ColeyG··on The Surveilled Student
Why isn't academia fixing these problems? Why us? Why are profs so lazy that they can't fix their issues? You guys are so entitled to your control that when it comes to benefitting society it goes to "nah, let the students handle the stress, we don't care if we rape them privacy wise". Sincerely Pathetic
ColeyG··on An interview with the man who keeps uploading my feet to WikiFeet

ColeyG··on What killed Haskell, could kill Rust, too
> Not because Rust is Haskell without HKTs. (Some of you know what that means, and the rest of you will wonder for a very long time)

It would make the paper more readable to newcomers to explain this. The author was too smug and as a newer person in the Rust community I wish people who cared enough about writing papers also cared about making them accessible :/

ColeyG··on I built an app to fix my depression
Are you a doctor?
ColeyG··on I built an app to fix my depression
This is a really hurtful and dangerous line of thinking. Imagine if you went to a Doctor and they said "you came to me to fix the problem, therefore you must not be sick".

This implies to be depressed you MUST be the worst form of depressed, or nearly suicidal to be deserving of help.

ColeyG··on Relativty – An open-source VR headset
Not the OP but I thought it was miss-spelled at first.
ColeyG··on Is TDD Dead? (2014)
This idea doesn't make sense to me. Mind elaborating?
ColeyG··on Show HN: We build a calendar for people that schedule to-dos
I love the ui and feel. I am definitely interested because I've felt the need for a little more precise control like this. Keep up the updates!
ColeyG··on Automotive Grade Linux
Do you have any resources or guides on how to get suspend to ram working?
ColeyG··on A tale of webpage speed, or throwing away React
Right? I think there was something architecturally wrong with the app that the refactor fixed. It doesn't sound like react was the problem here. I sincerely don't believe that this sort of change and therefore the decrying of react for it makes much sense at all without seeing this guy's code.
ColeyG··on WordPress claims Apple cut off updates to its free app because it wants 30%
https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/22/21397424/apple-wordpress-...

Thankfully, they've reversed the attack... I hope Apple loses to Epic, they go way too far and this is just another example regardless of back-tracking.

ColeyG··on No Hello (2013)
You are entirely missing the point of async comms then Imo. If I want a synchronous conversation I'll schedule a meeting or a phone call. If I need to be zoned in on an IM client, then the system has failed its use case.
ColeyG··on Create and view interactive cheatsheets on the command-line
I want to echo what you are saying a little bit. I have never learned something from a man page. Maybe it is because they provide full documentation but that is very rarely actually useful when using commands.

That is what excited me about this. Maybe cli apps will see this example and try to document how to use it in this way. Infinitely more usable in my opinion.

ColeyG··on Planet Ceres is an 'ocean world' with sea water beneath surface, mission finds
I like this line of thinking way better lol
ColeyG··on Alcohol as a social technology to check the trustworthiness of others (2014)
This comes off as crazy and abusive gaslighting behaviour to me. I understand that founders being somewhat narcissistic is almost cliché at this point but that is behaviour that no human should be proud of...
ColeyG··on Stop Abusing Semver
It seems like people think Semver is some sort of magic. I totally agree it should just be about release communication.
ColeyG··on “Irregardless” is part of a penumbra of unorthodox English words
Not commenting on the content of your comment but what the hell is your formatting?
ColeyG··on Luigi Model found in Mario 64 source code
Most software isn't released anymore. Most times pipelines will gobble up your changes and ship immediately after review. I don't see how this would work for your team.
ColeyG··on Luigi Model found in Mario 64 source code
Right, this is something I've been talking about on other forums as well. I can almost see the thumbnails already circling Luigi's model with a shocked expression....
ColeyG··on Elo sucks – better multiplayer rating systems for smaller games (2019)
In certain communities, players will choose ranked vs. unranked almost always. I agree that a ranked + custom lobby model should exist though.
ColeyG··on Why Do We Have Dev Rels Now?
I skimmed the article but didn't find it at a glance. Isn't it blog 101 to ensure your readers now this stuff?
ColeyG··on How the Unix philosophy gave us “web apps” instead of “software”
> Apps often don't do this very well or at all.

To be fair, I think the microservice architecture addresses this idea on the web. Moving towards smaller interoperable pieces is something that the internet has been doing for a bit Imo

ColeyG··on The international student bait-and-switch
Yeah, I agree with that. I guess I just mean I think it distracts a little bit and makes the point weaker overall. No one should be treated like that though, and I wholly believe that there is suffering associated with that
ColeyG··on The international student bait-and-switch
Shouldn't International Students have to "pay a full ride"? I mean most of the stipulations with grants are intended to keep the knowledge and donations within the community. That seems entitled and very "woe is me" to me.
ColeyG··on Building a self-updating profile README for GitHub
Open source projects are most commonly found on github.
ColeyG··on 11 Foot 8 – The Can-opener Bridge
I was about to mention a similar feeling. This place feels sacred in an indescribable way.
ColeyG··on Cervus – A WebAssembly Subsystem for Linux (2018)
The words "Cervus" and "Linux" so close together has me reading cervix every time
ColeyG··on A casino card shark’s first time getting caught
This is a confusing misinterpretation of the parent comment. He isn't saying it isn't easy to count cards, rather that there isn't a widely seen public method to do it in 2020, and that there isn't math to prove it is profitable with casinos targeting advantaged players.
