Does it though? Sure, it has different threat models, and you may choose to assign it different trust levels, but fundamentally (as I understand it) every session token _is_ a secret key, with added benefits.
Good for them. If the quality bar holds, they deserve to be rewarded.
Based on personal anecdata, the quality bar does not hold. Not in India, nor anywhere else.
Why employers can't see this on the balance sheet is a different discussion.
Rocket Man and Orange Man have more in common than I _ever_ would have imagined if you'd asked me five years ago.
Have fun y'all. I'm resisting the clickbait and going back to building things and trying to get a stable paycheck.
Nice options ITT.
Grumpy USA noises :D
Point of clarity, configuring docker and CI is to be considered extremely optional for a solo hack. But I do feel your pain in regards to building foundations instead of building features. You gotta do what brings you joy.
We'd recover vast institutional waste by removing health insurance as we know it from the equation - or at least by empowering providers to get paid by whomever they please. But until that (never) happens, we can at least make it less bad through automation.

Then your priorities are probably fucked. Assuming this isn't just a devil's advocate hypothetical.
_Using_ LI, costs attention too, increasingly so, as with all social networks, but you also receive some in exchange, so if you don't value your own attention all that much higher than every other human's on the planet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
...yeah, it's pride.
If we want to speak in absolutes, entropy cannot be reduced; we will only capture so much energy over time, and I refer you to http://www.thelastquestion.net/
If we get a little zen and allow for the ever-elusive human joy to be the ultimate resource, then I'm not sure we can necessarily say that it's finite. I guess without humans there can be no human joy, but why not machine/post/trans-human joy?
Whoever dies with the most toys wins, right? :)

> Me: What is the etymology of "education"? > ChatGPT: The word "education" comes from the Latin word "educare," which means "to bring up" or "to rear." "Educare" is derived from another Latin word, "educere," which means "to lead out" or "to draw out." The concept behind "education" is closely tied to the idea of drawing out or developing the inherent abilities, talents, and knowledge within an individual. Over time, the term "education" has come to encompass the process of teaching, training, and nurturing someone's intellectual, moral, and social growth.
> Me: What is the etymology of "indoctrination"? > ChatGPT: The word "indoctrination" has its roots in the Latin language. It is derived from two Latin words: "in" and "doctrina." > The prefix "in" in Latin often denotes "into" or "inward." The word "doctrina" in Latin means "teaching" or "instruction." > When combined, "in" and "doctrina" form the Latin verb "indoctrinare," which means "to teach" or "to instruct." Over time, "indoctrination" has taken on a more specific connotation, referring to the process of imparting beliefs, ideas, or a particular ideology to someone, often in a forceful or uncritical manner. > It's worth noting that while "education" generally refers to a broader process of learning and intellectual development, "indoctrination" carries the notion of teaching in a way that is heavily influenced by a specific agenda or set of beliefs.
Education is showing a customer the door, or if you like leading the horse to water. Indoctrination is frogmarching the prisoner, or drowning the horse.

Point of clarity, the devices we are discussing are neither telephones, nor are they general purpose.
They are smartphones, a sort of miniature computer with a bunch of general-purpose sensors, and actuators viz. a screen and a speaker and some haptic feedback. They don't really do much computing per se; we outsourced most of that to The Cloud some 15-odd years ago. These things are just highly capable I/O devices, or clever terminals if you prefer.
And while Android has the PlayStore or whatever they call it this week, one can usually choose to load rogue APKs and one can usually succeed; and things like the Pinephone or Fairphone have been attempted that leave more power (and responsibility) in the hands of the user, but in practice it seems that they simply don't _work_ that well.
I agree with you wholeheartedly; I just think the "if" part is a bit out of sync with reality.
Actually, there's a whole set of mental heuristics that are evolving in my head surrounding monthly-recurring-discretionary-fixed-costs, as compared with the cost of a $BEVERAGE at the $VENUE. It runs the gamut from a $5/mo DO droplet, which costs a Bier vom Fass in your average pub in Germany and grants me a public-facing static IP, to a $20/mo donation to Wikipedia, which costs a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel and grants me a clear conscience when I dismiss its increasingly concerning[0] petitions to donate.
All that said, in addition to the booze quotient, one also has to compare the more nebulous cost of _providing payment credentials at all_ to a new party which didn't have them before; i.e., enlarging your digital footprint[1]. This often must include a mailing address and/or a phone number. In the event of a breach, the consequences to the payor range from a mere uptick in spam/robocalls/junk mail to identity theft and all that entails. We can agree the dollar here is a huge wildcard, just like the odds of it happening at all. It varies by individual, is usually unquantified, my point is the cost/benefit gets real muddy, real fast.
Your mileage will vary.

Sounds rhetorical, but I ask sincerely.
