ChrisWint··on DoomBench – Can Your Data Stack Run Doom?
I guess modern database systems are easily fast enough to emulate a high-end PC from the early nineties, so there is a probably a lot of untapped potential for other games as well.
ChrisWint··on Building a DOOM-like multiplayer shooter in pure SQL
Depends on what you mean by "works" I guess. The statements all look like PostgreSQL SQL and should, therefore, all work. That said, they are pretty heavy duty, especially the recursive Ray tracing, so I expect it to lag quite a bit.
ChrisWint··on When are SSDs slow?
Author of that blogpost here.

In that case it was about 2.5x faster than DuckDB end to end, so a bit less than the difference in branches.

If you want to see some independent benchmarks on Umbra, our underlying technology, its currently first place on Clickbench [1]. You can compare against duckdb there as well.

I can recommend the lecture for implementing database systems by Thomas Neumann, who spearheaded the Umbra system which CedarDB builds on. The slides and lecture recordings are available online:
