BtM909··on Tesla (VP Vehicle Engineering) says Cybertruck likely to not make it to Europe
Quote: Lars Moravy boils it down to two other things: “One, the truck market in the US is huge and two, European regulations call for a 3.2mm external radius on external projections. Unfortunately, it's impossible to make a 3.2mm radius on a 1.4mm sheet of stainless steel.”
BtM909··on Penn and Teller's Lab Scam [video] (1990)
At least you can play that fun game while downloading, by moving your mouse exactly against the last block in the progress bar and be delighted when a new progress block appears....
BtM909··on Penn and Teller's Lab Scam [video] (1990)
And that rule is?
BtM909··on California suspends Cruise's autonomous vehicle deployment
It's a bit of a stretch to just randomly drop some numbers... In the US in the last three Q's the marketshare of Tesla is 0,003868139%
BtM909··on Protomaps – A free and open source map of the world
At the bottom of the frontpage there's a remark on "revenue"

A 100% independent software project

Protomaps is a self-funded, solo developer project with a mission to make interactive cartography accessible to hobbyists and organizations of all sizes. An essential part of that mission is publishing open source software under commercial-friendly licenses.

You can support my full-time work on Protomaps in a few ways: * Downloading the open source world basemap tileset with a support plan on GitHub Sponsors. * Paid development of open source features.

BtM909··on Rubber hose animation
I always wondered (and unfortunately the wiki-entry doesn't clarify it): is it called rubber hose animation because of how the limbs were drawn or the fact that the animation comes across as bouncy?
BtM909··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
They showed the animation. Maybe in case something went wrong, they didn't want to broadcast that?
BtM909··on Chandrayaan-3 Soft-landing [video]
And we have touchdown!
BtM909··on Be careful of the examples you use. They stick
I think this is also true for trivial / hypothetical examples. I used to work at a global company that would use 'acme' as an example domain, including for emails and such. Because when we started, the domain didn't exist so test emails would just disappear in void.

Until the domain was registered and is actively being used.

BtM909··on Shamir Secret Sharing
See previous discussion(s): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36941720
BtM909··on KernType – A Letter Spacing Game
How much fonts did you play?
BtM909··on Ask HN: Looking for a Firefox compatible extension for voice controlled actions
As an FYI: most Firefox also supports most Chrome Extensions, so it might help you to go through its store as well :)
BtM909··on Command Line One-Liners
1. What's up with that? Looks like testing bots, because most of the messages don't make sense at all.

2. They should mitigate these bots, because ultimately it will make the website annoying to visit.

BtM909··on Pomsky – A portable, modern regular expression language
If you solve a problem with RegEx, you now have two problems!
BtM909··on 717 Gigapixel Image of Rembrandt's Nightwatch
Why not link to the original?

BtM909··on Prince of Persia in JavaScript
Check out this overview: https://github.com/oklemenz/PrinceJS/raw/master/assets/web/m...
BtM909··on Launch HN: BlackOakTV (YC S21) – Netflix for black people
thanks for the suggestion. Will watch!
BtM909··on GitHub Copilot regurgitates valid secrets
Can you get these keys by searching via a search engine?
BtM909··on Show HN: Tara – A free Jira alternative, now with Gitlab
@iba99, what tool did you use to create (or how did you create) the promo video on the homepage?

I like the style :)

BtM909··on Show HN: I'm 15 and made a bedtime calculator with React JavaScript
If I can join the guessing game. It could also be that a 15 yr old was asked (or offered) to add this functionality for the mattress company and he's "showing" off here on HN
BtM909··on Pentagon officially releases UFO videos [video]
And here's the pilot of that encounter in an interview: Joe Rogan Experience #1361 - Cmdr. David Fravor & Jeremy Corbell (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eco2s3-0zsQ)
BtM909··on Roger Penrose – Is Mathematics Invented or Discovered? [video]
I read this book about it: https://www.amazon.com/God-Mathematician-Mario-Livio/dp/0743.... Won't spoil the answer, but was nice to go through the evolution of Mathematics.
BtM909··on [dead]
Can you elaborate how this is different to this: https://beebom.com/sign-in-with-apple-patent-infringement-an...?

Would that be another infringement or is it the same concept?

BtM909··on Ask HN: How to get Bill Gates's attention?
You could reach out to companies like https://lifeomic.com/ ? If they can't help directly, they might be able to steer you in the right direction?

Good luck

BtM909··on Masks4All: Wear a mask to stop the spread of Coronavirus (Jeremy Howard)
I still find it difficult to understand if homemade masks actually reduce, due to all the different messages out there. Even the links provided in the Google Docs (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HLrm0pqBN_5bdyysOeoOBX4p...) are more focusing on professional masks.

I even heard an "expert" saying on national TV that non-professional masks were worse, because the virus could actually stick to it :S

BtM909··on Show HN: Milkshake – Make Websites from a Phone
You've had a good opportunity with your short URI. Now it doesn't "pronounce" as Milkshake. If this makes sense, grab the domain, otherwise let me know
BtM909··on Vue 3.0 Updates [slides]
Does someone have the talk (if there's one) which used this deck as well?
BtM909··on Ask HN: What is your favorite YouTube channel for developers?
Although more for beginners: https://www.youtube.com/user/CodeBabes
BtM909··on Show HN: Search YouTube without stopping the video, and make your own playlists
Not everybody is in it for the (direct) money.
