ChiperSoft··on Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password?
Exactly, Omarchy is little more than a wrapper around Arch, why not just donate to Arch directly?

The entire thing has a smell to it, like theres some weird tax avoidance happening or something.

ChiperSoft··on The Silo · interactive 3D cutaway
Yeah, there's a lot here that is inaccurate to both the tv show and the books. There are no walls around the stairs at most levels. It also seems to depict silo 17 as mostly flooded, when it was only the lower 30 floors.
ChiperSoft··on You probably own this 7-Eleven (and that's why it looks so sad)
The sheer cost of storefront space is also a factor. Retail rents are even more ludicrous than apartments.
ChiperSoft··on Apple used to be weirder and maybe more fun
Smaller companies usually are
ChiperSoft··on SK Hynix CEO sees memory chip shortage lasting until 2030
Oh its probably that again

ChiperSoft··on Notes on Private Trackers
Not that stupid, considering the word Torrent doesn't appear above the fold. Took me a while to figure out as well.
ChiperSoft··on Xcena and Samsung's Near Memory Compute CXL Device
I don't get it, isn't this just reinventing blade servers?
ChiperSoft··on Twitter (Not affiliated with X Corp)
There is an active court case to determine this. Bluebird asserts that rebranding the company to X is trademark abandonment. XCorp of course says "nuh uh"

ChiperSoft··on The internet is kind of a predatory cesspit now
That paragraph jumped out to me, as well. Thats also when the writing got very long winded and seemed to be repeating itself.
ChiperSoft··on Senator calls for criminal investigation of RFK Jr after Guardian report
Trump will just pardon him like everyone else
ChiperSoft··on Launching Route 53 Files
Are there that many people managing their dns by hand that they need this? Outside of various txt records, most of my domains are mapped to specific resources via automation.

ChiperSoft··on Apple Event Announced for September 9: 'Surprise and Shine'
No new ipad, dang. The thing is two years over due for a bump.

ChiperSoft··on AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds
For those who don't know the acronym: ZIRP = Zero Interest Rate Policy

And yes, when I saw the headline my first thought was "it's not AI, nobody is expanding their staff".

When interest rates are high, companies and investors don't take out loans, which means no capital for new projects.

ChiperSoft··on The Future of CSS: Target Multiple Classes with the Class Prefix Selector
Then you still need a btn class for styling anchor tags
ChiperSoft··on Aluminum Frame PC Fan Corsi-Rosenthal Build (2023)
This would be a neat thing for case makers like coolermaster or corsair to do a one-off of while the self build market is slumped.
ChiperSoft··on When I worked at Apple, I remember seeing code that was 15 years old
The irony of this metaphor is that new housing construction these days is really bad, just watch any of the inspectors posting to youtube or tiktok. Even those new 3d printed houses are crumbling after a year, and they can't be fixed because of the way they're built.

We had better built houses when they came as kits from Sears than we have today.

ChiperSoft··on Wellington second-hand bookstore's mysterious orders
How are they finding these books to order? I can't find used bookstores online anywhere.
ChiperSoft··on The price of a Costco hot dog has gone up
You know they will give you as many onions as you want, yeah? You just have to ask at the counter.
ChiperSoft··on "That's not SOC 2 compliant"
I went into reading this not knowing what amp makes, and at the end of the article was like "see now this sounds like a company who absolutely wouldn't fuck with vibe coding"...

Then I realized what amp makes and had an extremely visceral reaction.

Y'all just running your business on hopes and dreams out here.

ChiperSoft··on Ask HN: How do you keep up with HN these days?
I follow a fedi bot that posts any thread that shows up on the front page.
ChiperSoft··on HTML over WebSockets: real-time SPAs with barely any JavaScript
Is this satire? Rage bait? Why would you ever do this?

Just make a normal website!! You've invented an MPA with extra steps!

ChiperSoft··on Bluesky's active user base is shrinking as its focus expands beyond the app
Mastodon's is at least just scoped to your own server, so it has a small chance of being relevant (assuming you picked any instance other than m.s)
ChiperSoft··on Bluesky's active user base is shrinking as its focus expands beyond the app
Until your thumb slips while trying to hit the dots, the post gets focused, and now you're spending the next three hours telling the algorithm to stop showing you diaper kink artwork because it thinks you must be into that since you looked closer at it.

Almost as bad as tiktok repeatedly showing you promos for the same product because you didn't swipe away in less than five seconds.

ChiperSoft··on Never Bet Against Elon
Don't bet on him, either. The man is his own worst enemy.
ChiperSoft··on Tech leaders say AI means less work – staff say they work up to 90 hours a week
> A "sprint" is term for a common period in technology companies in which people work long hours in the weeks leading up to a release of a new feature or product.

Alright, who bullshitted to the BBC? I know its fun to mess with the normies, but that was just mean.

ChiperSoft··on Fixing my tooltip accessibility mistake
I appreciate the diff lines in each progressive code example, makes it really easy to follow
ChiperSoft··on Monitors for Work
> They are wider than is comfortable to view at once

Which is why you don't code fullscreen.

ChiperSoft··on Monitors for Work
This wouldn't happen to be in San Diego County, would it? I interviewed at a place a while back where every desk had friggen 1080p televisions on it. Classic case of the owner having some genius idea to save money.

I did not accept the job.
