BrouteMinou··on Zig – io_uring and Grand Central Dispatch std.Io implementations landed
Akctuyally, reading the code instead of a documentation is one of the nice part of Zig.

It is such a readable language that I found it easier learning the API than most languages.

Zig has this on its side. Reading the unit tests directly from the code give, most of the time, a good example too.

BrouteMinou··on Zig – io_uring and Grand Central Dispatch std.Io implementations landed
I feel like it's worthless to keep up with Zig until they reach 1.0.

That thing, right here, is probably going to be rewritten 5 times and what not.

If you are actively using Zig (for some reasons?), I guess it's a great news, but for the Grand Majority of the devs in here, it's like an announcement that it's raining in Kuldîga...

So m'yeah. I was following Zig for a while, but I just don't think I am going to see a 1.0 release in my lifetime.

BrouteMinou··on GPT-5.3-Codex being routed to GPT-5.2
The kind of "pay me premium, I am giving you non-premium" type of fraud?

It just proves that there is not much of an improvement if they can get away with, it isn't? But hey, I am sure that the benchmarks are all saying otherwise.

BrouteMinou··on Microsoft open-sources LiteBox, a security-focused library OS
I am with you on that. HN is becoming a "14 years old edgy mini-tech" Facebook.

"Microsoft bad, Linux good" kind of comments are all over the place. There is no more in depth discussions about projects anymore. Add the people linking their blogs only to sell you thier services for an imaginary problem, and you get HN 2026.

It's maybe the time to find another tech media. If you know one, I would be glad to know.

BrouteMinou··on Microsoft open-sources LiteBox, a security-focused library OS
The Windows filesystem isn't slow per se, it's a slowness caused by "a thousand cuts" type of problem.

BrouteMinou··on Microsoft open-sources LiteBox, a security-focused library OS
Microsoft US a massive corporation with so many people, business units, departments.

A comment like yours is just like saying: "I know a buggy open-source software, why would I trust that other open-source project? The open-source community burned all possible goodwill".

BrouteMinou··on The Codex app illustrates the shift left of IDEs and coding GUIs
I think he's a cook, watching people putting frozen "meals" in the microwave and telling himself: "hey! That's not cooking!".

And I totally agree with him. Throwing some kind of fallacy in the air for the show doesn't make your argument, or lack of, more convincing.

BrouteMinou··on Rust in the NetBSD Kernel, and other odd decisions
I laughed reading the comment above yours. I also laughed reading yours, you are so right on. Next, I am expecting someone telling that there is a javascript on github to automate that build process...

This is not what I was expecting computer science to become, 30 years ago...

BrouteMinou··on Linux From Scratch ends SysVinit support
What about Windows hate is so old and tiresome now?

I need my system to work!

BrouteMinou··on Hacking Moltbook
You are not crazy; that's the number one security issue with LLM. They can't, with certainty, differenciate a command from data.

Social, err... Clanker engineering!

BrouteMinou··on In praise of –dry-run
One of the kick-ass feature of PowerShell is you only need to add `[CmdletBinding(SupportsShouldProcess)] ` to have the `-whatIf` dry-run for your functions.

Quite handy.

BrouteMinou··on Peerweb: Decentralized website hosting via WebTorrent
Nice, I clicked on the first demo, and I got stuck at connecting with peers.

I like the idea though.

BrouteMinou··on Microsoft 365 now tracks you in real time?
I think the only outrageous people here are the paranoid and the slackers...

My manager has called me when I was doing a mid-day grocery and I just told him: "sorry for the noise, I am at the grocery store at the moment". This is absolutely no problem at all, he asked if I wanted to call back when I got home...

It's pretty much making a storm in a glass of water here.

That's karma farming by bitching the ebil Microsoft...

BrouteMinou··on Proton spam and the AI consent problem
I canceled my subscription, and deleted my account due to the nagging and promotional annoyances.

I've contacted the support, but they basically don't care.

There are not multiple ways to fight back against this behavior. I am now with mailfence until they start the same circus.

BrouteMinou··on GenAI, the snake eating its own tail
Funny enough, you think that irc is dead, like most people, and the spammers... but let me tell you a little secret here:
BrouteMinou··on Ask HN: COBOL devs, how are AI coding affecting your work?
with all those languages listed in this thread,it explains why I don't trust or use AI when I code.

That's basically all the languages that I am using...

For the AI fans in here, what languages are you using? Typescript only would be my guess?

BrouteMinou··on Show HN: Ayder – HTTP-native durable event log written in C (curl as client)
That's really interesting, I am even more eager to arrive at home to check that out.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

BrouteMinou··on I dumped Windows 11 for Linux, and you should too
Another of those? Can people install their OS without having to tell the whole planet about it?

I don't see articles about people installing Windows or Mac everyday like the people installing Linux.

Is it such an achievement to do? That make you proud enough to tell the world?

It's worse than vegetarian people at that point.

And what's the point? The whole thread is filled with "yeah yeah, I installed Linux too!" just like some kind of cult.

Look at you...

BrouteMinou··on Anthropic blocks third-party use of Claude Code subscriptions
All those people are on the drug they got on the cheap during the fun party nights.

They are, or soon will be, surprised that the price is going to increase, and they are the only losers in that great story of theirs...

BrouteMinou··on Everyone hates OneDrive, Microsofts cloud app that steals and deletes files
When I see comment saying that onedrive confusing, and that people are having problems with it, I always wonder if the "hacker" crowd is really the "hacker" type they want to portrait themselves, or just inexperienced computer users bitching on Microsoft for internet points.

OneDrive is an easy and well integrated cloud drive. The principle of having a cloud drive is not new anymore, and I believe people should get over the fact that, indeed, the files on the cloud drive is... In the cloud; colour me surprised!

BrouteMinou··on Show HN: One clean, developer-focused page for every Unicode symbol
Why do I get a spinning "waiting" on every page? That doesn't seem "clean" to me... That's supposed to be raw HTML with a search.

It's cluttered with how to put your HTML character in your HTML, while being supposedly focused for devs...

All that doesn't make sense to me.
