CodeSheikh··on Titans of Mathematics Clash Over Epic Proof of ABC Conjecture
My God! This Titans' website needs urgent attention: http://www.kurims.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~motizuki/top-english.html
CodeSheikh··on Are New York’s Free LinkNYC Internet Kiosks Tracking Your Movements?
"...code collects the user’s longitude and latitude, as well as the user’s browser type, operating system, device type, device identifiers, and full URL clickstreams (including date and time) and aggregates this information into a database."

Aren't all mobile phones browsers collect this data any way? If your location privacy is enabled to be shared by the browser. I am not sure what this student found beyond this which is worth raising brows.

Also, 3 cameras system in each kiosk is indeed creepy.

CodeSheikh··on Is “data scientist” the new “programmer”?
In the absence of marketeers (think bootcamps) and recruiters the alternative or correct title would have been: 'Is “statistician” the new “programmer”?'
CodeSheikh··on SETI spots dozens of new mysterious signals emanating from distant galaxy
Or perhaps we are a only advanced civilization in the known universe and other civilizations are using some lo-tech method of communication like creating sounds or fire signals. Add we are looking for only high-tech modes of communications.
CodeSheikh··on Who Invented the iPhone?
Title should be "Who Innovated the iPhone?"
CodeSheikh··on Amazon's Bezos Launches $2B Fund to Help the Homeless
Another problem for another thread. This will not silence the critics of salary issues at Aamzon warehouse. Give it a few weeks and you will read it for yourself in the news.
CodeSheikh··on Amazon's Bezos Launches $2B Fund to Help the Homeless
I dont't care if this is a PR stint to ward of recent criticism Bezos is getting from Bernie et al but if this fund goes and actually help and make a real life impact on the lives of homeless people, then I am fine and I will hold back my criticism of Amazon. I mean clearly I have not done enough to mitigate homelessness in this country who am I to question others motives trying to solve the same problem?
CodeSheikh··on Where in the World Is Larry Page?
It is interesting they had "GOOGLE" printed on the reserved seat. Where in reality Sundar Pichai is the ceo of Google and Larry Page is the ceo of Alphabet. So the Senate committee was actually expecting Mr. Pichai and Bloomberg got it wrong.
CodeSheikh··on Amazon is stuffing its search results pages with ads
Gone are the days when you go to Amazon.com for bargain shopping or in search for better deals. I look at Amazon's Prime service as a shipping company. I like 1-2 days shipping service and sometimes I would pay a buck or two more for a product of Amazon Prime can ship it.
CodeSheikh··on New Planes That May Change Travel
These are not newer planes but iterations of existing models. Granted that airline industry is slower in churning out newer planes than say automobile for obvious reasons, but you don't say Nissan is launching a newer car called Altima TTZ.

However, for the sake of the argument if any iterations of these existing planes is worth citing as a "newer" plane then IMO it is A350-1000ULR which is going to operate the longest flights ever from Australia to New York/Johannesburg/London/Brazil https://www.ausbt.com.au/airbus-mulls-ultra-long-range-a350-...

CodeSheikh··on Quantum computing is almost ready for business, startup says
The title is helluva misleading. AWS cloud became "The AWS" because there was already a huge tried and tested market of traditional computers (literally 99.9999% of modern computing is 2 bit computing). They sure can become the pioneers of offering large scale subscription based quantum computing. It is annoying how marketers will go above and beyond to generalize terms just to convey their point. I wish them best of luck and hopefully they will introduce quantum computing to an average joe programmer.

Any alt recommendation for Flask+Connexion?

CodeSheikh··on How Indian Americans Came to Run Half of All U.S. Motels
Is the author generalizing other South Asian immigrants as Indian Americans? Or is it factual that Indian-Americans do own 50% of motels in the USA? Because I have seen a lot of Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and even Arabs owning motel businesses across the USA. I am not cleared about this just from reading the article alone.
CodeSheikh··on Mercedes Readies First Tesla Rival in $12B Attack
Now would be a good time to re-visit "Who Killed the Electric Car?" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489037/
CodeSheikh··on How TripAdvisor Changed Travel
Any good alternatives to TripAdvisor?

