Cyndre··on VeriSign hit by hackers
Am I the only that wonders if Symantec is the right company to be in control of verisign???

To me it seems that there would be a little bit of a conflict of interest around owning an antivirus company and the tool that tells you a site is who they say they are.

I know this sounds a little crazy, but think about it before you downvote me.

Cyndre··on Idea to *compete with* Hollywood
Please feel free to leave any suggestions and/or feedback. Thanks.
Cyndre··on Supercolliding a PHP array (inserting 65536 elements takes 30 seconds)
Very nice explanation. Thanks to you and a few others I now understand what is happening far better :). Interesting, even at 256 it takes 10 times as long to insert the evil elements.

Thanks again for helping me understand and learn something new today :)

Cyndre··on Supercolliding a PHP array (inserting 65536 elements takes 30 seconds)
Making a simple change of $size = pow(2, 16); to $size = 65535 removes the issue entirely.

Inserting 65535 evil elements took 0.030333042144775 seconds Inserting 65535 good elements took 0.020994901657104 seconds

Cyndre··on Friction simulation on touchscreen
I would love to have a touchscreen keyboard with this functionality in it. This is the biggest thing missing from touch screens presently. Very excited to see what comes from it.
Cyndre··on Mark Zuckerberg: 'We've Made A Bunch Of Mistakes'

Cyndre··on WeekendHacker.net - A place for very small projects
Should have it set to both instead of same id as designer for designer and both.

Cyndre··on Is Microsoft trying to end the reign of mobile carriers?
You guys are thinking small. If I was microsoft this would be my plan.

I would integrate it into the 360, windows 7, windows mobile, and windows tablets.

Work with steam to add functionality to let you answer your phone on your comp whiel playing call of duty. Answer your home phone while playing forza 4 on your 360. All 4 devices would be able to accept calls, transfer calls inbetween themselves and all using the same phone number at the same time.

Currently we take our im, facebook, email and sms everywhere we go but when it comes to phone numbers we all have 2 or 3 (cell, home, office, fax to list a few).

All calls are now data, no need for a seperate fax line - your voip box checks a bit, oh its a fax, and sends it to the fax machine, or allows you to view it on your comp, phone, tablet or tv.

This is just the start and don't want to write a blog, just my opinion. Looking forward to comments.

Cyndre··on The Great +1 Logical Fallacy
I have thought about this a lot in the past and came up with a simple solution.

The easiest way would be to track the search terms and the ip address/mac address used with the search terms. If google sees them come back to the site and google the same/close search terms as the last link the last link they had is -1. If they are seen with different unrelated search terms the last link they clicked for those search terms is +1. If they arn't seen back on the site in x minutes, the last link they clicked gets +1.

Cyndre··on Canadian Conservatives commit to Internet surveillance.
And one aspect that no one is touching on is unsecured wireless hotspots. What is the implications of this for Safeway, or any other company that runs a customer friendly wifi access network?

Say goodbye to those conviences as well. ISP's will need waivers for customers running unsecured networks, not to mention potential liability when your supplying wireless devices to your customers.

Like gun control the only people this will punish is law abiding citizens.

Cyndre··on Google has developed speech-recognition technology that actually works.
How is that even a test for it? If you input garbage into a system like that your going to get garbage out. And for fun, walk up to a stranger and say something like that and see if the stranger can provide useful information.
Cyndre··on Bing smacks Google in new usability test
Its amazing how close they all are. One of the key things thats different is the bar at the top - but all same layout, format, color......
Cyndre··on UBB overturned - Canada no longer biggest internet loser.
I definatly agree, wrote an article about it already - http://adamdomoney.posterous.com/bandwidth-problem-metered-g...

To sum it up - Extra bandwidth does cost money, but $2 a gig is outlandish. If the crtc is to be involved, it should be involved in regulating the price - maybe a $20 access fee and $.25 per gig.

