Clex··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (October 2024)
Vaayu | Remote (European Timezones) | Full-Time | https://www.vaayu.tech/

At Vaayu, we're on a mission to fight climate change by helping e-commerce retailers measure and reduce their carbon emissions. E-commerce has a significant climate impact, and calculating carbon manually can be time-consuming and costly. Our goal is to make carbon analytics accessible to every online retailer, empowering them to take control of their environmental footprint.

Our automated software is already trusted by sustainability leaders such as Klarna, Wunderman Thompson, Vinted, Ace & Tate, Adevinta or New Balance, linking up with shop platforms to deliver the tools necessary for retailers to take charge of their environmental footprint.

We are a distributed company based in Berlin, with an international and diverse team throughout Europe.

We are looking for a mid-level Golang engineer to join our team. Experience working with large existing codebases is a plus.

If you’re an innovator and want to work in a purpose-driven startup, we’d love to hear from you! To apply, email me at clem [at] vaayu [dot] tech, please mention HN in the subject.

Clex··on Launching the Libre Tech Shop
Great project! I'd suggest adding a <meta charset="UTF-8"> to the Mostly Harmless website to fix some mojibake that I ran into.
Clex··on Lightweight Alternatives to Google Analytics
Google Analytics has a "bot filtering" option that works pretty well (even though it's not perfect). Do the alternatives also have similar features? There is a lot of automated traffic on the internet.
Clex··on Show HN: Planning poker online – estimate tasks without influencing others
The words "poker online" will trigger all the antispams you can think of
Clex··on Ask HN: Which is the most successful one-person business you heard of in 2019?
Signing up to SideProjectors using Twitter requires permissions to follow, unfollow, tweet, update account info, read direct messages, etc. That's extremely scary.
Clex··on Go Language – Web Application Secure Coding Practices
Go has also an amazing static-analysis tool, vet, that is not mentioned in the article: https://golang.org/cmd/vet/

It can find printf-format errors, invalid shifts, unreachable code, etc.

Even though go vet is very helpful, it is sometimes scary that the compiler allows to build such incorrect code. For instance: https://play.golang.org/p/2AVHUt5Wcf

Clex··on Show HN: UrlRoulette – Pass a URL to the next visitor
You test the URL with a HEAD method that often 404. You should try with GET instead.
Clex··on Raspberry Turk
Congrats for such a great project! Does the robot can promote pieces by itself?
Clex··on Show HN: SpreadsheetDB – A database that you can query with spreadsheets
Fixed, thank you.
Clex··on Show HN: SpreadsheetDB – A database that you can query with spreadsheets
Thanks for the feedback, that will get fixed soon.
Clex··on Show HN: SpreadsheetDB – A database that you can query with spreadsheets
Thank you for the kind words!

Airtable is really neat indeed. But SpreadsheetDB aims to be more a database with an alternative paradigm than an actual spreadsheet editor.

Regarding the stack, it is made with Go and Postgres.

Clex··on Announcing Free and Automated SSL Certs
This is great news, thanks Heroku. This feature sticks well to their "code, we do the rest" philosophy.

I hope the other PaaS will follow.

Clex··on Go 2016 Survey Results
This is absolutely true, the standard library is very easy to read and this makes using Go very pleasant. When you compare this with C and the libc, the contrast is striking.
Clex··on Ask HN: What's the best investment you've made?

Here's mine :

    $ cat test.c
    #include <stdio.h>
