Excellent suggestions thus far. I'd add volunteer organizations, which have the benefit of an existing agenda and activities which take some of the pressure off the social side of things. Getting to know someone while working alongside them is a more natural interaction than facing off with them and playing 20 questions.
Take action. Doesn't have to be big, in fact small is better - anything to get off the fence. Then you have some momentum to build on. Most people don't realize that not acting is in itself an action. You are choosing not to improve your situation, to stay right where you are. Some people worry that they will make the wrong decision, so they freeze. Better to make a wrong decision than no decision. If you make the wrong decision, you can course-correct and move on to the right decision. Life is risky, there is no way to be right 100% of the time. The key is to investigate to the best of your ability, then act, evaluate, correct, and repeat until you find yourself where you want to be. Good luck!
I'd only offer two insights. First, don't underestimate the power of personal contact. As great as technology is, getting to know, and showing interest in others on a personal level is powerful. People are a social species and will choose a friend over a stranger to deal with. Second, success (or failure) accumulates over time. As you build, you gain momentum. Many people change course too quickly, and as a result, never gain the momentum that makes things easier and more rewarding.
They gave you everything you asked for. I don't see a reason for you to be miffed, unless it is at yourself. If someone else managed to negotiate a better deal, that's not a transaction that you were involved in or should concern yourself with.
Perhaps the the founder is complaining about the guy because he isn't receiving the value from the sales guy that he feels he should based on what it cost him. If so, that will sort itself out, eventually.
I'd ask myself this question, "Would I be happy with the deal I have if I didn't know about the deal the sales guy has"? If the answer is yes, then just stay where you are and work to make good things happen.
