCON28··on My account is sending spam emails
Read the thread before you comment!

People are reporting these messages are in their sent mail folder!

Now it's possible that gmail makes it looks like it was "sent mail" if it receives a message "from you" even if you didn't send it, but it's also possible that google has been hacked in a big way.

And some of the people reporting this are knowledgeable people who know what spoofing is, and who have good unique passwords and two-factor enabled.

DEFCON28··on Smugmug Acquires Flickr
Flickr used to be great. Now it's unsuitably bad.

I was a premium Flickr user for years, and then they broke sharing in a big way. I could no longer send "private" links to people I knew of my photo albums and expect them to be able to view the photos without signing up for an account.

I now share simple photo albums with Microsoft Sway.

DEFCON28··on NirSoft Freeware (2008)
The name Nir Sofer "ניר סופר" means "Field Scribe" ("nir" also means plowed, but refers to a plowed field, too.

Now you know!

DEFCON28··on ReactOS releases 0.4.8 with experimental Vista/7/10 software compatibility
Huh? Why would you even say this? There's no MS-DOS code in Windows 95, and you couldn't exit Windows 95 to a command prompt. Are you just trying to throw some FUD into this conversation?
