There are various countries with that kind of tax https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_copying_levy .Somehow Austria is missing on this List but I'am pretty sure they already have it ( http://futurezone.at/english/there-is-no-right-to-private-co... ).
Bouncingsoul1··on A Primer on Bézier Curves (2011)
Hmm looks like the Bezier equivalent to "the NURBS Book "http://www.springer.com/de/book/9783540615453. Understandable math, good drawings and pseudocode. Great for a medicore developer like me. Now I only need a book "From Bezier to Nurbs and back" and I'm all done.

One "if" here a "dirty bool flag" there and sooner or later your code is unmaintainable, I think OpenSource + Review prevents this kind of code.

Bouncingsoul1··on Stop-And-Seize Turns Police into Self-Funding Gangs
Who are "they", where are those people with these hidden agenda? The companies? Where some of us works and just try to do theie job. The politicans? Who cannot agree about anything but somehow figured out an hidden agenda where they secretly betray us. The Illuminati?

"I used to assume there were people in charge who knew what they were doing, who planned how things in society should work. As I got a little older I got more cynical, believing these people were trying to keep the rest of us dumb with shoddy schooling and mind-numbing entertainment, in the hopes they could get away with whatever it is powerful people are always trying to get away with.

Then as I got even older I realized that the people in charge are as clueless as the rest of us. Like our software, our society just kind of happened over the years and it’s always on the verge of coming tumbling down. Nobody really knows what they’re doing or what they’re talking about.

If you can get over the sheer terror of that thought, it’s actually quite liberating." Nick Bradbury

Bouncingsoul1··on Self-hosted alternatives to popular cloud services
I am way to lazy for Hosting and maintaining 5 different Services for myself. I have one RaspberryPi running OwnCloud for me and my friends. For the rest I use Syncthing(https://syncthing.net/) where I just sync /home overall devices.

For C# i see a different behaviour as in his example. double test = 0.1 + 0.2; //will be 0.30000000000000004 if you check in the Debugger Debug.Print(test.ToString());//will print 0.3
Bouncingsoul1··on What Valve got right and wrong with the Steam Machine
Direct3D and DirectX have nothing to do with .Net. The port of the CLR will only allow to run .Net(core) applications on OSX or Linux . And even there DirectX seems to be a blocking factor e.g. XAML/WPF which uses DirectX for drawing won't be ported/opensourced ,IMO for this very reason.

And of course also Icehockey,Football and a lot more. The german law is bit more specific about it (the exact amount of Joule is 7.5) http://www.dsb.de/media/PDF/Recht/Waffenrecht/Verwaltungsvor... e.g. the weapon/weaponlikethingy must have a muzzle. Also the Intention of usage is considered, so if you produce a hammer with the sole purpose to throw it at me, if may offend German law.
Bouncingsoul1··on Startup Playbook
"One important counterintuitive reason for this is that it’s easier to do something new and hard than something derivative and easy. People will want to help you and join you if it’s the former; they will not if it’s the latter." So Google didn't invent the Internet Search it was a derivative but not easy. Facebook didn't invent the SocialNetwork and actually made it easier than e.g. MySpace. Amazon was not the first online retailer but made it better, more reliable. WhatsApp? we knew how to send textmessages for a while but well they made it more convient. So a good idea must not be something unique new but something which makes the product better than the rest.
Bouncingsoul1··on Dive into Machine Learning with Jupyter and Scikit-Learn
If the author is here, thank you very much for providing this. I wanted to to look it into Jupyter and machine learning and this is probably the right way to start. I tried the course one Udacity for machine learning (Python, Scikit-Learn) but it not my way of learning things, since I like to fiddle around instead of going the straight way . If anyone is interested in an alternative check out the Udacity coure https://www.udacity.com/course/machine-learning-supervised-l... .

Bouncingsoul1··on Morocco poised to become a solar superpower with launch of desert mega-project
Is it a concept or is it an actual project(are the still talking or actually building). Because I've heard ideas like this before( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desertec ) which abandoned quickly. IMO Decentralization is the answer not MEGAProjects.
Bouncingsoul1··on $68B California bullet train project likely to overshoot budget and deadline
Relying on something you might have in the future seems like a bad idea to me. Infrasturcture needs constant improvements if you don'T do anything for years you might end up in a unresolveable mess.

Everything was better in the past even the future. That said I used services like MySpace or LastFM more than I use Facebook(which I don't use) or Spotify(which don't use), so I somehow understand where he is coming from, but not where he is heading, one single platform for everthing?More diversity? In theory HDMI-CEC could do this, well if all your devices support CEC. You would have got chances with your homecinema though. They even have an opensourcelib now http://libcec.pulse-eight.com/ .Saw this for the first time, haven't done any AV-Projects in the past years, but maybe I give it a try
Bouncingsoul1··on The Future
"Many people live throughout their life in campus environments similar to college campuses of the early 21st century. These campuses were seeded from the ruins of cities ravaged by crisis (Detroit), the transition of festivals to sustained existence (Burning Man), and around the headquarters of major companies. These mini Utopias on earth are small, high density villages with everything a person wants. A high density of friends, intelligent people, exciting activities, all in walkable or bikeable distances. Importantly, there is high mobility between these campuses (changing companies, new research projects), but little mobility from outside to inside." This one got me because this is not the future, this is the past, a lot tried it in the 60s and 70s, I tried it with the punks in the 90s, it didn't work, I still don't want it to work, this concept goes against the privacy feature these cultures want to provide so it fails in the end.

If you care I live in Berchtesgaden, which provides the unique feature of testing the Galileo System upfront http://www.gate-testbed.com/en/gate-overview.html . Anyway after learning the ESA even has a StartupIncubator here. Because of this,I decided to give it try. My first goal is to build a receiver based on the Raspberry Pi,no idea if i have a chance of doing this, I downloaded the specs and will give it a shoot and see where I get from there.

” When you want something else, you Alt-Tab, which no one does, or rely on some hacky workaround. “Now,” he says, “you can push things back... .... Things will change.”

I use Alt-Tab, it works on Linux Mint and Windows, I like hacky workarounds, I don't like when things change.

That said, 3D Touch is the best thing since Multitouch? Well except zooming nobody of my non-technical friends here ,could give me any usecase for using more than one finger. If anything with touch, I would need a keyboard that I actually can use.