What about: - Conde Nast [www.condenast.com] - TripSavvy [www.tripsavvy.com]

CodeSheikh··on San Francisco's zoning makes it illegal to build apartments in 73.5% of the city
Still USA citizens, not ideal either.
CodeSheikh··on I’m Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
If you have not heard about "consultancies" yet then I am not sure how come you have not come across it during your immigration law practice.
CodeSheikh··on San Francisco's zoning makes it illegal to build apartments in 73.5% of the city
Stop selling real estate to foreign investors and we might be able to solve one piece of the puzzle. NYC/SF has same issues. Greedy American based real estate investments companies are corroding the system for rest of us.
CodeSheikh··on I’m Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
Should there be a separate employment visa category for applicants who obtain education from USA and for applicants who come to USA via "consultancies"?
CodeSheikh··on Lyft Follows Uber Into Bike-Sharing Lane, Buying Owner of CitiBike
I thought CitiBike was owned by Citi bank.
CodeSheikh··on Plastic recycling is a problem consumers can't solve
Here's an idea, why not collect all the soda bottles and place them in front of respective corporate head quarters? I am sure Coca Cola will get a kick out of it and they might do something about creating a recycling program.
CodeSheikh··on Flights to Rome
Trust me, you are not doing justice to these visuals by browsing this site on a phone.
CodeSheikh··on Why China doesn’t dominate soccer
This is not specific to China but many larger countries who are good at other sports but they don't do well at soccer. Australia is very good at Rugby, Cricket but their soccer team is average and they make it to world cups only because of limited competition in their confederation (OFC). Domestic soccer leagues are just picking up in China. They mostly comprise to Chinese players and/or end up with retirees of European clubs (Retired Andre Iniesta of Barcelona/Spain moving to some club in China).
CodeSheikh··on 'Facebook is taking everything': rising rents drive out Silicon Valley families
I think it becomes a race issue when majority of those displaced families are immigrants and out of those majority are Hispanic families. Yes, I agree there will always be a couple of poor white families out of 100 displaced families but it is not fair to say it is NOT a race issue and just a class issue.
CodeSheikh··on AT&T, Time Warner, and the Need for Neutrality
What might happen is AT&T is going to show certain content to its cellular customers that otherwise it would have to pay licensing fees to TW. For example live games, certain movies. And not charge any data rates for those streams only. They are going to package all of this as another tier of data plans etc. Think of it as as Tmobile+Netflix promotion but at a whole new level.
CodeSheikh··on Just How Much Money Do “Influencers” Make?
Do this and risk getting buried deep in Instagram trending and popular accounts. A quick rule of thumb is say you have 1M users but you are only getting likes in few hundreds per post than that means you bought most of your users from a click farm. Marketers have evolved as well.
CodeSheikh··on Country Time Lemonade Will Pay Legal Fees for Unlicensed Lemonade Stands
HOA is a metaphorical termite. If you are planning on buying a new house buy into some old neighborhood. It i not worth dealing with them just for the sake of someone cutting your grass once a week.
CodeSheikh··on Microsoft has sunk a data centre in the sea to investigate energy efficiency
At first I read it as "Microsoft has sunk GitHub in the sea...".

Sigh my brain is trained to see MS+GitHub wherever I read a news article about MW or GH as a result of all the hype for past two days.

CodeSheikh··on GitHub was talking to Google but went with Microsoft instead
Don't you guys think that GitHub was meant to give heads up about acquisition to its subscribers, at least to premium users? Yes this would give away the whole "secret" but if acquirer is some evil corp? Or a foreign entity? I feel like there is an important law missing regarding acquisition of companies who run premium plans.
CodeSheikh··on Apple will attempt to jam Facebook's web-tracking tools
They way I use Facebook and the kind of information I have shared with it (photos, places, connections) I have already established a valid identity with them. I don't use Facebook as some anon profile "LonelyGirl99". By paying them a premium fee Facebook and I would bind into a new agreement about not persisting my information for ad tracking and wherever possible ask its third party affiliates to do the same. Say you and I are both logged in and actively commenting on TechCrunch. You are a free user and I pay premium. TechCrunch can request FB to have metrics for free users but not for premium. Unless FB provides a backdoor, has a bug or TechCrunch savvy programmers can hack FB social plugin to extract info about premium users as well. Similarly, FB will also not sell my meta-data to advertisers. Even if I fall well into the targeting of advertisers I will be excluded. FB will not even give me "opt-out" options. I will be opted-out by default unless I choose I want to be opt-in. I will have more tight control over shared entities as well. If my ex tagged me in his/her pictures and then we are unfriended, then I would still have the option to go through his/her pictures and choose to remove myself (I think FB allows this currently anyway). Basically the contract b/w me and FB will be iron clad.
