Bilal_io··on HTML Tags Memory Test
I was about to say. Another thing is svg sub tags. I assumed they count since they're valid HTML.

I was able to recall 48.

The whole issue lies within this assumption. Microsoft does not want you to use a local account, and they make it extremely difficult to setup your Windows machine without one.

Bilal_io··on There is a 50-50 chance AI will get more intelligent than humans
The question is about "intelligence" and your argument is regarding memory and access to information.

Hey, I'd be curious to know what made you move from Laravel to Symphony.

I've not been exposed to any of the two and only dealt with PHP as part of messing with WordPress in the past.

I am not a lawyer, here my 2 cents:

Usage policy won't shield you since it's your server facilitating the download and distribution (allowing the user to download) part. Unlike a tool like youtube-dl which is self hosted and the responsibility falls on the user.

The thing that annoys me is that banks continue to allow payments even when the card numbers change. I am talking even when the payment method is a card and not bank info.

This happened to me with savethechildren.org before they allowed for easy cancelation. In the past you would have needed to call to cancel.

Bilal_io··on Show HN: A web debugger an ex-Cloudflare team has been working on for 4 years
I see in the Security page [0] that you filter out headers that you think are PII or tokens. And I see that you're willing to receive feedback via email. I don't think this approach is scalable, for the main reason that sometimes we use custom headers to pass tokens.

My suggestion is to have a setting that lists default headers you think should be obfuscated, and the user/team can remove and add to them as they like.

What I don't like about replay.io is that it requires you to use their custom browser.
Bilal_io··on Why We Hate Working for Big Companies (2018)
There are non, because they claim to be "communist" but they're not, just like many authoritarians claim "democracy".
Bilal_io··on Why We Hate Working for Big Companies (2018)
Did you just use authoritarian and communism in the same sentence to describe big companies?

Communism is where the means of production is owned by the people, and by that definition it's the opposite of authoritarian.

Bilal_io··on Ask HN: Is Hacker News under attack from spam bots?
I tried at first. It's a losing game against this number of spammy comments.

The temporary solution is to shadow ban the comments, the usernames seems to follow 2 naming schemas. Banning them completely will alert the attacker to change the naming schema, or to make it more random, which will make stopping them even more difficult.

Bilal_io··on Ask HN: Is Hacker News under attack from spam bots?
Are you lonely and want to do something? Flag those spam comments.

Yeah, I was surprised by the amount, it feels like an attack rather than spam.

I hope this didn't interrupt Dang from something more important.

Bilal_io··on Starting today, ISPs must display labels with price, speeds, and data caps
> What? You want to know the fees you ask for the fees. If you are not wise enough to ask maybe you deserve to be scammed by legitimate companies.

This is like walking into a grocery store and no seeing their prices, if you're interested in milk prices, you gotta ask an employee. If you're not wise enough to ask maybe you deserve to be charged extra.

Bilal_io··on Starbucks is raising prices almost every month now
Yeah Starbucks would be at least 10% if that. At $5 a day, 5 days a week, you get ~260 days * $5 = ~$1300.

And if your chosen drink from Starbucks is more expensive, and you order more than once a day, then double or even triple that figure.

Bilal_io··on Car is spying on you, leading to higher insurance rates
So credit bureaus have access to our credit history, compile and sell the reports without our consent and control. And now our cars share data so the same is done with our driving habits? The present is grim, and the future will be more so unless we step up and force lawmakers to pass laws to protect our privacy.

Bilal_io··on CIA: All Foreign Governments
First, the word Jihad in Arabic doesn't mean holy war. It generally means to struggle or put effort to improve. Someone could say "jahid nafsak" to mean "stop your desires".

Based on [0] which links to [1] there was an agricultural initiative called jihad of construction to improve and develop the country. It was later merged 2ith the ministry of agriculture.

Bilal_io··on Children of married parents do better, but America is moving the other way
Possibly you're not seeing the answers you're given as compelling because of your perspective. I can speak from an Islamic perspective and say that sexual relationships are considered immoral outside of marriage, so a man and woman cannot create a family and have kids unless they get married.

> She would say something funny, I would laugh and then she'd take note seriously.

In 1st and 2nd grade my teacher used to designate a student to watch other students whenever he needs to step outside the classroom. He always picked this one student who had an annoying bestie that would tap someone's shoulder or would call their name, and if they turned around they got reported.

Your story reminded me of this.
