CrzyLngPwd··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Oh man, what a crazy time to be alive.

Over in Europe they want to read all ofd our private messages, yet these chatbots, pretending to be our friends, will snitch on us just for our thoughts.

It's getting pretty orwellian out there.

CrzyLngPwd··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
So naive.

Automation will take everything it can in a race to the bottom towards higher profits.

Your great great grandfather changed, and the automation didn't keep up.

This time it will, and there will be no safe harbor.

CrzyLngPwd··on How much oil-market buffer is left?
Trump's giant ego.
CrzyLngPwd··on How much oil-market buffer is left?
It's like a catalogue of US misadventures and ego.
CrzyLngPwd··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
lol, nice try.
CrzyLngPwd··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
Came for the news for nerds, got a blog from the BBC propaganda machine.

Anyway, I am surprised the BBC blogger didn't add north koreans and some linked it to porn on the internet.

CrzyLngPwd··on Detecting and countering misuse of AI: September 2026
I mean, tell me you don't understand sarcasm....
CrzyLngPwd··on Detecting and countering misuse of AI: September 2026
Tell us you are spying on your customers without saying you are spying on your customers.
CrzyLngPwd··on Getting your hands dirty is good for you
Not just your hands.

Walking barefoot, over all manner of surfaces, feels good, increases your connection to your surroundings, and slows you down.

I've done it lots, both in the countryside and in the city. You have to watch out for spiky plants and fox shit in the country, and in the city you soon learn which surface textures require more care :-)

"Where would I find enough leather to cover the entire surface of the earth? But with leather soles beneath my feet, it's as if the whole world has been covered." - Shantideva, 8th century Buddhist monk

CrzyLngPwd··on The Real Luxuries In Life
Grandchildren.

I have five, and they are amazing. Youngest is 9 months.

We have an old car goiong to the scrapyard in a couple of weeks, and today I sat in the passenger seat of it as my 13 yr old grandaughter drove it around one of our fields getting more and more confident as I encouraged her to stop, put it in reverse, and drive in the opposite direction.

From "this is too difficult" to "I want to be a rally driver" in a few dozen gear changes.

Memories like this are some of the luxuries of life. For her, for me, for her parents, and her siblings watching.

CrzyLngPwd··on The Post-AI Internet Doesn't Look Great
A little sick in the throat is normal.
CrzyLngPwd··on Google avoids a breakup of its ad tech business
So, essentially, a nothing burger.

As usual.

CrzyLngPwd··on My hobby of building miniatures and taking pretty pictures
Lovely work and photos :-)

When I was a child I'd spend many hours building, painting, and then distressing Airfix models, and then I went on to make my own spaceships from scraps. Ugh, how many times I would accidentally cut myself with a scalpel, lol, or drive my mum crazy with needing more of those little pots of paint.

Just typing it out brings back such fond memories. None of my grandchildren are interested in such things :-(

CrzyLngPwd··on It takes 5 cloud services to hear my doorbell
I can't imagine how much energy is wasted on what should be, a trivial thing that might run on a 9v battery for 10 years, or, like I had in a house I owned, a door bell that uses no battery at all...just a rope and a bell.
CrzyLngPwd··on The internet is kind of a predatory cesspit now
If you spend your time online, and the online time is spent on the major sirens, then yeah, it's a predatory cesspit.

No one forces anyone to use the internet, and certainly one can avoid being snared by the sirens.

A little self control goes a long way.

CrzyLngPwd··on Overcooked? Why robotic pizza makers are failing
I don't, I grow most of my own food, buy from local farmers, and cook all of my own meals from plain ingredients.

A lot of love goes into my food.

CrzyLngPwd··on Smaller reactors bring nuclear power closer to fulfilling its promise
Literaly, designed for datacenters
CrzyLngPwd··on Engineered yeast for converting plastic and biomass compounds to food additives
Yummy, can't wait to spread the packing on my plastic bread /s
CrzyLngPwd··on Overcooked? Why robotic pizza makers are failing
"I'll have no soul on mine please" :-)

Food should be prepared with love. From when the seeds are sown, to when it's arranged on the plate.

CrzyLngPwd··on VMs won't contain cyber-capable agents
Maybe it has been trained to write code and search for vulnerabilities.
CrzyLngPwd··on VMs won't contain cyber-capable agents
Surely if agents can't be contained, then neither can anyone using an agent to excape a container.
CrzyLngPwd··on Social media use on the rise among Australian under-16s after ban: data
Apple has MDM (Mobile Device Management) that locks a device down pretty well.
CrzyLngPwd··on The turbulent AI era is here
Morpheus; You think that's a genuinely concerned billionaire you are listening to?
CrzyLngPwd··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
The amount is too small, as usual, and is just a slightly annoying cost of doing business.
CrzyLngPwd··on Wiped out: US faces surging toilet paper prices amid trade war with Canada
Seems like the US has some really sticky shit problems going on, lol.
CrzyLngPwd··on Social media use on the rise among Australian under-16s after ban: data
As the father of two children who grew up with the Internet, which I restricted for them, and grandfather of five, one of which is 13, I would say yes, parents always have the ultimate say in it.

A child shouldn't even have a smartphone IMO.

CrzyLngPwd··on Social media use on the rise among Australian under-16s after ban: data
Nature finds a way :-p

Also, who allows their 10-12yr old children to use TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat, FFS!

CrzyLngPwd··on C2PA Cameras Do Not Survive Contact with Reality
C2PA was never going to work to prevent abuse, but what it will do it give false confidence.

Most people don't read HN, or understand tech, and so if the device says "captured with camera" then they will believe it since Google says it's true.

Accusing someone of a crime, with fake but verified photographic or video evidence will be trivial, and claiming it's fake just makes someone tap the "Google says it's true" sign.

CrzyLngPwd··on Iranian hackers shut down UK power plant for 4 days
That reads like a scare story for MPs so they approve more money to some dodgy outfit that will save us all from the ever growing axis of evil...again.
CrzyLngPwd··on Wi-Fi 8 is the first wireless upgrade in years that isn't chasing speed
I'd just like something that can manage 250m and a few large oak trees in between.