Cyndre··on Netflix Performance on Top ISP Networks
Thanks for that. A nice little tool for isp admins to check how they are doing in general.
Cyndre··on Way back machine gets way better (and now runs on OSS)
Very nice. Not only is it way better, its also way faster. Grats to the Guys behind the Way back machine.
Cyndre··on Senator Al Franken: No joke, Comcast trying to whack Netflix
But yet again, how is this the customers fault Comcast oversold their bandwidth? Comcast set the limits, the max speed, and takes care of the infrastructure. And fyi, electrical grids are designed for peak usage, same with water systems, and same with sewer pipes. Look at stadiums for an example where they engineered the system to handle every crapper to be flushed at the same time.

Comcast has been reaping the benefits of over selling for years and now its time to pay the piper back. They sold it this way and they didn't complain or sink every dollar of profit back into the infrastructure that they made from over selling. In my eyes they are using their customer base to slow down a competitor, and in all rights its probably against some federal law. Some sort of anti competitive law.

Cyndre··on Glass that's Stronger than Steel
It only mentions the silver as examples. The stuff they use is using palladium. Unlike silver, it produces tons of the bands that blocks it from fracturing like silver.

But the interesting part isn't the material used, but the demonstration of how to make glass thats stronger then steel. So now they just get mixing/playing and see which cheap material is best to do this with.

Cyndre··on Android - SMS are intermittently sent to wrong and seemingly random contact
Tend to disagree with this. Recently had the htc touch diamond. Then got a blackberry Storm 2 from the same carrier (telus). Bought the old phone back as a present for a friend that was going to go pay as you go (but you cant).

Then my friend tells me hes getting my text messages. Every one of them. So I get the phone back, call telus up and complain. The tech has me enter some number which opens up the config for the phone.

And low and behold I have my phone number sitting in the phone. Deleting the number stopped the text messages.

So lets think about this for a second. All I have to do to get your text messages is enter your 10 digit number into my old non active phone.

I would say security in text messaging is non existant.

FYI: Happened christmas of 2009 so it might be fixed but I doubt it.

Cyndre··on The Death Of RIM
No, the software does far more then that. http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/server/5/

And a better flash demo - http://www.blackberry.com/select/server/autodemo/1551_RIM_BE...

Cyndre··on The Death Of RIM
I think everyone is missing the one main reason blackberrys wont be replaced. The blackberry enterprise server that allows buisness's to control everything. I may be wrong in assuming the iphone/android dont have the same, but as far as I know they don't.

Having that control is very important to most companys.

Just my two cents.

Cyndre··on TSA encounter at SAN
or instead of cherry bombs why not some form of plastic explosive. The guys a suicide bomber - Someone convinced him of that and someone will convince him of this.

Or a step further and why not in the stomach cavity. Soon you will be getting full x-rays just to get on a plane.

Cyndre··on New Google AI Challenge: Planet Wars
Yet another fun challenge in the form of an AI challenge. I really enjoyed the tron ai contest and I am looking forward to this one.

Good luck Colonizing and coding.

Cyndre··on Realtime monitoring of Wikipedia edits via node.js
Would really like to see articles it links to via the reference links if it runs into another recently edited one. Actually any information that will begin to connect the articles, edits, and users together.

Cool demo and thanks for writing it.

Cyndre··on Irc bot using markov chains and individual user ranking
Posted this at 1:30 am last night and only recieved like 50 views. Last time I release late in the night.

Dying to find out what you think - my most detailed blog yet and personally Im not sure how I did. Feedback appreciated.

Cyndre··on Google Suggests changing your name, I suggest google is out of touch with tech.
But now add in a few more pieces of information. Like the city, state, country. And the type of job they are applying for. Also roughly age, previous jobs, any information listed on their resume.

By itself I agree its meaningless, but when combined with the other pieces of information the potential employer has access to it is very revealing.

Cyndre··on Google Suggests changing your name, I suggest google is out of touch with tech.
Should have thought of that one.

And in the future changing your name will result in a "Did you mean [previous name]?" link on google name search's.

Kudos to you

Cyndre··on Simple to use content creation system
Just wondering if you have any thoughts or ideas about a system like this. Or if its already been done. Even the ethics behind it would make for a good discussion.
Cyndre··on A Dramatic Demonstration of the Power of Mental Frames by Simon Singh [video]
Really liked this demonstration. I wonder what the effects of this are on investors when evaluating a unique idea.
