Not all of them pass on to the other side but some are allowed to and come back. Search youtube for "atheist dies and sees Hell", for example.
BergAndCo··on Is America's jobs market nearing a cliff?
"H1B isn't take that much job"

When is YC going to add "This account is based in..." like X has?

I apply to embedded/controls engineer roles and get nothing back.

Besides like trello asana redmine or the millions of less-complicated competitors? You literally have developers work on their own modules directly from the spec or work directly with the product owner. You track their work by looking at their commits. You check their progress by looking at how the preview build / staging looks. No overhead of having developers flesh out an entire issue/story (plus sub-issues) and then move it column-to-column across the entire Kanban board. Tracking sub-issues is like counting half-pennies instead of rounding up.

The dead comment replying to this said "Start your own company," which I hear a lot. The problem is, the #1 thing YC looks for in a founder is they're wealthy enough to absorb risk. You don't take on massive risk from a position of financial insecurity.

Getting replaced by H1Bs after a year and then being out of work for six months (because ageism), four times in a row--that'll do it! Especially now since H1Bs replacing you makes you look like a job-hopper so your job search becomes more impossible every time.

So hire me then. I only apply to in-office jobs in NYC and only get an immediate No. No interviews. I'm as qualified as OP.

BergAndCo··on Atlas Shrugged (2024)
"The irony is with those who believe that thievery is wrong. She obviously didn't believe what she wrote because her actions reveal she believed in stealing your stolen property back from a thief, which is itself thievery."
BergAndCo··on Atlas Shrugged (2024)
"was getting" doesn't necessarily imply that she got away with it; "got" implies that.

BergAndCo··on 210 IQ Is Not Enough
High EQ correlates with manipulativeness and sociopathic behavior. So maybe their success can be chalked up to their willingness to sell out and kiss evil's ass.
BergAndCo··on 210 IQ Is Not Enough
Right, the reason a certain demographic can't get hired right now is because they aren't smart or hard-working.
BergAndCo··on I have recordings proving Coinbase knew about breach months before disclosure
Coinbase froze everyone's accounts (to prevent a selloff) while cashing in on insider knowledge that they were going to start supporting Bitcoin Cash. Then as soon as they sold off and the market dipped, they unfroze everyone's account. But instead of being in jail, they just keep getting away with it.
BergAndCo··on Unexpected things that are people
tl;dr "Unexpected things that share in the concept of corporate personhood when faced with a similar need for an accountability sink: Ships and some public land in the third world"
BergAndCo··on Texas Sheriff Used Flock ALPR in Abortion Investigation
tl;dr A wife used medicine to kill her fetus at 9 months, her husband reported a homicide, the wife retaliated trying to get him arrested by claiming he held her at gunpoint. If it's considered homicide in TX, then they're allowed to use ALPR; if it's not homicide, then using ALPR is COMPLETELY POINTLESS because they can't arrest her or charge her with anything.

So essentially the point of the article is to prove that not being able to murder your 9 month-old baby in TX means we're living in a Handmaid's Tale.

BergAndCo··on The physics of news, rumors, and opinions
Imagine thinking that a statistical model should address individuals' internal state. That's like considering thermodynamics bunk because it addresses aggregate behavior without accounting for that of individual particles.
BergAndCo··on Show HN: Geofenced chat communities anyone can create
I "hacked" my way in but seem to be the only drop/hub in the entire server. My feedback:

- The error message that anon users can't create hubs should happen when they click "Create", not after they go through the creation process

- 125 hectares is ridiculously small. Even in densely-populated areas, it takes 2500 hectares encompasses a neighborhood

- The chat window doesn't maximize, it's just a sidebar, and there's no emojis or GIFs or image embeds or links or markdown/richtext support or ability to edit/delete messages

- It would be cool if there was a bottom bar with a "global chat" / event log where you see people creating new hubs/drops

I've noticed so many bot accounts are angry at any website whose purpose is to quarantine Indian spammers, but if a single one of them had actually tried the website they would have commented "Hey you have the baseUrl wrong, the ToS "Accept" button makes a request to http://localhost:3008/signup and http://localhost:3008/api/auth/anonymous"
BergAndCo··on I may have found a way to spot U.S. at-sea strikes before they're announced
Yes, that makes total sense, that a narcoterror regime would entrust the security of their extremely valuable drug shipments to "worthless peasants" instead of professional gunmen from Tren de AGUA.
BergAndCo··on US startup Substrate announces chipmaking tool that it says will rival ASML
This news article is a week old, meaning this post was clearly upvote-brigaded by reputation management software to try to bury the post about Substrate being a fraud.
