CathayRe··on Hong Kong Airport shuts down as protesters take over
>The much more likely explanation to all these is incompetence, rather than conspiracy.

Given the sensitive nature of the bill, and its timing, and She has shown her understanding in how US / China / HK operate in both Financial and political levels.

And it was clear the bill wasn't put forward by CCP either, it was someone else ( or Carrie Lam )'s idea.

I find it hard to believe all of these are incompetence and coincidence. Not saying Carrie Lam is a CIA agent, but something is definitely not right.

CathayRe··on Apple explores moving 15-30% of production capacity from China
>In fact it can be racist even if the same person accepts e.g. Japan, as Japan and Korea faced the same dismissals in the 60s to 80s (as copiers, second rate quality places, corrupt states, etc) before being accepted.

They also had a democratic process, a lawful system ( bias or not ) in place where many of these issues can be solved diplomatically.

Not the same of China, everything is tangled together. CCP.

CathayRe··on China Summons Tech Giants to Warn Against Cooperating with Trump Ban
>Also I think China hasn’t required Chinese ownership of foreign companies for over two decades now.

That is so far from the truth. And Tesla's case, ( I think ) it was because it was set up in a Special Economic Zone. Not to mention part of the deal was to have a JV / Partnership in battery construction. i.e Using Chinese Battery. ( Majority of the BOM in a EV )

China knows how to play its card.

CathayRe··on Chinese developers fear the tech war will cost them access to GitHub
Yes, and surprisingly enough, even in US and many part of Western Europe.

The problem is China has been playing their developing country card for far too long, and if we have to argue a Country with GDP that is either 1st or 2nd by different way of measurement as developing country I think we can agree to disagree.

CathayRe··on Chinese developers fear the tech war will cost them access to GitHub
It is basically the standard with all developing countries joining the WTO where by they are allowed and even encourage to do this as an under developed country.

The problem is China is no longer one, or at leats most countries doesn't think it is anymore. And has failed to abide by what they promised when they joined WTO. Or you can blame it on US for letting them joining without clear cut rules and terms in the first place.

CathayRe··on Chinese developers fear the tech war will cost them access to GitHub
It depends on its strategic interest. ARM, AMD all have JV.

>Most industries are free and clear and don’t require JVs.

That is true only on paper. In reality they would still want a JV or some form of partnership. From Food Production, Restaurant Chains, to other part of the industries. If China wasn't desperate for Pork, ( Due to all sort of Pork disease ) they would not have allowed Danish Crown to operate independently after both have negotiate for years. You can try to register, but without some form of JV and somehow doing the "relationship" work for you. Nothing will get done.

CathayRe··on Chinese developers fear the tech war will cost them access to GitHub
China has well passed the time for its Developing Countries Status and everything it promised to WTO. And that is everything that was "unfair".
CathayRe··on Huawei Facts: An open letter to the US media
I don't think Huawei understands it, or they do but trying not to show. The West dont have problem with Huawei, the west have problems with CCP. And there isn't a single International Chinese company that doesn't have some form of Guanxi with CCP.
CathayRe··on Huawei Facts: An open letter to the US media
Which is one reason why few Chinese actually speak of anything negative on the topic. And sometimes it is hard to know if they have set up online discussion forum as honeypot.

One reason why Tencent investment on Reddit became such as issue.

CathayRe··on Huawei Trolls U.S. on Spy Claims with a Jab at Snowden
Nice, Huawei Finally pointed this out, so the next step is hopefully somebody pointing out the difference.

There will never be a Snowden in China. You can guarantee their life, or their love one's life will be held hostage.

So not only does the "West" ( So to speak ) has a system in place protecting these people, they also have a system to vote them out and elect a new form of government should the ultimate worst come to play.

What can you do with the CCP?

CathayRe··on China Unveils Plan to Tie Hong Kong, Macau Closer to Mainland
>So I don’t think you’d get much pushback from actual drivers.

At this rate, they might as well force all the people in HK to Speak Mandarin, Write in Simplified Chinese. Or get rid of them all together if they don't comply. Oh there is a word for it, Genocide.

CathayRe··on U.S. Accuses Huawei of Stealing Trade Secrets, Defrauding Banks
>I find your logic so absurd

It is funny you challenge me on logic and yet none of my reply intends or implies, their only option is to steal.

CathayRe··on U.S. Accuses Huawei of Stealing Trade Secrets, Defrauding Banks
And yet China is making a big deal about it, saying they are unfairly treated, No Chinese should ever be extradited. US and Western Nation coming to harm again.

If that is how the act when they are considering themselves the underdog or developing countries, imagine what they will do when they are full evolved.

Note: Of course US and many other countries aren't Sane either. But the tone used by the Chinese have never been so strong. It is as if they were back to Tsing Dynasty.

CathayRe··on U.S. Accuses Huawei of Stealing Trade Secrets, Defrauding Banks
>Fact check, Huawei is the only full 5G solution provider in the world; whereas no such company can be found in the US.

And..... they are also the only full 4G solution provider. None of the other telecom infrastructure companies have client side business. Arguably Samsung do, but that are relatively new. But that doesn't prove anything.

