CoBE10··on Think of Pavlov
Truly a sitcom worthy story.
CoBE10··on Archive or Delete?
For my personal mail I like using labels in Gmail instead of archive button. Basically, I categorize mail in a few categories:

1. Receipts, bill, utilities, etc. (Sublabel for every company)

2. Friends&Family (Sublabel for every person)

3. School and school related (Sublabel for every person)

4. Government and government related (Sublabel by organization)

5. Random and miscellaneous

It's archive, but somewhat organized

CoBE10··on Mastodon updates its terms to prohibit AI model training
It’s fairly clear that this happened because they want to discourage AI scraping. But what does this mean for the Internet Archive? Is it really so strict that no new posts can be archived?

CoBE10··on [dead]
An adequate summary of Collier's critique can be found in the video (starting at 1:56:13): "I've started this whole project thinking: 'Oh my God, I hate Richard Feynman. He's such an a*hole.' But that doesn't make sense. I don't know anything about Richard Feynman. And now I am here—Richard Feynman never wrote a book. Richard Feynman constantly made up stories. He was a showman. Does anybody know anything about Richard Feynman? Can you hate a guy that does not exist? The legend of Richard Feynman is based on nothing about Feynman at all..."

CoBE10··on The word 'bot' is increasingly being used as an insult on social media
Wasn't this an old school insult back from CS 1.6 days (probably even before), or was it only used among my friends?
CoBE10··on Mexican Computers: A Brief Technical and Historical Overview
This feels like something Asianometry could make a video about.
CoBE10··on Coding and Keyboards (2023)
As a Serbian keyboard user, I really dislike these keys: \ [] {} |. They always mess up my typing flow. The layout seems to prioritize punctuation like : , ; and - over the symbols needed for programming and markup, making them easier to reach compared to an English keyboard. It’s great for writing regular text, but when it comes to using LaTeX, it’s a pain since typing \ [] {} | feels like doing gymnastics with my fingers.
CoBE10··on Inventing my own writing system for English, VJScript
We've come the full circle with writing letters above words. Reminds me of old medieval Slavic texts: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Miroslav...

CoBE10··on Microwaves Not Made in China
If your food ends up with freezing cold and boiling hot spots after microwaving, it’s probably because of how you’re using the microwave. Don’t use the high setting on completely frozen foods. Set it to medium instead. This gives the food time to heat up evenly. Microwaves mostly heat the surface, so a medium setting works better for even cooking.

CoBE10··on Framework's software and firmware have been a mess, but it's working on them
From personal experience (I don't use SD cards often) I would rather have another USB A or C port instead of SD port. USB SD card readers are so much cheaper and smaller than Framework expansion cards, that having one in a bag takes less space, and you can carry them like USB flash drive.
CoBE10··on How Quora died
I remember someone asking a question on Quora around 2015: "How long do you think Quora would last?" Someone answered that it probably would not last more than the next 5 years. I forgot what were the actual reasons he gave, but it gave me such an uneasy feeling that Quora could die in the next 5 years. Looking back at it now, it's probably around 2015 that it started becoming what it is today - SEO spam.
CoBE10··on Common Voice
I'd like to give a shout-out to Common Voice Android: https://github.com/Sav22999/common-voice-android

It's a handy app for those interested in contributing to the project. You can record voices for the languages you speak and validate other user contributions. I used to be a frequent contributor about two years ago, and this app had a much more user-friendly design compared to the official website version.

Additionally, check out the official Common Voice Matrix channel: https://chat.mozilla.org/#/room/#common-voice:mozilla.org

CoBE10··on Razor 1911
I remember a certain Skyrim installer that was created by them. The progress bar would only update every 25%, and on my slow PC, it felt like an eternity waiting for the game to install. Also, if I recall correctly, the installer didn't create a desktop shortcut, so you had to hunt down where the game was installed. Those were certainly some memorable times.

CoBE10··on Goodreads is terrible for books – why can’t we all quit it?
I always wanted a book site similar to what RateYourMusic has for music and film. Librarything has always been better imo.
CoBE10··on Firefox desktop extensions coming soon for the upcoming Android release
Great! Firefox on Android was perfect until it was redesigned, and only a few extensions were allowed. I switched to the Kiwi Browser just because of that. I hope that it will work as well as it did before the extensions were removed, so I can go back.
CoBE10··on Brave Search launches own image and video search
In the last few months Bing has been much more reliable for me at reverse finding original sources of cover album images that have been posted on Discogs. Google seems to not give me images that have been posted a long time ago (10+ years maybe), but Bing still does.

CoBE10··on Valgrind recieves a development microgrant from FUTO
As far as I understand it, microgrants are given out every month by people within FUTO, as a thank-you to software... that is used by people withing the organization. From the video they did in May, I think those grants are about $1000.

CoBE10··on Dodgy Rarbg Knockoffs Thrive as Former Users Seek Refuge
Note that if you are looking for a decent RarBG alternative, a semi-private tracker like TorrentLeech is a good place to be. They are currently accepting RarBG refuges. You will however be expected to seed a torrent for 10 days or upload until 1.0 ratio. I will also recommend to new users to seed as much as they can and to only download freeleech torrent until you get enough torrent ratio credits.

CoBE10··on Brave Browser introduces vertical tabs
I've been using Firefox with Tab Center Reborn, and a config which collapses the tabs so only the favicons are visible. Using Shift-Tab, Ctrl-Shift-Tab and Ctrl-T, Ctrl-W to go around and open/close is so logical for me. First time I heard about Tree style tabs I was so against them because they occupied significant amount of space and I didn't know you could collapse them. I don't see myself ever going back horizontal tabs. Vertical is so much better, especially on smaller screen (like 1366x768), where horizontal space isn't needed that much as vertical is.
