Bloating··on Sao Paulo: A city with no outdoor advertisements (2013)
Good art sucks. Interpret that however you want
Bloating··on New rule would give electric utilities incentives for investing in cybersecurity
electric utilities are the poster boys of cronyism... regulatory capture, guaranteed returns by socializing costs.
Bloating··on Pixel Tablet
Literally nobody needs this... until Apple "invents" it
Bloating··on US Supreme Court Justices get lavish gifts; Raise bar for bribery prosecutions
Why wasn't there a high profile report 5 years ago?

PR staff at the utilities will ensure the media tells you its inevitable
Bloating··on CA Electric Bills on Income
This is how it starts, then...

Once you start segmenting people into groups, then its all about passing the buck to the other group.

Bloating··on Screen time and the young brain – a contemporary moral panic? [pdf]
How do you expect the Investment Bankers to survive without addicting the kids to technology? Government intervention in the market works for the sugar industry, so I suggest all kids be required by government force to carry mobile tech "for their own safety" least we have another SVB "apocalypse"
Bloating··on There's something off about LED bulbs
LTF Sunlight 2 are the best light quality LEDs I've personally seen. The warm dim is incredibly clear amber https://ltftechnology.com

Ketra used to make a good smart bulb, like Hue but much better quality light. Bought out by Lutron, who disabled the open Restful API

RAB now makes a decent warm-dim, comparable to the Phillips warm-dim.

Bloating··on There's something off about LED bulbs
LTF: https://ltftechnology.com/sunlight2-dim-to-warm-3000k-to-180...

Ketra was good, smart bulbs like Hue with an open API, but far better than Hue. Lutron bought them, killed the API and and proceeded to require inferior and costly priority controls

Bloating··on Agatha Christie novels reworked to remove potentially offensive language
I'm guessing this is more about clickbait marketing to spur sales of books, and nothing to do with modern moral standards.

That said, it reminds me of a years ago controversy over some social conservative group selling "family friendly" edits of movies.

"Both sides" do this, hence, much like most headline controversy, why I believe its marketing ruse to sell more stuff

Bloating··on Time to end the speed limit in US airspace?
Taxes! Raise Taxes! But, just raise that other guys taxes

and, it needs to be cheaper

Bloating··on We need a new economics of water as a common good
Taxes! We need more taxes! But, tax that other guy
Bloating··on UK: Food inflation rises to 18.2% as it hits highest rate in over 45 years
For the same reason people claim to be underpaid. At some point, its not worth the investment.
Bloating··on UK: Food inflation rises to 18.2% as it hits highest rate in over 45 years
Its always someone else's fault, no matter what. I mean, the current laws of physics are just a conspiracy to benefit the rich. Congress just needs to pass a law making everything free without limit.

When you point your finger, there's three point back at you

Bloating··on Transitioning Away from Google Services
Its not that Apple maps isn't good enough, its that the world has not caught up with Apple's vision
Bloating··on If the government bails out SVB, expect an “Occupy Silicon Valley” movement
But that would require arm chair revolutionaries to get off their computers.
Bloating··on SVB Used Former McCarthy Staffers to Weaken Regulations, Lobby FDIC
Libertarians would prefer not to be subjected to the current banking system
Bloating··on SVB Used Former McCarthy Staffers to Weaken Regulations, Lobby FDIC
Competition does wonders to keep power in check, while improving value for consumers. Neither shareholders nor organized labor likes that feature.

Almost all monopolies are the result of government interference

And every instance of communism has devolved into authoritarianism.

I take capitalism, thank you

Bloating··on SVB Used Former McCarthy Staffers to Weaken Regulations, Lobby FDIC
Is separation of economics and politics a benefit of authoritarianism? How does that work?
Bloating··on SUVs emitted more carbon dioxide last year than most countries
Stop virtue signaling
Bloating··on SUVs emitted more carbon dioxide last year than most countries
This tells me you've NEVER driven an SUV and therefore have ZERO insight into the many reasons why one would chose to drive a SUV.

However, I do agree there are far more limited uses cases for an SUV in a dense city.

Bloating··on SUVs emitted more carbon dioxide last year than most countries
and by your logic, do we need the SUV police?
Bloating··on SUVs emitted more carbon dioxide last year than most countries
While I agree there are unnecessary SUVs, the practical use of SUV is not as rare as a city dweller realizes. What annoys me:

1) jacked up trucks with not a speck of dirt

2) people with a narrow view of society and the contexts of other people's lives, assuming everyone should live how they live.

Too many people have utopian views based on their narrow experiences. Not everything is or can be within walking distance. People have various abilities, but most all need to be mobile. Owning multiple, specialized cars for various occasions isn't necessarily the most economic or practical option. There aren't enough mom and pops and doctors to serve all needs within a reasonable distance.

Bloating··on How Californians are weaponizing environmental law to eliminate housing
That how its done, said the King. Been to plenty of stakeholder meetings where the outcome was pre-determined and the meeting was simply a rouse to demonstrate public involvement.

Survey asks: Rate the benefits of this plan

- Its good

- Its great

- Its awesome

99% of respondents said this plan is good or better

Bloating··on How Californians are weaponizing environmental law to eliminate housing
Business planning is also thrown by new laws
Bloating··on How Californians are weaponizing environmental law to eliminate housing
much like squeezing a balloon
Bloating··on How Californians are weaponizing environmental law to eliminate housing
While its fun to point out the hypocrisy and self-centered blinders of Californians, this is how most of the country behaves.

Raise taxes, just not mine (I'm not as rich as that other guy).

More affordable housing, but less sprawl. Don't tell me what to do with my property, but subsidize that last mile of internet.

Those evil (whatevers) need to pay their fair share, and give me free stuff
