CmonDev··on 1,000 tech experts warn against AI arms race
I don't understand what kind of AI/robotics we are talking about here:

- weak non-self-replicating;

- weak self-replicating;

- strong.

Besides, maybe it's an egoistic point of view. Many species have perished while humanity established itself. Does it really matter if we go extinct, if the result is going to be a superior species?

Tax dodging, conspiracy to suppress salaries, non-meritocratic compensation policies - the list goes on.
CmonDev··on Ask HN: What should I do if I feel burnt out?
Maybe he is an expert in both neuroscience AND bone surgery.

CmonDev··on New Court Evidence Reveals Hollywood’s Plan to Smear Google
Can you really smear a company who's reputation is already beyond repair?
CmonDev··on The Skysphere
By the end of 3 years it is no longer high-tech.
CmonDev··on Ask HN: What's the hardest problem you've ever solved?
To sum up: dealing with other people's non-open-source code. Various COM APIs for example.

CmonDev··on The Weakness of the .NET OSS Ecosystem
Not really, they struggle to gain any significant traction.

Can you clarify: you mean implementing custom solutions at employer's cost or solving employer's tech problems in your own time?

CmonDev··on Hello again • Joshua Topolsky
TL;DR (between the lines): the money was good, performance was good, but the management was not flexible enough; off to make a next startup (animated parallax HTML5 pages are to be expected).
CmonDev··on Announcing .NET Framework 4.6
Really? Stay away from Java then :):

CmonDev··on Announcing .NET Framework 4.6
> huge for gaming

Not really, as they have no story for Mono not to mention ARM NEON support.

CmonDev··on .NET Native Performance
> "Pay-for-Play Reflection"

Native and allowing reflection? I am now much less interested in M#.

CmonDev··on .NET Native Performance
I would like it on Android and iOS via updated Mono.
CmonDev··on Create a character voting app using React, Node.js, MongoDB and Socket.io
Is it really a "full-stack" "app"? Sounds more like a set of scripts:

> "...using React, Node.js, MongoDB and Socket.IO..."

CmonDev··on Robotic Surgery Linked to 144 Deaths Since 2000
Well, if they have published the stats based on the type of surgeon's life form, they should've also included races and genders of surgeons :-(.
CmonDev··on Announcing TypeScript 1.5
Yes, but who has the patience to wait another 5+ years to get ES7?
CmonDev··on Announcing the RTM of Visual F# 4.0
Funny pattern: F# news are typically upvoted but discussions are rare. Is it due to many people thinking it's nice in theory but hesitant to use it in practice?
CmonDev··on Never, ever, ever use MongoDB
I thought it cannot get worse than dynamic languages, but then they invented document databases.

CmonDev··on Ask HN: Tutorials for game engine development?
Isn't he building a game rather than an engine?

You beat me to the "But what about [an obvious exception to the general rule and a couple of anecdotal samples]?".
CmonDev··on Is growth in the financial sector good for the economy?
Since it's no longer a Free Market, might as well go with a planned economy - now that supercomputers allow for actual real-time planning.
CmonDev··on Do we need browsers?
Yes, we do - for hypertext documents - as per original design. Retrofitted JavaScript - we don't.
CmonDev··on Do we need browsers?
WebAssembly is the latest hope.
CmonDev··on Visual Studio 2015 Final Release Event
But it's like a notepad at the moment though (no refactoring) - so any language goes?
CmonDev··on Microsoft Edge and Web Components
No longer thought leaders, but doing homework well.
CmonDev··on Microsoft Edge and Web Components
Android is the new Windows.
CmonDev··on No Bad Things: Growing up with obsessive-compulsive disorder
> ...lest I add another compulsion to my list of OCD habits...

It's very tempting, but this is what prevents me from sharing :). Mine are all "reasonable" meaning that there IS a miniscule chance of something happening, so better check it N amount of times, where N is a number that follows specific rules. I guess I could only "contract" a "reasonable" one, e.g. some of the Tesla's habits "make sense".