Credit where Credit's due Huawei has made fair amount of contribution towards 5G. But they don't own 5G like what the Chinese Media states, and they are not the number one in total 5G patents either as many Chinese Media likes to put it.

CathayRe··on A Fifth of China’s Homes Are Empty (2018)
>In 2012, I traveled for about 6 weeks in China. ........None of this made any sense

It really doesn't. That is until you visit there again in 3 - 5 years times. Everything is different. You start getting lots more people and spending money. Ok it is not like everyone becomes wealthy overnight. But from Zero to having a few people actually buying, shopping and eating in these malls is quite an achievement. And they move from bottom class Third Tier cities into upper class Third Tier etc...

I have seen it, it is a little hard to comprehend. I still don't know how everything was possible.

CathayRe··on Apple tells suppliers to produce 10% fewer new iPhones
You forgot those Apple listed prices are US only and never included any Sales Tax. In reality everywhere on the planet are paying $100 to $200 more on top of those prices. In the case of China has both Import, and Sales Tax. ( It works more like VAT though ), it adds up to around $300 on top of $999, closer to $1299.

Edit: Yes in case Apple is ridiculously expensive in many part of the world.

CathayRe··on Apple tells suppliers to produce 10% fewer new iPhones
Apple is American. They think American / the West is trying to humiliate China again. So they say they will stop buying Apple ( for now ). Relation to Apple being Huawei is a phone company ( Well to most consumer they are, when in fact they are more like a Telecom Infrastructure Giant ).
CathayRe··on Apple tells suppliers to produce 10% fewer new iPhones
I am surprised you haven't seen anything like it. It happened against Korea, Japan, and Taiwan although the magnitude of scale wasn't anywhere as large as Huawei.

And it is not like this is the first time Apple has been under attack anyway. If you are carrying out Business in China with any sort of Government involvement ( which is pretty much 90%+ ) you need to use a phone from Chinese brand to prove your loyalty.

CathayRe··on Xi Jinping says Taiwan “must and will be” reunited with China
I am not even sure you really meant it or you are trolling, but if you really believe what you wrote, I suggest you read up more about Hong Kong and Taiwan past and current status.
CathayRe··on Xi Jinping says Taiwan “must and will be” reunited with China
I don't see how a War could happen between two Nations that has Nukes. Do they agree on not to use Nuke before the war?

There won't ever be a World War 3, if there is the next one might very well be the end of human civilisation.

CathayRe··on Xi Jinping says Taiwan “must and will be” reunited with China
>theres less reasons for Taiwan to oppose reunification

What? Nothing you said in the previous sentence make any sense for reason of unification .

CathayRe··on Jack Ma: US wasted trillions on warfare instead of investing in infrastructure
1. Missing 2017 in the title.

2. Jack Ma is a Member of the CCP. US spending less on military has a direct benefits to China.

3. US infrastructure sucks. To the point it may be barely better than many developing countries. But it has very little, or if anything to do with billions invested in DOD.

CathayRe··on China Announces Punishments for Intellectual-Property Theft
There is no such thing as "laws", at least not in the same sense as any western understanding.

The first rule for any Chinese Judge is not some Right or Values, but absolute loyalty to the party.

>The west would be smart to wait to see how easy it really is to do business in China without giving over IP before giving China credit.

When will the lesson be learned!? When will the lesson be learned!? How many more dictators must be wooed, appeased - good God, given immense privileges - before we learn? You cannot reason with a CHINA when your head is in its mouth.

CathayRe··on Chip wars: China, America and silicon supremacy
I am not entirely sure how it would be peaceful considering the state of Taiwan against China.
CathayRe··on I’m Chinese, Google’s DragonFly Must Go On
I fully understand this and would have been Pro DragonFly a few years before. Now that I have learned more, I am against it. And this post is possibly a ploy from China.

Why should Google join China, give away its IP one way or another, let CCP exerts its force on more Western Companies, and further strengthen its power in China and the world?

Does anyone has the slightly idea what the hell is going on inside CCP's mind? I wish the WTO had a new terms for anyone joining, the nation must allow democratic election after joining WTO. There is no such thing as free market in a one party system.

You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else.

CathayRe··on Chip wars: China, America and silicon supremacy
I think we kinda need a new word for Chinese Chinese. Are they ethnic Chinese but actually American, as American Chinese, or are they Chinese Chinese?
CathayRe··on Chip wars: China, America and silicon supremacy
They cant, because that is exactly what US is waiting for. A proper excuses to start the fight with China.
CathayRe··on Chip wars: China, America and silicon supremacy
>It's accurate to say the capital from the deal likely helped AMD finalize, produce, and distribute Zen / Epyc.

It didn't, it just gave a pass / access to Alibaba and Tencent as well as other Government related project to use AMD CPU.

CathayRe··on Chip wars: China, America and silicon supremacy
Because you can't access the market without giving in / setting something up in China.

Which is the whole Trade War argument about Free market, access and IP. I am not sure how long before the West learn they can expect whatever International "Standard" and "Values" to ever work in China.
