Bouncingsoul1··on Open source can't coordinate?
I'm not sure which point you are trying to make with the bikes. For road racing the UCI quite famously sets quite strict standards. For "normal" use, if you live within the US or EU will also have some standards (mostly conserning road saftey). Of course you may cherry pick some exceptions, but IMO this doesn't drive the point.

No, that is not what the parent said. "Check an verfiy" can come in diffrent forms and tastes eg. having some samples (not all) checked by another lab, asking for standards and inspection performed by 3rd parties, asking and checking for documentation...the hell how do you think anybody could work with suppliers?
Bouncingsoul1··on More Germans left without jobs this summer as economy contracts
"a lot" doesn't mean anything if not compared to something, there are 200.000 less youths doing ausbilundg compared to 10years ago and 500.000 less than when it was at its top ~1980. And it will decline if we keep pretending...

"sun comes up on the right and goes counterclockwise through the sky instead of coming up on the left and going clockwise as I have seen it do all my life, and that was pretty interesting." That got me too back then, it's funny how your orientation relies on the sun doing the "right" thing

Bouncingsoul1··on The B Lane Swimmer (2009)
I was a swimmer in my childhood/youth and changed to triathlon later and thus have some datapoints still pretty much anecdotal. Basically since swimming was my best discipline, I was always put in the A lane after some time tryouts. Arriving in a new club this meant displace some other ALaner and they were not that happy usually, so i cannot see this BLane pattern.
Bouncingsoul1··on Make a low-cost Bluetooth LE packet sniffer with Wireshark
Yes thats true, but even if I have access to the device firmware, which I usually do, so I can build an unecrpyted version and this usually leads to the problem not being reproducible or showing differently... Anyway I want to reproduce the problem as close to production fw as possible. So via our time/effort calculation, spending some money on a multichannel sniffer was surely worth it.
Bouncingsoul1··on Make a low-cost Bluetooth LE packet sniffer with Wireshark
No it is not, IMO. These devices are only ever usefull if you have unencrypted connections, with peripherals with static addresses. Add either random addresses or encryption and you won't have any success while debugging. So this tools are not usefull for 99% of peripherals you see around. These cheap tools can only operate on 1 frequency at a time. BLE Advertisments are done one 3 channels (37,38,39), you have to listen to all of them to get the init of the connection. With this cheap devices you have 66% you miss some parts of this and thus fail to follow the connection and encryption on the remaining 36 channel (BLE does dynamic channel hopping, the channel list is exchanged within the connection). Plus with only 1 channel, it will sooner or later fail to follow the connection and this is usually just before you could repro the issue at hand.

Believe me if you want to do anything serious you have to invest some money. Up to BLE 4.2 i would suggest https://fte.com/products/bpalowenergy.aspx which comes around 1000€. There is so no follow up for 5.0 (which more and more devices have now) so I have no suggestion there (unless you want to invest 10.000+++)

Respectfully, this is also not correct. "The EU has full jurisdiction within the EU, and zero without" like in software there are always corner cases, as with e.g. Norway or Liechtenstein. Also on some more specific stuff via bilateral agreements. Has nothing to do with this case, but still your statement is false

Bouncingsoul1··on The Overlords Finally Showed Up
sorry to say that the only thing I can agree on in this blogpost is "Any one of these topics represent a possible future of lifetime study. Many, because of the need to shorten the discussion, have been purposefully simplified to the point of being arguably misrepresentative." For example you are kind a implicating that christanity was responsible for the fall of rome, as the people started to reject ceasars as gods. This is kinda strange, I mean yeah this hypothesis exists but so do 210 others https://courses.washington.edu/rome250/gallery/ROME%20250/21... .You need better sources for such claims. Anyway IMO it is not strong anyway as Christanity and worldly rule made a good fit for the next 1300 years or so
Bouncingsoul1··on Life Is Short (2016)
I planned for this as well, 2 months before Covid happend, so a bit lucky. Anyway it works great and I don't want to go back. The thing I don't subscribe to is the "co-worker" part. you see if my child cannot attend daycare because she is sick, I cannot work full. we have an agreement at my work that in such cases we go into "50% or best effort"mode. I guess it depends on the child and maybe the job, but I cannot code/think/debug while a 4 year old wants to be entertained, also I don't want to sit her in front of a tv/mobile just to calm her down, so 50% it is
