Bouncingsoul1··on The Best Jobs Now Require You to Be a People Person
Yeah I also think I heard this song before.
Bouncingsoul1··on Apprentice.at – Apprenticeships, not internships
Well, I was confused by the domain since I acutally did my apprenticeship and study in Austria (the one with mountains, no kangooros here). Well here it looks different, apprenticeship includes working for a company and going to a public school finishing with a certified diploma. These offerings on apprentice.at doesn't look anything like this.
Bouncingsoul1··on Ask HN: How to apply agile to a team of 5-7 without annoying the talented?
Hi, I am currently ScrumMaster + Developer, we adopted "Scrum" as we needed it and the process took us more or less one year. So I try to give you some ideas from my point of view.

"A week is a sprint", I think it is to short because of the overhead you gain with Planning, Retro and Review.

"developer and designer achieve at least one goal by the end of Friday" I hardly believe tasks and/or stories can be exactly planned like this, a task with lasts exactly one week suited for the experience of the dev is hardly planable. Also a team commits to the Stories and Features not a single team member, be it a dev or designer

"The one responsible for this task is also appointed to update our weekly change log and schedule board. A single entity/manager comparing the planned schedule with actual development for 6 months is therefore discouraged" We had various ProductOwner in the beginning, it didn't work out, here I think the principle "Design is not a democracy" applies. Let one keep track of it.

"Stories should be prioritized and categorized by their importance and estimated development time" hardly possible because of dependencies. I know some Scrumdefenitions say that Tasks and Stories should be independent but in reality they just aren't.

One more tip, don't forget the review and retro and to put the outcome in the feedbackloop.

Well technically you are the center of the universe http://theastronomist.fieldofscience.com/2010/03/you-are-at-... . But since everybody is, nobody is special either
Bouncingsoul1··on I noticed some disturbing privacy defaults in Windows 10
And yet to do your tax online in Germany you'll have to use Elster which is Windows only. Telling them I'll sign my pdfs with SHA-256 didn't help... So back to cellulose data carriers
Bouncingsoul1··on Yanis Varoufakis' first interview since resigning
Here, me, i'll be the cheerleader. EU is great. Back in the days the next zoo was 20km but in another country, so we had to go through border control and afterwards exchange money. And this was a border you could pass, back then there was a great wall splitting Europe. Since then a lot has changed, I worked in Germany, Spain, Sweden, Italy and currently in Austria without an issues. Europe and the EU is for me and a lot of my generation something we are used to and don't want to give up easily for some "odious, un-caring, self-centred politics"
Bouncingsoul1··on The Mac App Store Won’t Make You Rich
Throwing in some data here, according to stackoverflow Mac is en pair with Linux, but both still behind windows. Anyway seeing the "normal" desktop marketshare on desktop, both Mac and Linux are way more common in the developers world. http://stackoverflow.com/research/developer-survey-2015
Bouncingsoul1··on Only 4% of Languages Are Used Online
Is the context "digital" really important here, I hardly believe that publication overall, analog and digital, happens in more than 300 languages, or are there books, newspapers, magazines, roadsigns in 6000+ languages?
Bouncingsoul1··on Death of a Programmer, Life of a Farmer
What you are and what you do are 2 diffrent things.Programmer is a profession not a lifestyle. I was this Outdoor Guy, I did skiing instructor in the winter and mountainbike guide in the sommer. Later on I was this Soundtec Guy, you know doing shows in diffrent towns every night. My mistake and why I failed at both in the end was because I thought this would be my life while it only was my job. And like every job there are pros and cons and when times where getting harder I failed because I couldn't think of it as my only my job but my life. We tend to romanticize our jobs, which is I think is the basic problem here.
Bouncingsoul1··on The days are long but the decades are short
I am 31, I just have 1 advice to share. Be patient, your time will come and you've got more time than you think you have.
Bouncingsoul1··on We Can’t Let John Deere Destroy the Idea of Ownership
I wonder what we would found if we got a look into the source of these systems. As far as I know BMW's software heavily depends on Free/Open Source Software and for the other'S since we are in the embeded enviroment I could imagine the same. Would make my day if these companies would suddenly get the tables turned and instead of Copyright it would be a Copyleft issue.
Bouncingsoul1··on x*sin(y)
Works perfectly in Firefox 36.0.1 on Ubuntu
Bouncingsoul1··on Solarpunks
Hmm I still mix punkrockshows every now and then, "punk" as I see it is about "moving fast and break things" and is not really calm. But well you can define "punk" as you want and if the want to use it this way so be it.
Bouncingsoul1··on Programmers: Before you turn 40, get a plan B (2009)
I don't want to go into managment or consulting, I love being a developer. There is just this misconception that companies think it is a reward for you to put you there. "Hey this guy is really good at developing software, you know what we should do, stop him from writing code and sit him in meetings with stupid people until he becomes one himself"
Bouncingsoul1··on What if I don't find a job?
The first advice I would give you: Be patient. I spent a good time of my tweenties working as skiing instructor, soundtecnician, bartender, soccorista etc. Now I'm SWDev now and really can enjoy the benefits of a good paying job, but I couldn't if I wouldn't have lived out these punkrockdays. So I think it is totally ok to not have a complete lifeplane with 25. You'll get right some time, I promise.

Next you want a job, look for one. Check google for softwarecompanies in your area and just apply for a job. You can code? That's great, most companies, I know in my area are looking desperatly for developers. You can't code you still can get a job in Support,Testing, Documentation(well obviously not me, not a navtive speaker...). Don't be afraid of the requirments they put in their application forms, that's BS from HR. While we are at it, avoid HR and recruiting staff/companies, if you can get involved with one of the techguys ask them for a job. My first job in SW i got through a ScrumMaster of a company, I had to supply my CV 2years later when I was promoted and HR never realized I didn't hand them in.

I know being in a situation like yours is exhausting, I've been there, others have been there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbnFJVgBcw0

Keep on trying

I always wonder when I read about TMobile from a US-PointOfView. In Germany, TMobile is the "Verizon". I pretty much think they raise rates here in order to have money for competitive rates in new markets, but as soon as they achieve a certain marketshare they will raise their prices as well, happend in Austria recently.
